If you are looking for a romantic and cozy getaway, we are the place. In the evening, you can capture the beautiful sunsets from your room in the Boathouse or on one of the 2 decks. The waterfront view is breathtaking. There is always an amazing array of wildlife including sea otters, birds, harbor seals and wild turkeys nearby. You can take a brisk walk on the local sandy beach or take a relaxing stroll through our little community. Almost everything in our community is within a short walking distance. We are located in a very peaceful and relaxing setting. Away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby cities. We are centrally located between Monterey and Santa Cruz, 1 block off Hwy 1.

Spent my evening watching major sunset from the comfort of the gigantic deep soaking tub in my room. Highlight were the sea otters, ospreys, turkeys, assorted birds wandering by like a Nat Geo documentary. Ridiculously comfortable bed, cute little themed rooms, but highlight is the rooms are right on top of the protected wetland of the Elkhorn Slough which is teeming with wildlife. The rooms are like Disneyland with cute themed beds that look like boats, "sails" hanging from the ceiling, super clean, great maid service, self serve everything so you have zero contact with anyone. I cant say enough. Its quirky and special.

We spent 3 nights in the "Sanctuary" room on the lower level of the "Boat House" of this lovely, well cared for hotel. Heather and her staff were well aware of Covid-era concerns. Check in was hands free. The room was spotless. Delicious breakfast was delivered each morning to a stand outside the door. The room had an expansive view of the egrets, cormorants and gulls playing on the Salinas River. To stay cozy, there was an electric fireplace. Our only complaints were sound proofing and lack of safety rails in the shower and toilet areas. The 3 upstairs rooms in the boat house have in-room jacuzzi tubs. The second night, we had a couple staying above us who, honest to God, filled and played in their tub 3 times in 18 hours! This clearly is a romantic hideaway for couples; but it's too bad that some people can't be more considerate of their neighbors during sleep hours. Be that as it may, the entire property was perfect for a little relief from staying at home. The proximity to the many creatures of the Salinas river and Elkhorn Slough, and the fantastic ciappino at Phil's Fish House will keep this inn high on our return list.

We came for the view and the relaxation and got that, BUT were disappointed by the lack of attention.
There seems to be an Inn Keeper, but (s)he seems to be working for a minimum wage (and shares that info on a note - encouraging tips) and is invisible. When we complained about the sewage smell on our room the message didn't get through or was ignored.
Breakfast was a pure minimum and is certainly not enough for all guests so be early..
Our room had a broken blind, which means that light came through early in the morning, we enjoyed the gas fireplace but had to turn off the electric heater because it was very noisy. We did, however, sleep very well and very much appreciated the views and landscape.

Moss Landing is one of our fun place that we visit often and Captain's Inn is our absolute favorite, we come here at least once a year for our anniversary. Over the years when the prices go up the breakfast has gotten less creative and just okay. We had reservations for our anniversary as the corona virus was starting and not heard from them so we thought there was not going to be a problem. The morning before cancellation deadline I called to make sure everything was fine I was told the main house was shutdown, where we had our room and moved out to the rooms with no shared entrance and breakfast was cancelled. I fully understand the change under these circumstances but I was never notified ,this is a bed and breakfast and when I asked why I didn't get notified the guy got rude and hung up, I called back and went to voicemail. I have contacted Captains Inn in 2 different ways and have not heard back. When we first found this place about 8 years ago I would have given it 5 stars now 1 and I doubt we will be going back.

They only do things by phone. You never see anybody. No place to check in or store luggage. The charge $30/hr to store luggage in the room. They don’t give you a key. If your cell phone runs out of juice, you can’t get your code to get it. Only way to heat the room is electric fireplace which makes it too bright to sleep. No showers only a large bathtub that takes 30 minutes for 3 inches of water. Etc. and then they say they do it this way for “your” convenience

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience with us. Your feedback is very important to us. We strive to provide a superior guest experience, and I am sorry yours did not meet expectations. We are always in 10 minutes radius - if needed in person. If you don't have enough juice in your cell phone - we have a RING doorbell or telephone located on the front porch - which can be used to reach us. We are sorry if we missed bringing this to your attention. We don't charge $30 to store luggage, however, if you fail to depart from your room at checkout time and leave at 1:00 PM - There would be a late checkout added to your reservation. All the rooms at our facility are equipped with Shower & to heat up the room you may use the Electric/Gas Heater located in each room. We are in dilemma that you didn't find that in your room as they are in-built in all the rooms. We definitely would like to know more about your stay - would you be able to email us at innkeeper@captainsinn.com? Hope to hear from you.

We stayed at the Captain's Inn for 3 nights in mid July. First, the unobstructed and private views of the slough are unsurpassed - incredibly rich bird activity, plus otters! We watched white pelicans herd feeding up the slough - it was amazing. The hotel is also a great jumping off point for many outdoor activities - whale watching, kayaking, biking, hiking, etc. And the restaurants nearby are good. Second, the rooms are spacious and cutely appointed and nautically themed. Third, the breakfasts are delicious and huge. Finally, the inn keeper really nice. She brought us extra coffee, gave us tips on food, and was always was asking if there was something she could do for us. We loved our stay here and look forward to returning soon.

Captain's Inn is a beautiful gem, very comfortable, amazing gardens, firepit, and marvelous sunset view from the property (and some of the rooms). Unfortunately we had a bit of a misunderstanding about our room when we arrived, but Sweetie, the Innkeeper took care of it right away (sorry if I haven't spelled her name correctly!). Sweetie is so efficient and very concerned for her guests' comfort. Despite not being able to offer a cooked breakfast due to Covid, they have done well by providing self-serve coffee and some grab-and-go breakfast items. There is also a communal refrigerator/freezer and microwave, which was very useful.
Over all we had a relaxing visit; Captain's Inn is an excellent base for exploring the local area (we kayaked Elkhorn Slough twice, and hiked the terrestrial reserve once; fantastic restaurants, too. Also a short drive to Monterey and Pacific Grove. We will definitely return!

My boyfriend and I stayed one night at the Sail Away room, it was so wonderful. After a few nights stay down the coast, it was very nice to have a contact-less check in, and I so appreciated the welcome binder with local info all layed out, very nicely curated....we went to a recommended restaurant, Lemongrass. (was super great also!). Everything about our stay was sweet. Starting with a sunset view spa bath, the room decor and cleanliness. The fireplace works great, and the heat; we only had it on for early evening and the place stayed warm the rest of our stay with both off, and a window then cracked. This might be the best room in the whole place....a perfect, private view also.

Thank you Captain's Inn! We will be back.

Fantastic place to getaway and still maintain the social distancing that we are all becoming to understand as a new normal. Owners have a great way of checking in without personal contact and work hard to make sure your stay is exactly what you are looking for. Phil's Seafood nearby are offering take out, so getting a great meal is still just a short walk away. Wonderful breakfast was delivered the next morning and enjoyed overlooking the beautiful scenery out the window. We wish this establishment much success in these tough times!

As one would imagine the rooms have a nautical theme. Very clean wit a view of the ocean and the inlet. I saw otters and seagulls constantly from the wall of windows. The shower has a window that looks out the wall of windows. Great peaceful place to unwind. I had the river view room.

Greetings and thank you for inquiring for a stay here at Captain's Inn! We consider our inn to be a quiet destination retreat located in the heart of nature. All rooms have an adjoining wall...however all of our boat house riverfront view rooms tend to have a quieter setting. We hope to see you soon! Warmest regards, ~ The Crew
