It doesn't get better than Casa Munras!!

Based on the glowing recommendation from friends who recently stayed here, we decided to celebrate a milestone birthday at Casa Munras. Our 4-day stay was so wonderful, we immediately booked another get away with them.

The property is meticulously maintained with attention to detail and the location within walking distance to many of Monterey's favorite attractions.

Since our goal was to simply relax and enjoy all that Casa Munras had to offer, we enjoyed delicious evening meals at Esteban, their on-site restaurant. The outdoor patio was beautiful and very cozy with heaters to keep us warm. We were especially delighted with their new breakfast offerings at "Grab N Go" - an absolute perfect way to start one's day.

We so appreciated the outstanding staff who were always warm and welcoming. Thank you Henna, Rebecca and Zach and all the other awesome staff who made us feel so special. You are truly experts in hospitality.

We can't wait for our next stay with you.

Casa Munras is a very well maintained, classic motor inn from (I'm going to guess) the 1960s. For the second time we ate dinner at the Spanish restaurant in the main building. Tasty tapas menu though worth noting that it is noticeably overpriced, and I am comparing to my hometown prices in San Francisco.

My wife and I stayed in a second floor room in the center of the large complex, so we were well insulated from any noise from the surrounding neighborhood. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed the ensuite fireplace. In the morning, I fetched a coffee and sat on the balcony in the warm sun. Delightful. Casa Munras wasn't our first choice in Monterey, but as it was Thanksgiving week, there weren't many other options available. In the end, we were mostly pleasantly surprised.

The one downside has become a real pet peeve of mine. Though they call it a "hotel and spa", Casa Munras is really a classy motel, designed originally with plenty of parking so that guests could pull up right to the door of their rooms. The very layout of the place is designed around the automobile. So, after paying in advance for two rooms (our daughter and her boyfriend were traveling with us), I was hit with a daily parking fee of $17. Not a huge charge by itself these day (compared to the room at $190 and the dinner for four at $300), but to my mind an act of disrespect by management toward guests.

If you are in Manhattan for example, where onsite parking is rare and few travelers arrive by rental car, I understand a parking fee. However, for a motor inn with at least one parking space for every room, it is pushy to charge to park. It comes across as tacky and greedy. What's next: a laundry charge if we decide to use a towel when we shower?

I know this may seem like a petty complaint, but I see the proliferation of these BS charges and it makes me unhappy. If they need ways to increase revenue, why can't hotel managers just raise their room rates and include parking? But that will make the room rates less competitive in comparison to other lodging choices. So instead, they seem to prefer to nickel and dime guests like me and leave us feeling less than completely satisfied about our stay.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We were all disappointed to learn your most recent stay was not what you had expected. Regarding the parking fee, it has always been our practice to be transparent regarding the fees our guest pay, and we make sure that our guests are charged for only want they want and use. Some properties, including some of our neighboring hotels, use a "resort fee" to charge guests for amenities, whether they are used or not. Out of respect to our guests, we feel that it is unfair to charge for something that is not wanted or used, and as such, we offer optional amenities and services, such as parking, separately. The satisfaction of our guests is our highest priority, and we appreciate all your feedback and have shared it with our Management Team. We hope you allow us another opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Sincerely, Casa Munras Garden Hotel & Spa

Ideally located to visit both Monterey and Carmel By the Sea, key stops on a California OTR departing from San Francisco.
Clean and fairly large rooms, swimming pool and parking spaces available to customers (paid parking) very nice lobby and professional and very helpful staff. Valid price/quality ratio. Nearby a petrol pump and some open diners h24 great for any need. Recommended

Tons of other hotels near by, this place is a dump!!! When we walked in, we realized right away our room smells like a dog kennel. But it was late and we were tired from driving all day. TV, all outlets and ac/heat unit stopped working within 30 minutes of us checking in. Nobody called and bothered to tell us "hey hotel just lost electricity, do you want to move to another room since we are charging you close to $170 per night". Woke up to a freezing room, still no electricity, no hot water, nothing working. Still no phone call to say hey heads up this is what's happening, here is a partial refund, or credit or just "sorry this happened". NOTHING! What a nightmare. Even without electricity or hot water water, this place is dump. Parking? Almost $20 per car. 🫠 Mind you this is a **motel** with parking in front of the rooms and you will be paying almost $20 for that spot. You can't make this up. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Gross hotel and bad unprofessional staff, from cleaning crew to the front desk supervisor who was supposedly in a meeting but never got back to me. To start some of my pillows had very questionable white stains all over them. Next I was adjacent to a cleaning equipment storage hall, it sounded like a construction site with beginning on my wall beginning at 8am. This happened every single morning there, from around 8-11am. Then my friend who was one room over had a cleaning woman barge in on her 3 separate times without knocking, after she told her she didn't want to be disturbed. She put the padlock on the door after her first time entering otherwise the lady would have come completely come inside the other two times. This was over a couple hour span she kept trying to come inside her room the do not disturb sign up. When she tried to exit her room she had to move the cleaning cart as it was blocking her room. It was aggressive and weird. They also charge $17 per day for parking and a resort fee. There are so many other hotels in the area, please steer clear of this dump site unless you like man stains all over your pillows.

We stayed here for 3 nights and were somewhat disappointed. Check-in was fast & friendly, and there was ample free parking close to you room, however parking is very tight for larger vehicles. There is an upscale restaurant on the grounds, as well as a Denny’s, and coffee shop/bakery across the street.

The room (#160) itself was well laid out with a comfortable bed, flat screen TV with DVD player and desk. There is a safe, refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker. The bathroom was somewhat cramped and there is no shower per-se; it is a tub with shower, so if you have mobility issues, take this into consideration.

Our main complaint is that this is the first time we have stayed in a hotel without daily housekeeping. We do not travel with cleaning supplies, and living in a room for three days with no way to clean a bathroom, the area to make coffee etc. seems contrary to current issues with cleanliness and sanitizing. The trash cans in the room are full, and we have to call for clean towels and paper supplies.

Have prices for rooms been reduced with this important amenity taken away?

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is well located with plenty of bars and restaurants close-by. Yes, it is in the ‘style’ of a motel, but the hotel has some good facilities. As already covered here, parking within the hotel is extra. Read previous threads for management’s explanation on this one.
The suite was a good size, including a kitchen with a fridge and a coffee machine, a fire, a sofa bed and a decent size bathroom.
Unfortunately we did experience an issue which I did escalate regarding the noise in the room. For guests staying in the future in room 295, just be aware that it does sit above some sort of storage/catering/team area which does mean there can be noise at various times of the day/night. It is also one of the nearest rooms to the main road.
I accept I did not raise this for 2 nights, mainly because we were travelling with a lot of luggage and having taken it up the stairs and unpacked, we really could not face moving. My issue is that the noise issue is clearly known, but this room is still sold to the public, perhaps in the hope that there are enough people who will be ok with it. On vacation, relaxing with my family, that was not the case for me. I would much rather have been told the truth by management in advance of check-in and given options. Although I do understand the hotel was at best, half full. So, on this occasion, I will share on a forum what my experience was to help others in the future.
I feel strongly I should either not have been given this room, or been warned in advance.
The hotel is not cheap and this was my vacation time. I paid a lot of money for the noise! The First Lady I spoke with acted as if this was a complete surprise, but the second time I raised the matter with a different team member, I realised that I was not the first -person to raise this issue, and that’s disingenuous.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our California road trip.
Room was large and spacious with a large bathroom area and lots of parking outside the room.
The hotel is large so depending on where your room is you could be a way from the reception/restaurant area.

We saw the pool area which looked nice but the weather wasn’t quite warm enough for us to use.

The hotel location was good for easy access to restaurants, bars and the old fisherman’s wharf. We did though drive to Cannery Row as that was too far to walk.

Only downside for us was the lack of daily servicing . This was known to us in advance but with most restrictions now lifted - we seemed to be paying a premium for a high end hotel but without the additional daily housekeeping - which for me is a nice luxury when on holiday.
Hopefully this will return quickly .

We recently spent two nights at Casa Munras and were very disappointed by the disparity between the description and the reality of the accommodations. The room, while a good size, was shabby and in need of paint. Furniture was old and badly in need of replacement, and our room, advertised to be right by the pool, was...but a narrow sidewalk and high, ugly fence which translated to everyone walking to the pool passed directly by our one window and their was no view of the pool at all. We wouldn't have known it was there except for the noise. There weren't enough towels and though we asked the cleaner to please leave more - two bath towels and facecloths - we didn't get them.
On the plus side, the employees were friendly and helpful and we were impressed with the restaurant and their staff. The location was good. Walkable to restaurants, bars and the pier. Beds were comfortable. A bathtub in the bathroom along with the shower; that's always a plus for me after a long day.
We would try another hotel or "casa" next time.

We stayed here for two nights in late September. Compared to what we paid for other hotels during the same road trip it was not good value.

The rooms are comfortable and a good size. Unfortunately the hotel is located on a busy crossroads opposite two petrol stations and a Denny’s. You park outside your room so perhaps it would be better described as a motel. The restaurant is not open for breakfast and the Tapas meal we had on one of the evenings was again expensive and not particularly memorable.

Probably not a hotel we’d revisit.
