Very disappointing - much that could be great but this was a disaster. I thought it was a room in a cute stone building but it was a motel style unit with no windows other than the parking lot entrance side. I still would have been charmed by the cute furnishings and nice lawn area but the fact that there was a stair to the bathroom with no distinguishing markings meant that I actually tripped/fell twice until I put a towel on the stair to alert me that there is a difference in height. During the day it wasn't a problem but in the evening I did not see the step at all. It looked upon close inspection that there was a plastic tube (?) that may at one time have charged in light and helped show the hazard. Being forbidden to enter the main building after check in meant that I could only leave a letter asking for response and assured improvement for future occupants - no response up to now so I can only assume no improvement to the room. If you must stay here avoid room #10! Also, the no breakfast or cocktail hour should result in lower rates. All in all, the experience was not good and I would hate for anyone to trip as I did and have an injury. Coffee shop down the street was great though and I can thank the check in person for that suggestion.

We had stayed previously at SVI and enjoyed it for its quaintness, among other reasons. So, we booked again, this time taking our dog along. I called the day prior to arrival to confirm they were aware we would have a dog with us. The woman thanked me for the reminder. Much to our surprise upon arrival, the woman told us there would be an additional $25/night charge for the dog, and then rattled off a list of “don’t s”, including not allowing the dog to be unattended in kennel in the room. It would have been appreciated had this person revealed the extra charge and the “pet-friendly” rules when we spoke on the phone the day prior to our arrival. The lack of transparency by this SVI employee regarding their pet fee and policies means this will likely be the last time we stay at this establishment. Also, forget enjoying the lush green expanse on site...No dogs allowed. Dogs are only allowed on a tiny 3’x15’ island in the middle of the parking lot. So despite her telling me on the phone that we could enjoy a picnic on the large green area at the tables, in fact we were told the opposite at check-in: No dogs on grass.

This is a find for a budget minded light sleeper. A small one story old motel that has been nicely kept up. Quiet is the best feature of this place. Was a lot better than the larger low cost chain motels. If you don't need any bells or whistles and apreciate a clean and quiet place this could be for you. Managers take care of this motel and the Shasta Inn across the street so they do a sort of tap dance between the two and are very pleasant to deal with.

We stopped over in Mt. Shasta on our way to bring our son to University of Oregon from the Bay Area. Our stay at the Strawberry Valley Inn was a highlight of friendliness, comfort and cleanliness. Add to that a fantastically delicious meal across the street at the Shasta Inn's restaurant/bar and it was a very memorable part of our trip.
