Nice updated hotel, clean quiet rooms. It’s in a central location, just short walk to center of town which has some great restaurants. Great staff. Very comfortable bed. They have cornhole and a fire pit outside. I just wish they had a pool. :). We’d stay there again.

Took longer than I wanted to reach my destination. Decided to find a real bed to sleep in before continuing on with my drive north. Came upon this hotel based on credit card recommendation. But I decided to call to compare pricing and as Shawn listed a price that was $10 less, I decided to pay with cash rather than my points. Admittedly, I did not expect much, nor did I care. But what a pleasant surprise: I opened the door and inhaled air that did not smell stale, I found the room clean, brightly lit, and inviting. See images of room.

We were driving to Glacier National Park in Montana from the the Bay Area and needed a clean, COVID safe place to stay overnight to break up the trip. I was able to talk to the manager and speak to him about how they clean the rooms which made me feel much safer. When we arrived, I was happy to see all patrons of the hotel were similarly concerned and everyone was wearing a face mask. The room was simple, but very clean. All the same, we double washed all doorknobs and water taps. We got two “Inn at Mount Shasta” caps which our boys still wear. When I saw my boys wearing the caps today, it reminded me to write this positive review. To finish the review, we got a good nights sleep in the comfortable beds. In the morning, the coffee pot in the room made a nice cup of coffee and we were off feeling rested and ready to finish our road trip.

I booked this motel based on the outstanding reviews. I understand that rural or unique areas may opt for standards in amenities that are different than other locations, but most guests welcome clean rooms with functioning utilities. I also look for clean air, non-smoking rooms, and that if smoking areas exist, that they be far from the facilities.
For work purposes, the internet meets basic requirements. I had online meetings which had some connection issues, but the meetings were done. Videos and images tend to load slowly.
The shower has plenty of hot water. The water in the area is good.
The room itself was not clean. It was quite dusty and grimy. The bedding was not comfortable. The next day, I saw the staff take out all the bedding and throw it on the ground outside (the laundry baskets overflow, so the many sheets, pillows, etc. ends up on the concrete sidewalk or asphalt parking). I wiped surfaces myself and found, for instance, that the bathroom sink was dirty. There were many layers of perfume smells, possibly covering up past smoke.
There is also a smoking and wood fire pit area beside the building. Usage varies based on guests, but it's a health concern, especially during a respiratory pandemic and a climate crisis. Smoke and burning wood emits chemicals harmful to the environment. Considering that California invests in solar panels and electric vehicles, removing wood burning should follow. Smoking areas should not be anywhere near the rooms or other people's vehicles.
I had a lower floor room and heard the upstairs room, although there were no parties or inappropriate noises late at night. The area is peaceful and the nature quite nice. I did not stay anywhere else in the area, so it's possible the other places are worse. Despite what others wrote, it's not a place I would go back to or recommend to others.

Hi LiveLobster, Thank you so much for your comments. Although we wish we had an opportunity to address your concerns in real-time, we sincerely appreciate your feedback and already have a couple ideas for ways we can improve based on it. We aren't accustomed to reviews like this...we're the top-rated hotel in town for a reason and we take it extremely seriously. On a more specific note, we've noticed that smoke is something you've referenced in almost all 26 of your TripAdvisor reviews, and just for your peace of mind, we wanted to clarify that our fire pit is not wood-burning. That's not something we would offer or encourage as stewards of our environment, and is also another reason we keep our guest areas smoke-free. There were, however, several prescribed burns taking place in the region that may have contributed to your perception. Once again, I'm genuinely sorry that we didn't live up to your expectations on this visit. Warmest regards, Dan

This is the first time we’ve stayed at the Inn at Mt Shasta, but we’ll definitely stay here again whenever we’re in the area for some fly fishing. The entire property appears to have been renovated fairly recently and there are some really nice touches. The interiors are spacious, clean, well-designed, and even stylish. The beds are comfortable and each bed had four different pillows to choose from. Yes, I’m picky about pillows. The coffee maker, fridge, and microwave came in handy for breakfast. Our room on the top floor was very quiet and we rarely even heard a neighbor. Outside, there’s a nice-looking (and popular) fire pit, and also some deck chairs and cornhole boards on the grassy grounds.
We booked for two nights but enjoyed ourselves so much that we extended a third night. The front desk managers were both very cheerful and helpful, promptly bringing us the new room keys for the extended night and extra coffee packages. Their communication before, during, and after the stay was excellent. This being Covid time, we appreciated the extra steps the staff took to protect everyone. Pro tip: Book directly on their website to get the best rate and also save the owners from paying a booking commission.

We were expecting more, given the price. It was an old motel (outside doors) that had been updated to be minimalist and modern. Bed was comfortable enough, Big flat screen TV. We opened second story window, rather than have AC blowing on us all night. I I noticed some mold in the tub caulking and when I took a bath (in a very shallow tub) I also noticed mold in the wall of the tub drain. Tissues and TP were rough. In-room coffee was typical crummy hotel single packs and powdered creamer. Room had a fridge and microwave that we didn’t use. No views to speak of, just the parking lot, street and houses on the back side, with a peak of Shasta through some trees in the back. We could hear other occupants in their rooms and walking the concrete hall to the rooms. Minimal contact check in and out, good for COVID protocol. Decent Bakery and coffee 1/2 block down the street and several restaurants within a short drive. Friendly staff at reception, talking through a glass check-in window. This had the best ratings in the area on Trip Advisor, so maybe it’s the best of a group of old lodgings in Shasta. Ok for a night. Nothing really bad to complain about, just not worth $200 for a night.

Hi calgal1702, Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I've reached out privately a few times and sincerely hope we have an opportunity to talk, but it sounds like we definitely didn't live up to your expectations this time. Our hotel is the newest in town by several decades, and fortunately most of the items you raised are fully within our control--they're already high on our priority list and we're grateful for your thoughts. I sincerely hope you'll come visit us again to enjoy a very different experience, particularly as we transition toward our typical offerings--including our fire pit, our outdoor activities and several of the other new elements we'll unveil for summer. But most importantly, we've now got our eyes peeled for precisely the items you raised. We really appreciate that. Warmest regards, Dan

We have stayed at this hotel several times and each time have had a good experience. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel is within walking distance to several restaurants and the location is quiet and relaxing. The staff is amazing and will go out of their way to take care of their guests. Special shout out to Aaron, the front desk clerk, who helped us get our car started after leaving the dome light on overnight.

My wife and I had a wonderful two night stay at the Inn at Mt. Shasta
the first week in April. It was a a pleasure from start to finish.
Easy to find as it is located on the main road leading into town from
the South, close enough to walk comfortably downtown.
The manager, Shawn, personally wrote down a number of suggestions for
places to see and eat. A nice touch, but for those who prefer, all communications
with the Inn's management can be done by text so as to limit contact.
The contemporary, updated look and feel of the property proved accurate as the rooms were recently remodeled and have stylish arches and architectural
details. The bed and pillows were wonderfully comfortable, and the amenities
included plenty of electrical outlets, a mini-fridge, microwave and hair dryer.
Carpets, furniture and appointments were all clean, new and fresh.
The room was very well insulated from outside sound and weather. But
by opening the window we got a pleasant breeze of fresh mountain air
wafting inside.
The property has a grassy front lawn area complete with adirondack chairs and
a corn hole game for those so inclined. Another nice outdoor feature is the
gas fueled fire pit on the side of the building. It provides a cozy, friendly
spot to wind down before turning in for the night.
While in the area we drove to a series of three waterfalls along the same stream,
about 20 minutes away. The middle falls were surprisingly majestic.
We also went the other direction later in the day to an Alpine lake. By the time
we got to the top and the lake it seemed we had driven up and back into December with all the ice and snow around us. Food in the area was also great. A local mexican restaurant provided us a nice meal and we were able to enjoy it sitting on their outdoor porch. The next night we picked up wonderful Thai treats downtown and devoured them in our room.
All in all the trip was a pleasure and the Inn at Mt. Shasta was a convenient, attractive base camp for exploring the area. We'll be back!

While driving back to Southern California from Washington state we chose Mount Shasta as our over night stop. Arrived late after driving most of the day, the gentleman in the office was very friendly. They only had a room with two queens available and he gave us the lower rate that they normally charge for the king room. The rooms are newly renovated and for a small mountain town it was perfect, clean and relatively spacious. Would highly recommend staying here if visiting or passing through Mount Shasta.

This hotel is awesome. The remodeled rooms are well designed with a hip and welcoming aesthetic. We stayed in a bunk room during the winter season; our kids loved the bunk beds and it made for a fun stay for our family of four. The beds and linens were very comfortable and the room was immaculately cleaned. The room was quiet and pleasant for our whole stay. The open-air hotel layout was ideal for traveling during covid, and the hotel was diligent about following health protocols. It’s in a convenient and ideal location, close to restaurants and the shops of downtown Shasta, and has easy access to I-5 and all the outdoor offerings in and around Mt Shasta. We look forward to returning to the Inn at Mt. Shasta this summer to enjoy the hotel and its access to summer activities!

Hi! Thank you so much for checking with us. We do indeed have dog-friendly rooms, with a $25 pet fee per night for up to two dogs. The best way to arrange a pet-friendly room would be to call us at 530-918-9292 and we'll take care of the reservation for you right there.
(Quick aside--our Hotel Manager, Shawn, also has Santa Cruz roots!)
You will have to call the hotel and ask as the two towns are somewhat close but not that close. And no rental cars and probably no Uber or Lyft so you’ll need to make arrangement w the hotel which is privately owned so possible depending on the day, the owner super nice.
Dunsmuir is cute town too :-)
