A wonderful family operated hotel to stay and conveniently located near the beach, wharf and down town Monterey. The fact that they welcome dogs is definitely a plus plus. The room we stayed in was clean, comfortable and roomy with a fenced in patio. I would definitely stay there again.

This motel is very dated, with no attempt to modernize. Threadbare, cigarette-burned blankets, no real decor. Office hours posed at 9am to 10pm, however both mornings we were there office wasn't open by 9, which seems very late to open the front desk. No network TV channels available to watch news or GMA or Today show in the morning. Terrible...

I was looking for a deal for 1 night stay for next year's Red Bull moto GO in July. Used their website and got a room for $129 Satuday only. They called later to tell me the room was available for $149 per night and a 2 night minimum. All of that would have been reasonable if on their website,...

The place is dirty and rundown. The carpets are stained, there are marks on the wall, and the owners have obviously not spent much on maintenance for 20 years. When we complained about the unit, the owner gave us another room (same size) that was in a little better shape, but CHARGED US $50 MORE! The bed was old, lumpy...

I booked to stay here for 3 nights and ended up extending to 5. I was really comfortable here in a clean and spacious room with everything I needed. (I've read some of the other reviews and it's true that the cooking utensils are a little lacking but I also know that anything specific that is required would be provided...

Probably a pretty nice place 40 years ago. Everything in the room was worn - big cigarette burns on the carpet, busted lock on the door, leaking toilet. Though there was no coffee maker or coffee in our room, the coffee mugs provided looked as if they been bought at a garage sale, one from the Red Cross (was it...

Management response:

We most certainly want people to come to Monterey and enjoy themselves. Not feel bitter about where their staying. If people have a problem with their room, we would appreciate the opportunity to make it right. Some folk decide to critique everything including things that don't even pertain to them. We are currently trying to acquire coffee cups that say...

Not only were the rooms clean and quiet with cable TV, the hotel is well located. The place is owned and operated by a lovely family who are ready and willing to give advice about where to go and what to see. I felt very welcomed at the Fireside Lodge and would recommend it to anyone.

I had to go to a seminar at the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. The Fireside is the closest hotel to the school, and an incredible bargain! It's about a TWO MINUTE walk to the gate!!!! The room was very large, very comfy, with lots of thoughtful little touches... the plugs were actually where you could USE them with...

We decided spur of the moment to get out of the Central California heat and wanted to head up to the Monterey Coast. Knowing absolutely nothing about the area hotels/motels we came first to TripAdvisor. Most of the reviews were really good for Fireside but I still had a few questions. So I called ...got Steve on the phone and...

A friend I was visiting with was staying at the Fireside Lodge and therefore I had the pleasure of staying there myself. Owners Shin and her son Steven welcomed me with open arms and made sure we had everything we needed and then some. The room was clean and cozy. A great place to stay, located within walking distance of...
