Carneros Resort and Spa offers an intriguing mix of rustic charm and modern conveniences, featuring private terraces and outdoor baths that guests frequently commend. While the service generally receives positive remarks for attentiveness, some visitors have experienced lapses. The resort's cleanliness is widely acknowledged, despite rare complaints like an ant sighting.
Opinions on value are mixed, with certain guests questioning the cost due to issues such as pests. Nevertheless, the resort's amenities and prime location near wineries are often celebrated as highlights of a stay at Carneros.

Detailed Reviews
We loved everything about this resort!! We arrived early and were told our cottage was available early. The bellhop led us to our cottage and unloaded everything for us. Our cottage sycamore 1 was beautiful and a great location.
Service was good. A bit slow at times but every one was friendly. One morning as I was walking my dog, a gardener saw me carrying a bag of dog poop. He took it from me to dispose it for me! The staff a the hilltop restaurant were so friendly. We had dinner reservations at the farm but sadly my dog did not care for the live music. They kindly brought our dinner to our back yard. The food was excellent. We enjoyed dinner even more in our back yard
The gym was very nice. Loved the cold towels for post workout.
We booked a movie night and they brought a projector and screen to our back yard. Sadly we had a difficult time getting it to connect. Called for help but it took a while and we ended up giving up on the projector and just ordered a movie in our room on demand. They were quick to refund what we had paid for movie night and comped our on demand movie.
My husband thought it was a bit pricey. In the long run, we probably saved some money because everything was so nice we didn’t want to leave for wine tasting which is usually wine buying. You get what you paid for. We got a great relaxing vacation, beautiful cottage and great friendly service. We will definitely stay here again and cannot recommend them enough.

This is my 4th stay at Carneros and it did not disappoint. While there were a few things that could’ve been done differently, the hotel was FAST AND CARING to rectify the situations, providing excellent customer service. Specifically, the manager Nina, was fabulous at accommodating our large groups needs day and night, she is truly a gym! Additionally, the pool and spa manager was so nice! She would walk around the pool area, personally checking up on guests!
They provide free transportation within 5 miles of the resort, which is a game changer to get into Napa!
As always, they keep this resort meticulously polished and clean. You truly feel like you’re in another world. We stayed in 2 cottages and a house, and they were perfect. It’s an oasis!
We ate at Farm and Boon Fly Cafe, they were great! Additionally, the Market offers a nice selection of groceries. What’s best about this hotel is that you will not pay inflated prices for food and drink. Most entrees are under $40 and drinks are also reasonably priced. Within the market, you’ll find bottles of wine for $30~.
We can’t wait to celebrate next year!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
We stayed at this hotel five or six times now. We traveled this year to Dubai, Maui, Scottsdale, Seattle, Santa Barbara and a couple others. Staying in hotels like the Rosewood, the Fairmont, the Ritz Carlton, etc.
There’s no place quite like Carneros resort and spa. The people set the tone as you drive up and arrive to the resort. The management takes personal interest in the minute details of your stay whether that be relaxing by one of their amazing pools or arranging for excellent wine tours at different vineyards based on your palate.
Last year I had 20 of my friends and their spouses fly down and celebrated my 40th at this hotel. Still to this day my favorite vacation I’ve ever had. Remarkably, it was during a intense fire and the ash was so thick it was almost unhealthy to be outside. But in the midst of challenge the team rose to the occasion and found a way to make my event extremely special both inside and outside when applicable. I’m not sure I can thank them enough.
The hotel itself is quite serene. Our favorite places to relax would be to sit up at the adult pool and just look out over the vineyards after a wonderful breakfast at the hilltop restaurant. The green eggs and ham at the other breakfast location is a must every time we go.
Whether you’re staying in a small cottage or a couple bedroom home you feel warm and welcome. Our favorite room is suite number four and five right by the pool. The outdoor shower has a little window that allows you to look out over the vineyards through your corrugated steel private courtyard.
My wife and I enjoy getting up and walking the grounds in the morning as the morning fog lifts gently over the fields too.
I don’t often write reviews but I felt it was important to do so on this one. There is something so special about this hotel and the people that work there I just quite can’t put my finger on it but I will say it’s an absolute must if you’re considering it at all. It truly is my favorite place on earth.

This is literally the worst hotel I've stayed in the Napa area (and I've been to all of the nice places). Upon check-in, I found my room infested with ants. On the snack table, the walls, the bathroom/bathtub (probably many other areas as well).
I alerted the front-desk who said they would move me to another room while I was away for work for the day. When I returned, the front desk told me they decided not o move me to another room and that they "removed the ants".
So when I got to the room, there were still ants (on the counter, on the walls, in the bathtub, etc.). Not as many ants, admittedly, but too many ants for a place that costs as much as Carneros costs.
I called down again and asked to be moved to a room without ants and they said they'd check with someone and they'd reach out to me. 10-15 minutes or more pass and I never heard back. So i called again and they said they'd transfer me to someone (who didn't answer the phone).
So at that point I booked accommodations at another resort and called to tell them I was leaving. It was only at this point that offered to move me to a new room. The damage had been done at this point and they had the entirety of the day while I was away for work to do the right thing and move me to a room without ants.
I requested a refund as I never stayed a single night in the room and it was not inhabitable due to the ants. Their response was that they walked the room and only found a couple ants so they will not be issuing any sort of refund but they'd be willing to offer me a $100 resort credit and an upgraded room.
Obviously at this point I had already booked another room at a resort that does not have ants crawling all around the room so the offer was not only substandard, but pretty insulting to someone who would have been a repeat, loyal customer.
There are so many beautiful resorts in the Napa area who can manage to keep their rooms clean and have outstanding customer service. This is by far the worst and most incompetent staff I have encountered at any resort in the area. Not to mention, I have NEVER had an issue with insects in any of the other resorts. But if I had, I can guarantee they would have adjusted my room and made sure I had a good experience.
DO NOT STAY AT CARNEROS. There are so many other options at this price point who will give you a much better experience. I will never stay at this resort again.

Skip Carneros and go to Bardessono. And definitely don't bother with their monthly pool party. The pool party is also open to hotel guests, so almost all the lounge chairs were gone by the time the "party" started. And all you get in addition is some finger food and drinks (supposedly). None of the staff told us about the drinks, so we ended up paying additional for our own. They also discounted the rooms for pool party guests but only after it was past my cancellation period and my credit card company wouldn't let me adjust the reservation. Two stars because they did credit us back some of the cost of the drinks and the rooms are nice. But for the money, I would go to Bardessono instead.

Starting off Carneros grounds and property is beautiful. The landscape is beyond gorgeous. Truly just beautifully done.
Our room was also great. The rooms are individual cottages with their own porch, patio, fire pit, etc. we loved sitting outside by our fire pit in the evening and we used the fireplace in our room every night.
That being said, I believe management could use some work. Much of the staff was not trained in proper customer service.
Every time we had to call for something we needed in our room we had two call two times. We would call, wait 30-40 minutes and then call again before the items were brought. This happened 4 times.
Boon Fly Cafe was the worst customer service we received. We went in for coffee and donuts. Once we finally got seated we place our coffee and donut order. We received our items at a reasonable time frame but never saw our waiter again. No coffee refills or “can I get you anything else”. The family sitting next to us had to flag down their waiter three times before he would come to their table. I had to walk up to the host stand to get my bill and pay.
Farm was terrible as well. It is under construction so everything is make shift. You wait FOREVER for drinks. Menu is VERY limited. We would be sitting at our table waiting to order or for refills and all of the hostesses and waiters would be congregating at the front chatting with one another. Very insulting.
Not to mention, the first morning there we were woke up at 6:30am by the sounds of drills and construction equipment working by the pool.
For the price you pay to stay at the property we were very disappointed in the service we received. For the price I think there are probably much better options available.

Pros
The view from hilltop pool was beautiful
Spacious and comfortable room
Planting throughout the property and it's grounds was gorgeous
Comfortable sun loungers
Cons
My rooms patio area furniture was all covered with rain covers (it has been sunny for weeks). No one thought to remove and prep the outside area of my room before guest check in.
The wine dispenser in room was broken/ empty
Room service was barely edible and took over an hour for vegetarian pasta
Hilltop pool service was non existent instead you were advised to order from boon cafe and they'd bring it, that took 90mins. it was so bad all the people who ordered at the pool, me included were comped
Hot tub was filthy
Two guests at the adult pool had their own speakers blasting out their own music along with the music being played by the hotel. it was awful. when I asked that one form of music be played they said they'd ask the guests with the speakers but couldn't promise
Nothing extra in your room for Easter Sunday
(chocolate etc), no bottle of wine upon arrival, no welcome drink
For $1.5k a night I'd expect a lot better

I love this place. I've been multiple times, mostly because the spa is excellent, the service is great, and the food is very good.
Rooms:
The rooms are fully independent cottages, which are nice for a solo retreat or a couple's getaway. They would also work nicely for groups/families who want some time together in the common areas of the resort but also time in their own private spaces.
Spa:
The spa has a great outdoor relaxation deck which is nice even during the middle of winter. It has a lovely view and a nice fountain. That deck is my happy place! Spa also does Hydrafacial, which I think is the facial treatment that gives the most obvious results. Everyone who works at the spa is great. They are so welcoming and you leave feeling very pampered. The massage therapists are consistently some of the best in the business, worldwide, hands-down. These people take their work seriously, and you will leave completely blissed out.
Dining:
The Hilltop Restaurant is for guests only, and it has a nice breakfast buffet. The drinks are great, and the service is excellent. I love chatting with Celine (hope I spelled her name right), who is so kind and always goes above and beyond.
Farm Restaurant is great--really nice farm-to-table style dining with a lovely outdoor patio, complete with nice fireplaces. I was pleasantly surprised by the wine they paired with the tasting menu. It's open to the public.
Boon Fly has great donuts and solid breakfast/brunch; open to the public.
In-room dining is usually very good, but I felt that the last couple times I've been, it could have been a bit more inspired and flavorful. Still better than most hotels's in-room dining.
The Market has quick easy grab-and-go sandwiches and the like. It's overpriced because it's on resort, but the quality is good.
Overall:
I can't wait to go back for my annual solo retreat. This place is great and it's due primarily to the staff who go above and beyond to make you feel welcome in an unpretentious and sincere way. Thanks to all of you for taking such good care of me on my visit!

My wife and I were welcomed so warmly from everyone at Carneros. Right from the moment we walked through the door. The hospitality was absolutely amazing.
We got in early and enjoyed the absolute stunning view from the hillside pool while our room was prepared. The staff on the hillside are incredibly available while also careful to not break your sense of relaxation.
The rooms are a balance of true farmhouse and high tech cottages that compliment the entire property. Transporting you into the world they have created. The vegetables that our grown on site that you can pluck off the vine only add to the visceral experience.
Attending a wedding was a wonderful way to experience the venue. It transformed to such a vibe. The ceremony, the dinner and the dance floor set on a Napa hillside is something I truly recommend experiencing.
10/10 Would come back to this resort.

My wife and I booked our vacation after first learning of the Carneros Resort a few years earlier. We immensely enjoyed every minute of our stay, and promise to return whenever we can get back to Napa. Our room was excellent, the grounds and holiday decor were beautiful, and our dinner and wine pairing experience on Friday night was among the greatest dinners we have ever had in our life. The views from the Hilltop restaurant and pool area were spectacular, especially when several hot air balloons passed by in the morning. As for location, we were a short drive from countless Napa and Sonoma County wineries, which was made even easier through the resort's free area shuttle service. We can't say enough great things about the Carneros Resort!
