Room was clean and centrally located in Mt Shasta. Restaurant at the Shasta Inn was closed on Sunday night so we walked across the street to Casa Ramos for dinner- yummy!! Unfortunately the bed mattress was very firm (not to our liking). We were awakened several times by several trains going by with horns through the night- so be warned! We did not get a lot of sleep, unfortunately.
Room was very clean, staff was very friendly. Pro tip though, book direct with the hotel and not through an online service. Quite frankly was disappointed with the charges, when I arrived I was informed by the staff in a laughing manner that I should have booked direct to get the better price-- which, I did call them directly to extend my trip and was told by the person on the phone that I needed to call Orbitz to maintain the price, so when I did, I ended up being charged more. It was disappointing to get that advice from them when I had called and then told I did the silly thing and almost like, deserved my fees since I didn't book direct with them. Aside from the fees, I enjoyed my stay. Room was nice and cool in the heat, I received great advice in local hikes from the staff and I think they're doing their absolute best in this time to be accommodating and stay afloat. The location is super key for anyone who is a first time Mt.Shasta visitor, and overall the actual experience of staying here was positive.…
Shasta Inn is exactly why I support local businesses! My son and I had a long 36 hour drive, and stayed at Shasta Inn for one very comfortable night... the service was friendly, the location convenient, and the stay was lovely, but the real benefit came the following day after we left the hotel. Knowing we had a long drive, we left very early — about 6 am, and around mid-morning (at least 4 hours away) I received a call from the manager, Nichole. The staff saw I left behind a personal bag with an extremely valuable item. Nichole didn’t even hesitate — she immediately dropped what she was doing to get to the post office and overnight my possessions to me (terrible long lines and all). She even called a couple of times to double-verify the address, and check on the price to make sure it was acceptable. THIS is why local businesses are so great — the amazing, above-and-beyond customer service and “good neighbor” approach...so needed, especially in today’s environment. Thank you Shasta Inn!!…
This was an EPIC DEAL during the week at $80 but went up for the weekend to $120, which lessened the joy. Someone else here said it best when they commented, “if you lower your expectations it’s great.” And they’re totally right. We went to board Mt. Shasta and only needed two nights so we weren’t tethered to the hotel or committed to its quality. The only real downsides are it feels a bit dated, thin walls which didn’t bother us, and the rooms are super cold; there’s basically a thin sheet as a blanket, and though the wall heater works great (it really does) it’s a bummer to leave on all night due to its sound and face/eye/throat drying capability. There are extra blankets provided but you’ll be super happy if you bring your own. Also, they say there’s breakfast but it’s very basic: toast, 1 cereal, Yoplait yogurt, apples, coffee or tea, and a woman who will make you waffles on the waffle irons next to the cereal. There was a lot of hilarity about who got a waffle, who ordered one first etc. We laughed a bunch. I think the animal heads on the wall weren’t laughing because they’ve seen it all before. The upsides were the rooms were clean, a bit bigger than I thought, everyone was super nice, it’s close to the cute strip of town (good coffee shops/pastries/restaurants) close to the mountain (15 minutes-ish up) and the bar with an indoor fireplace was kid friendly. It satisfied our needs for this trip and we had a blast. Like I heard parents saying to their newbie boarders and skiers, attitude is everything.…
We will definitely use Todd's place when traveling north or south. Warm cozy clean room. Shower good and hot. Best treat was in comfy bar where a lovely local family serves yummy tex-mex meals. Stuffed mac&cheese with lobster and fresh salad topped with flavorful brisket. Free morning strawberry waffles. All is affordable!
