On our ladies' day out, we ended our outing here with a private tea ceremony (they have public teas on Sundays). What a marvelous place to be in: calming and refreshing. The lavenders were in full bloom and smelled wonderful. We did not stay overnight but would like to do so, maybe in the yurt, on a return trip. A... More

My husband and I try to go to Green Gulch at least once a year, it is a favorite place for us to get away from the pressures of the holidays or just to be in a quiet and serene environment. This time we went just before Christmas, right in the middle of a rainstorm. The rain did not affect... More

This zen center offers an opportunity for tranquility, reflection and peace a mere 30 minutes from san francisco. We took a day long meditation instruction from ed brown, which was delightful. We stayed at hope cottage, a mile walk and 500' above the center with spectacular views of the ocean. I was a little worried about the food, not being... More

i found this place b/c we wanted to visit Muir Woods (big trees!) spending the night nearby before flying out the next day. Then discovered they are: a Zen Monastery have a guest house and are suppliers of produce to Greens Restaurant (maybe the definitive veg. rest., in my opinion :), being part of the Zen Community that the Greens... The Center is in a wonderful location, the food is very good as most veggies are from their farm. We had a small guestroom with a double bed, unfortunately the bed was not comfortable, it sagged, though the bedsheets were clean, there were some stains on them. One shower for 12 rooms is not really adequate, the shared bathrooms (toilet... More

I know this isn't a typical "hotel" but they are charging hotel rates do I will review them accordingly. The accommodations are basic and the bathroom is shared with another room. There are no showers in the guesthouse so you have to walk to another building. There is wifi in the room which I took advantage of. The food is... More

Stayed 3 nights in the Guest House. Veggie/vegan meals were included in the price and were exceptional; gluten free also offered. Guest House was spotless. Two rooms share one bathroom (without shower). One shower room is provided for the entire Guest House which consists of 12 rooms. Free snacks and hot drinks provided in the Guest House kitchen. Property is... More

I have stayed at Green Gulch Farm on 3 different occasions, for several days each stay. The location is stunning, with eucalyptus trees surrounding this working organic farm. There are hiking trails, including a road up to Hope Cottage, a unique (and somewhat pricey) little cottage on a hillside overlooking Muir Beach. Hope Cottage is perhaps the most memorable place... Anyone is interested in studying Zen, please check Green Gulch Zen Center in Marin County. Its a nice short drive from Golden Gate Bridge. There is a nice flower garden and quite spacious vegetable farm tended by the Zen Practitioners. It is connected to the Tassajara Zen Center, where they make home made bread. On Sundays after the Morning Zazen,... More

Green Gulch Farm is a first and foremost a Zen Center. They do have a wonderful, non- luxurious Guest House, where you can stay for a very reasonable rate in a beautiful and peaceful setting. The rate also includes three very delicious vegetarian meals, often prepared with food grown on the organic farm the Center runs. You can walk to... More
