We had a deluxe King room - absolutely loved sitting on the balcony overlooking the bay and Morrow Rock. The room was very clean and the staff was exceptionally friendly. We would definitely stay here again!
This is a rather old school large motel overlooking the harbor at Morro Bay. The rooms are fairly large, although furnishings are somewhat old school. The motel feels like its main purpose and clientele relates to the harbor and the many seafood restaurants along the water. There is no breakfast per se, although they do offer small amounts of breakfast snacks, and a small drink along with the coffee in the room. This may be a vestige of COVID which they havent updated. They also have not updated room cleaning, which occurs only once every three nights. This practice, fairly unique to the US, is unfair as the room rates dont reflect the lack of service and the help is out of work. The WiFi runs at very low bandwidth. So, if you are planning on watching a movie or some other streaming content, plan on a lot of stops and starts. Most motels have gotten beyond this. It is priced competitively for the area, and especially the location. They do offer some deals for three night stays, which seems a bit long for this location unless you are really into local activity.…
Husband booked the room for my birthday, and splurged on the Deluxe King Bay View. It was too warm to use the fireplace, but it was great to sit on the balcony and look out at the bay with coffee or a cocktail. Bed was comfortable, but pillows were hard/lumpy. Room was clean and didn’t have too much noise from neighbors. Appreciated the small refrigerator. Bathroom hooks were too small, but the ledge in the bathroom could hold everything. Also loved that the bathroom was tiled. All the staff I interacted with were pleasant. The parking lot is very small; we were lucky to get a parking space.
We stayed here for a quick stop while driving down to LA. The hotel itself wasn’t bad and the lady that checked us in was very sweet. Very close to restaurants and shops. Unfortunately, we were awoken at 12:30 a.m. to a woman screaming in what seemed like she was in distress and needed help. I called the front desk to report it and later saw the police were called and a gentleman was arrested. I could here the police, the woman and gentleman talking very loudly outside our room for over an hour. I believe it was a domestic incident and it was one room away. The couple was very intoxicated!! Needless to say after hearing all of that, our family wasn’t able to go back to sleep. While I know this is an isolated incident and isn’t fault to the hotel we will never stay here again. I’m glad we woke up to report it because I’m not sure what would of happened to the lady. We were trying to get a good nights sleep and instead wasted over $300 one on night and weren’t even able to sleep.…
Needs updating and NEW BEDs. Perfect location and views. Beds and pillows are the most uncomfortable we used in a while. Bathrooms clean, but deteriorating. Drapes and sheers smelled like dirt. I understand no room service, but we had to scrub our table and chairs on balcony, filthy . Won’t go to that Morro hotel again. Vacation is for relaxing, not muscles aching and stress.
Our extra large room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Check in was easy, though they have an overly complicated grab and go breakfast menu that requires you to make your selection the night before. We opted out, but the friendly receptionist gave us a couple of bottles of OJ as we departed. Well located just one street off the main street of shops and restos. I appreciated that they did not tack on the unexplained additional traveler's fee that many other hotels required, and cancellation policies were quite fair.
If I ever find myself in Morro Bay again (which in itself is an amazing location), I will stay at the Blue Sail Inn. I booked directly on their website, the room that I requested was the one that I got - deluxe 2 queens with a view and a balcony. Totally worth the few extra $$. It was my daughter's birthday, which I mentioned in the booking, and they had decorated the key sleeve with birthday wishes. The amenities in the room were nice, comfy beds and pillows, soft towels, great shower, etc. They aren't doing daily housekeeping, which is fine - didn't bother us. The breakfast was ok, but more of a take with you snack for the day. Everyone we interacted with (even Miss Molly) was very nice and helpful.
Would definitely stay here again. Close to great shops and restaurants. Very friendly staff. Lisa checked us in and was very helpful. Many rooms have a view of Morro Bay. Easy parking. Spacious and clean rooms. All rooms are smoking and pet free. Enjoy!!
The older woman at the front desk in the morning was not friendly or helpful. I would not recommend this place. There seemed to be a distinct lack of communication between staff about whether early check in was possible. I called the afternoon before the day of arrival to ask and was kindly advised “no promises, but check back in the morning”. I spoke to another woman at the front desk in the morning who very perfunctorily said early check in was not available at all (implication was that it is not available as a policy) due to lack of staff. It wasn’t really what she said, but how she said it, and the fact that it was a lot different than the impression about early check-in availability left by the friendly person. The same woman was not helpful or friendly when I arrived around lunchtime and asked if I could use the hotel restroom (I did not ask about early check in again). When I walked up to their window, she seemed to be trying to shoo me away and I received a frosty “no public restrooms” before I could even explain I was hotel guest that night. It was the kind of condescending approach some people give to homeless people. I was clean and dressed in clean, good condition clothing, not that it should make a difference. She said no again when I explained I had reservation that night (which is totally fine), but she didn’t bother to mention there is a public restroom right around the corner. She also unnecessarily reminded me that “check in is at 3 PM” in a tone that said “you are not welcome here in until then.” The experience reminded me of encounters with racist people as a child. I would not stay here again if that same person is still part of the business. Haven’t had such a weird interaction with someone in the hotel industry (and never anything close at a place at this price point). That said, there was one younger woman on staff who was friendly and helpful on the phone and at check in. Overall, the place and nice view from the bay view room. None of the common spaces were open presumably due to COVID and the breakfast was a lackluster choice of juice or milk, and two of four food items: cheese stick, nutrigrain bar, applesauce and something else.…
Booked an ocean view room with a balcony and it was exactly as described. Very pleased with overall stay. The check in was handled at a walk up window to minimize contact and staff was very friendly. Parking was very conveniently located near the elevator entrance. The room was was clean and comfortable. The balcony was fantastic with wonderful view of Morro rock. The location is within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, etc, but yet so quiet and peaceful. Perfect place to stay in Morro bay
