I use Yelp and Tripadvisor extensively when picking out hotels and was excited to see this as one of the very few 4.5 star rated places in Morro Bay. BUT...keep in mind this is a one story MOTEL! PROS: -Clean room and clean bathroom, surprisingly for a motel! -Quiet location -3-5min walk to the waterfront's shops and restaurants. -Free Parking -One of the highest rated places in Morro Bay CONS: -It is a "Motel", cars and people will be right outside your door. -Saturday night rate of $220/night(inc taxes) is a ripoff for you get. I'm sure the weekday rate is much more reasonable. -Thin walls, as in any older motel. -If you're looking for a "romantic" getaway, this is not it. I would've given this a 5 Star if it was $150 or less.
We stayed one night here pre Covid. Although it’s been over a year, I wanted to give them a review as we had a great experience. Often when traveling and staying at similar small hotels, the rooms are old, tired, and dated. The room we stayed in was very clean and both the bathroom and the room had been recently updated. The location is wonderful - a short walk to all of the shops, bars, and restaurants. What stood out the most was the service from the owners. I was having issues with the TV (user error on my part lol), and she cheerfully and patiently helped me with it multiple times. Now that things are starting to open up, Morro Bay would be a good weekend trip for people living in LA. Hope this small hotel made it through Covid.
We stayed 3 nights in Morro Bay and we chose the Sundown Inn for it's location and price. The bed was comfortable and the room had all the amenities we needed: microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, TV, space to prepare our own breakfast & eat it at a small table with extra chairs. The shower had very attractive tiles and the room's ceiling had beautiful slats of wood. The inverter style air conditioning was effective & quiet. The couple owning and running the motel were very nice and attentive. All the rooms were on the ground floor so no stairs to climb or people above you. We easily walked to the waterfront and nearby park. The only thing "missing" would be some outdoor space to sit.
Although this motel is not located in the town of San Luis Obispo, it is located in one of the closest little beach towns near it, Morro Bay. The town itself is quaint, quiet, and has a beautiful waterfront with plenty to see and lots of food options. If you want to experience the coast and also visit SLO, this is a great spot to grab a room. The couple that runs it are very kind and offer exceptional service. It is very clean and well maintained and has a blast-from-the-past charm to it. The beds even have one of those built-in massagers where you drop a quarter for 15 minutes of vibration for tired muscles. What a hoot! It is 3 short blocks to the beach, the rooms are spacious and clean, and I was surprised to find the shower towels to be soft and plush, an added bonus. If you are looking for a tremendous value coupled with great service, some reminders of a bygone era of traveling, and a close proximity to the waterfront, you cannot go wrong with Sundown Inn.…
While motorcycling the coast of California, we stopped at the Sundown Inn. We were extremely pleased. The owners are on site, very attentive and so friendly. The place is clean as a pin. We loved it! We will be back!
