We stayed at La Serena Inn because normally they have a good breakfast but that was not the case. The oatmeal was very watery, all of the coffee containers were out of coffee, and the food selection was very limited. They had a waffle maker but no eggs or protein (bacon, sausage, ham), no fruit, and no yogurt. Some visitors who were not from the United States didn't know how to use the waffle machine and the attendant saw this and didn't do anything to help them.
The rooms were clean and equipped with everything that we needed. The beds were pretty worn out and soft but clean. I was also surprised that at exactly 11:00am there was a knock at one of our rooms, the Cleaner looked at her watch and asked if we were leaving, then we got a call at the other room asking if "we needed more time", in other words, are you checking out soon? I realize that checkout is 11:00am and if I stay here again, I will definitely ensure that I checkout prior to 11:00am as there is no grace period given. Funny, I didn't complain when we had to wait 20+ minutes to check in but they were quick to get us checked out.

could upgrade to a suite for just a few dollars more. The suite wasn't worth it. To the hotel's credit, it was an upgrade in their opinion, just not my preference. The mattress was memory foam (we don't like memory foam) and the bed had an elaborate headboard and footboard. We tend to sleep with our feet hanging off and the footboard would be in the way. The room we ended up with had an adjoining room. We could hear our neighbors who had a small child. They checked out, but we could hear our new neighbors. This room had a footboard, but it wasn't attached to the bed, rather, bolted to the floor. Future stays at this hotel will request a room that is not adjoining, not memory foam and no footboard. You can see the bay from a 2nd floor room, but the view is mostly of the other buildings between you and the bay. The breakfast consists of yogurt, cereal, hard boiled eggs, grocery store pastries, waffle batter (make your own) and some fruit, with tea, coffee and hot cocoa mix. We made reservations at Dorn's for a much better breakfast.
"We brought our pups Piper, an English Springer Spaniel, and the hotel was very welcoming to our pet. The elevator was convenient for walks. "Read full review
