This review is for the Restaurant on the property. We had a group of about 30 people and we were celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. The staff did an awesome job. Our waitress split up the tickets for individual couples, where most places would say NO for a group this large. The service was excellent, the food was warm and delicious... More

Like others, we enjoyed the convenience of the "new" part of the hotel and stayed away from the "historic" part as we wanted a private bath and less noise. The room was nice and well appointed and clean. However, the heater was very noisy coming on and off all night and no way to control it, other than turning it... More

Not sure what to think after reading reviews of people staying in the historic part. Because the "new" part is tough. Writing from the room right now 11 pm and a band is blaring from the bar down the street. It feels like and old janky ski lodge, no snow around though. We are in room 206 and can hear... More

Like another poster, I would like to give this place higher reviews. Other than sleeping, I'd easily give this place five stars - cool, friendly staff, clean, central, etc. Unfortunately, the most important aspect about a hotel is probably sleeping. If the review were based solely on sleeping, I would give it a 'one' even though the bed was comfy,... More

Family stays here for reunions, it offers enough rooms and friendly service. The rooms are clean in the new additions, and while not new, completely adequate and large enough. AC worked fine during the heat wave. Note: no AC in old hotel and shared bath, no frig or microwave in any rooms but suites.

Good food, friendly staff - breakfast all day on weekends! Located in the middle of Murphys on Main Street and is a great place to take a break and get yer grub on! Check this place out! (PS they went through a makeover with Hotel Hell! Sure was worth it!

Make sure you check out the historic rooms upstairs that are staged. Stayed in newer rooms which are OK, but lacked charm of historic hotel, however they had AC!! Food in restaurant was very good. Dining outdoors is nice, weather permitting.

Stopping two days last week on a roadtrip with my sister. Nice place, sleepy town. The suite we stayed in was good, was cleaned well but probably had some animal visitors before us as both my sister and I got very allergic. Liked the place though.

Historic and charming this is a great place to have lunch. Outside, if the weather permits, is a great place for people watching. The food is great and you can park in their lot (street parking is usually limited in Murphys.

Thank you for the nice review! We do have a very nice outdoor patio which is open daily if the weather permits. All of our food is made with love. Our burgers come from locally raised Orvis Grass Fed Cattle. Most of our vegetables are also locally grown. Everything is made in house. I hope you can make it up... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Murphys Historic Hotel is the longest continually operated hotel in California. The Hotel was built in 1856 and we try to keep our nine historic rooms as close to that time period as possible. If you are to stay within the Historic Hotel you are without T.V., Phone, A/C, and of course a bathroom... but how often do you get to share a shower down the hall? You may bump into a ghost while enjoying a little piece of history. We also have twenty modern hotel rooms that have been improved more recently with new T.V.'s, Beds, A/C's, and Windows. We do have plans to remodel all bathrooms but Rome wasn't built in a day. We also have a full service restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner 365 days a year along with a full service saloon. The Murphys Historic Hotel is also within walking distance to over 20 different wine tasting rooms and our community park. While you are here please let me know how we are doing. We hope to see you soon!Sincerely, Brian ... more   less
