This place was expensive, so we thought it'd be a premium hotel. We were wrong. It gives the feeling of an old beach motel. Clearly the price we paid was mainly for location. The sleep quality was terrible. Something about the way Hotel Pacific is built made it the absolute *loudest* hotel we've ever stayed in. If I didn't get out of bed and check that the door was closed, I would have sworn it was wide open. I think it's a combination of cheap maybe hollow doors and the floor plan having no hallways, with the units encircling and opening directly to an outside courtyard. It makes it so any noise anywhere in the hotel echos and amplifies off the sound-reflective exterior stucco walls, reaches every one of the rooms, penetrates the cheap doors, and wakes you up in the night. There was a family playing some kind of board game in the courtyard around 9~10 pm. In reality they weren't being *that* loud, but we could hear *everything* while trying to get to sleep. We asked the front desk to nicely ask them to play more quietly, but nothing happened. It became humorous to my partner and I as we tried to sleep every night and were treated to the cacophony of every single noise made anywhere in the hotel. It was impressive, and we had to laugh at the absurdity of the price we paid for such a low quality building. Next, the pillows were dead---deflated and clumpy. God only knows how old they were. When we called the front desk and asked for two different pillows, they sent someone with only one. He said it was the only pillow they had left. Not only that, but this extra pillow was just as bad as the ones we already had. How ludicrous is it that a $450/night hotel hasn't replaced their pillows in probably a decade and has only one extra pillow for the entire establishment? There's also no air conditioning. Okay, the hotel is old. I could understand not retrofitting A/C if we were paying less than $300/night. But we honestly figured at such an immense price there would have been renovations to bring it up to standard. Again, the building itself is just low quality and not worth the price we paid. The front desk told us they'd bring us a fan... and then never showed up. Onto little annoyances, there was no towel rack in the bathroom, no wine glasses, and a matchbox with only two matches for us to try out the fireplace. With this, the pillows, the failure to bring us a fan after saying they would... there's not even good management to make up for the poor building quality. The location *was* excellent. In retrospect, that's clearly what we paid for, not the quality of the hotel. We were centrally located within walking distance of both Old Fisherman's Wharf and the aquarium. And believe me, we couldn't wait to walk out of the hotel every day. At first we were upset but got to the point where we just had to enjoy the location and laugh at how massively wrong we were in thinking almost half a grand a night would get us more than a motel. I stayed here last year and just now found the overlap between remembering and having the time to write the review. As you can see, I needed a good amount of time to detail all the issues.

Hotel's Favorite
My husband and I recently enjoyed a great 3-night stay at the unique and special Hotel Pacific in Downtown Monterey. We have stayed at this hotel several times over the past 30 years and always found it to be a a favorite destination in a great location. It has many qualities that we look for in a smaller, more relaxing hotel. We were glad to return to Hotel Pacific and have an outstanding experience once again. First of all, the staff is friendly, responsive, knowledgeable and very helpful. The Junior Suite king bed room layout is exceptional for a smaller hotel like this. It is spacious with a dining area that was also perfect for working comfortably on a laptop, a delightful gas fireplace, a spacious living room sitting area and a very nice bedroom area. The kitchen was stocked with nice dishes and wine glasses with a refrigerator and microwave, allowing us to bring in some local cuisine to enjoy. We appreciated the hardwood floors and the attractive tile surround on the fireplace. The TV in the room conveniently rotates to face both the living room and the bedroom as needed. There was also a nice-sized patio area which we enjoyed as well. The underground parking is easy and we were able to park close to the elevator and our room. We loved the more than ample Continental Breakfast each morning with eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, a variety of breads and bagels and more, served in their three spacious meeting rooms near the lobby. There were many nice outdoor seating areas on the property as well as a steaming jacuzzi area. We loved the charming and attractive tile pathways throughout the hotel. The hotel is located near Old Fisherman’s Wharf for whale watching and fishing excursions, great restaurants and cute shops, walking distance on the Rec Trail to Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Lower Presidio Historic Park, a variety of historic Monterey State Historic Park buildings to tour and Downtown Monterey with its Golden State Theatre, restaurants and pubs and additional State Park gardens, adobes and other buildings to enjoy. Hotel Pacific also rents bicycles that make it even easier to explore the area, without moving your car! It is also only a 10-minute drive to Carmel by the Sea and Pacific Grove and their beautiful beaches, shops and restaurants. Over the years, we have recommended this hotel to our friends who have always enjoyed the experience! Check it out next time you are planning to stay on the Monterey Peninsula.

Found a bag with syringes and drug paraphernalia upon check-in I immediately called the front desk and asked if a manger can come to look at something I found in my room that was disturbing. I was told no manager was on duty. I took the bag to the front desk and asked for the manager to call me when he was available. I stayed at this hotel 3 days, every time I went near the front desk I asked for the manager and was told he was not available. Upon check out I once again stated I wanted this issue addressed and was told the manager would call me at my home. Well after 35 days the manger Mr. Anderson called my home and made various excuses as to why it took him so long to respond. He further stated he was going to refund me one night and one car parking fee for one night. It should be noted I rented 4 rooms for over $6,000. They are very lucky a child did not find these syringes and no one got injured by their negligence. As of today no refund, maybe it will take another 35 days before I hear from him.

Very disappointed for the price. Much older hotel, room was not very nice (though we had a junior suite), hotel jacuzzi spa was broken. Would not recommend. It is close to restaurants and a whiskey bar we passed.

We have stayed here numerous times over the years. This hotel is starting to get dated.... the outdoor corridors need to be painted, the stairs are quite squeaky, and the walls on the exterior are in poor shape. Our stay did not start off very well. We always show up to hotels early and we understand that rooms will most likely not be ready until check-in time. The past two times (including this time) we had to wait 45 minutes past check-in to get the keys to our room. I really don't want to hear that "some of our housekeepers didn't show up to work today" -- excuses are NOT good when this has now happened two times in a row (we stayed in December and the same thing happened -- we had to wait 45+ minutes then, too). The room was decent and is a great size. One thing that gets to me are the small details -- the toilet seat was old, the pictures on the walls were not straight, the floor behind the toilet was dirty, and the furniture on the balcony had bird poop on them! I brought this up to the front desk and the lady stated that she would "let housekeeping know"..... We did have a very nice stay, but these small things need to be changed to bring this rating up

What a great time we had at Hotel Pacific! Our room was spotless, beds so comfortable, grounds beautiful and staff wonderful. Location is fantastic, close to wharf, cannery row, Monterey Aquarium. We having been going to Hotel Pacific with our children and now our grandchildren. But haven’t been there for awhile. I had read some reviews that were not good and was very surprised by them, but we didn’t experience any of them. Go and stay at Hotel Pacific it’s a great place to stay while visiting beautiful Monterey.

There’s not much that’s not dirty, broken, peeling, cracked or stained inside or out. First, I had high hopes for Hotel Pacific as I like a little quaintness and character in my accommodations. That’s what I wanted when I booked a room. Character is sometimes imperfect and that’s charming. People who don’t understand that should stay at a big chain hotel. Hotel Pacific is not charming. I discounted the other bad reviews thinking they must like new, cookie cutter hotels that seem more clean and streamlined or put together or they are mere complainers. (sorry, guys) Nope. They’re right. My mistake. Almost everything in our room (junior double suite) is dirty, stained, rusty, installed incorrectly or broken. I will highlight a few things… there’s simply not enough time for them all. The hair dryer both dirty and broken, the window with sooo many layers of paint it doesn’t close and lets in street dirt all over the sill, the shutters, the dusty vent in the bathroom and the over-spray from whatever genius painter they hired is on everything from recessed lights to door handles. But the worst was the soap scum and hair on the glass shower door seconded only by the toothpaste splatter on the wall paper and mirror frame. Ewwww. The fountain outside is broken. Hot tub? Broken. Landscape lighting outside our room? Broken. Bedside light? Broken. Microwave? Has the wrong turn table in it so it doesn’t work. Every surface, door, light switch, corner, shelf, etc is grungy. BRING YOUR OWN CLOROX WIPES. Faucet is loose. Wifi not fast enough to stream anything. There’s really nothing right anywhere at this hotel and it’s so sad because the people are nice, architecture interesting and the location is good. The breakfast is icky and served under florescent lights (and I don’t even really eat breakfast but think it’s still lacking and without care). Both dishwashers both days were sweating profusely while restocking the clean plates. Nice guys, working hard, but again: ick. When we checked in the front desk said, “oh, and we don’t have housekeeping but call us if you need anything “. Yep. House keeping, maintenance, everything is totally lacking. Even my teenager who just spent a month backpacking in a developing country was disappointed when she saw our room. The sheets are good and seem clean! The rest? NO.

This place is a dump. If you are on a lower floor be prepared to hear the people upstairs every time they move around. The king bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever experienced, it was terrible. The sofa bed was more like a spring mattress and had mildew all over it. The complementary breakfast was joke.

My family stayed her for 3 nights over spring break, we even added a day because the accommodations we so lovely! We had our dog, and our suite included a walk out for the dog to do his business and come right back in the room. One thing to keep in mind, they have moved the breakfast out of the lobby and to the meeting rooms, and it’s not very well marked. But the staff was very willing to guide anyone who needs assistance. Overall a beautiful outdoor hotel that is great for families and pets, close to everything in Monterey! We walked to restaurants downtown, Old Fisherman’s Wharf, beaches, the aquarium and Cannery Row.

After booking an ADA accessible room online, I specifically called the hotel to inquire about how ADA friendly the hotel was going to be for my 82 year old mother in-law. I was assured the room was accessible, elevator working and complimentary breakfast was in an area my MIL could get too. Upon arrival another customer was concerned the elevator was not functioning again and it needed attention. The first day, we had to request the elevator be reset 3 times, next day was 4 times and the last day there were no requests because the power was out. Breakfast was in a nicely decorated room directly off the Main Street but in my opinion was not ADA accessible, unless you could take your walker up a steep driveway meant for cars, down the sidewalk about 50 feet in a heavy rain, down a cement ramp which was wet and finally into a room with tile floors and no floor mats to dry your feet. This was disappointing as when I called, I was told breakfast area was ADA accessible! Bottom line, hotel may be in ADA compliance, but it is NOT ADA friendly. After speaking 4 times to management over a period of 9 days, they refunded my MIL $100 for her 3 night stay. My advice, avoid the headache of this hotel if ADA accessibility is important to you!
