Before I could even park my car, the owner was screaming at me claiming I was laughing at his kid and threatening them. (I’m an African American woman). He proceeded to refuse service after explaining his child’s right to ride a bike in a business parking lot with lots of foot traffic. The rooms smelled of horrrible perfume and the patrons of the establishment were apologizing to me on behalf of an owner they believed to be discriminating against me. Unsafe for African American patrons.
I had reservations for two days and upon arriving I quickly booked a third day. The motel was super clean inside and out and also quiet. My room was large and basically had everything to make my stay comfortable. The family that managed the property were very nice and made me feel welcome. I think they had coffee in the office but no breakfast. Thats okay because you are a few blocks from downtown and there are endless possibilities for any type of food. I walked a few blocks into town each morning stopped at the Bagel Bakery for a large coffee and huge croissant ($5) and continued a few blocks to Fishermans Wharf where I had breakfast everyday. Unbelievable views. This was a very relaxing stay, I will return.
I've stayed here before and returned for a three night stay because the Pelican Inn is such a good value. Even though it's an older property, it's clean and housekeeping kept my room that way. The staff was very good, and except for the clock, which was fixed the next morning, everything I used worked fine. If you know Munras Avenue, then you know most of the motels there were built when American cars were big with bigger tail fins. The Pelican Inn hasn't gone through an extensive remodel, more of a here and there updating process. So the rooms may show a rough edge or two, but like I said it's clean. And the central location works well. I always get one of the rooms with a fireplace, if you know Monterey this is a nice feature even in the summertime. But what makes this place attractive is it's always on the low end of what motels in the area charge, so I'll probably be staying here again!…
The pictures looked a lot better than the place, I felt Bamboozled. Too much money for what you get. We stayed the night before in Silvang for the same amount of money and it was clean, comfy, quiet and with a pool! Updating is needed. I wish I would have researched more motels in the area. Very loud highway noise.
Great little motel. Cant beat it for the price! Location is good, can easily walk downtown and to the pier. The rooms are decorated nicely and the beds were fairly comfy. There is also a mall nearby which is convenient for Starbucks in the morning, mo breakfast at the motel.
