    The Best of Monterey
We stayed here the week after Thanksgiving in an Ocean View room that was spectacular. The carpeted room itself is very well appointed with a comfortable king bed, down pillows, individual night stands, a work table and chair, 2 side chairs and a large table, 3 drawer dresser that doubled as a stand for the 48" flat screen TV. Custom lighting with recessed ceiling can-lights with dimmers, a table lamp, floor lamp and 2 bedside reading lamps. Great WiFi. The walls were tastefully decorated with local themed art. There was a mini frig under a shelf in the hallway holding a Keurig coffee pot, tea pot, mugs and glasses. The bathroom was spacious with more ceiling lights, his/hers sinks, tiled floors, granite counter, a wide mirrored closet with safe and tub/shower combination. The lav was in a separate room to itself. The private balcony patio overlooking the the ocean had 2 chairs, a table and flower pot with flowers. The views were incredible, wildlife everywhere looking across the bay including sea otters and sea lions feeding in the kelp be right out front. The patio was accessed by a sliding glass door with screen and 3 separate wooden louvered doors. Breakfast was delivered daily to the room consisting of your choice of fresh fruit, eggs, yogurt, a carafe of coffee or tea, pastries and juice. Incredibly good. There is a $24 daily parking fee for the ground level garage. Well worth it as we found everything we wanted to see within easy walking distance. The hotel has 2 hot tubs that we saw and outdoor reading, visiting areas. Fresh cookies in the lobby daily. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. This was our first time staying at MBI, but won't be the last.
Hi Jeff, Thank you for the wonderful review and 5-star rating. We're so glad our staff was very helpful and that you had a spectacular and incredible time staying with us and enjoyed the ocean views and all the amenities we have to offer. We look forward to welcoming you back during your next visit to Monterey. Sincerely, Monterey Bay Inn

Nondescript on the outside but nicer on the inside
After sifting through 20 accommodation choices in Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Carmel, I decided on the Monterey Bay Inn for its value for what you get.  All rooms have good-sized balconies (not just a Juliet style one), with all categories except for 1 (Cannery Row View) offering a water view.  Based on the location, the Cannery Row view does not offer much of a view unless you just need a room to sleep in.  I recommend spending a little extra and booking the harbor/ocean view room especially if you plan on getting takeout during most of your stay due to the current Covid situation.   Since we were celebrating a milestone birthday and I booked a month and a half in advance, my request for a top floor room was granted and we definitely did not mind eating takeout in the room with the view through the door. Our complimentary daily breakfast we chose via a hang tag, delivered to our room was perfect to enjoy on our balcony since we were very lucky with the warm sunny weather during our 2 night stay.  Because they were already delivering breakfasts directly to your room at your preferred time pre-Covid, they are one of the only places that are still able to offer breakfast during this challenging time.  Nothing fancy but being able to have warm (vs. prepacked) pastry in a basket and a saran wrap plate of freshly sliced fruit vs. just a banana or apple is something that is a luxury right now.   The location at the quieter end of Cannery Row enables you to choose walking either way for your morning walks, down Cannery pass the aquarium towards Pacific Grove or the opposite way towards the Old Wharf. Note: We were here on a Thursday and Friday night so was quiet but summer like crowds descended on Saturday. There is a daily parking fee and the spaces are quite narrow so would be a challenge if you have a large truck.
Hi Joyce, Thank you for the wonderful review and comments. We are so glad to hear you had a great time staying with us while celebrating a milestone birthday. We look forward to you welcoming you back again soon. Sincerely, Management of the Inns of Monterey

    Fabulous
From the minute we arrived we were amazed, the clerk Kyree greeted us and checked us in giving us a lovely room overlooking the bay. When we opened the door we were so pleased to find what can only be described as a 4 star hotel accommodation at a much less price. In every way it was wonderful, lovely furnishings, spotlessly clean, a huge bathroom and so much more. it was located in Cannery Row area, easy walking to Fisherman's Wharf and some great restaurants. Also so convenient to explore the surrounding area including Pebble Beach. Wished we did not have to leave. We highly recommend this hotel

This is our 4th stay here and we love it. I was going to write an in detail review about the hotel amenities etc, but realized many have already done so; instead I'll highlight the customer service and the two water view rooms. First of all, we have had occasion to interact with Stacey Lee, Director of Operations, and she is the upmost professional. She cares about our guest experience and personally has been involved in some of our inquiries and requests. The front desk and housekeeping staff are very efficient and attentive. We have not stayed in a Cannery Row room, so can not review those rooms. We initially stayed in a Harbor View room, and were upgraded to an Ocean View, so we wanted to primarily compare the two. The price difference between the Harbor and Ocean is not incredible. We usually opt for the Harbor View. However, since we had been treated to an upgrade to the Ocean View, I can say that if you want more privacy and ocean sound, spend the extra cash on this room! It's still so much more affordable and sometimes a better view than the upscale hotels down the street (know this from a previous stay at one of them). The Harbor View balconies are not out of view from pedestrians and beach walkers, whereas the (at least higher) Ocean View rooms are private. We really like both, and unless it is crazy busy and noisy on the road/beach, the Harbor View will certainly give us the ocean fix without too much distraction. Note: Rooms right next to the rooftop hot tub are a bit noisier due to folks going in and out of the locked door, and you can hear them while on your balcony. The parking is on-site under the inn (easy to get things in/out from your vehicle) and you are allowed to remain parked there for a few hours after check-out. This inn is more quiet than locations in the heart of Cannery Row and is located under 15 minutes walk time to either the Aquarium or Fisherman's Wharf. This is a quieter, more laid back, less pretentious option than some of the bigger hotels, but with the same great ocean views. We have only stayed on the 4th floor (per other reviewers' advice), so we did not experience overhead noise and was probably quite than lower floors. So you gotta ask yourself...do you want to spend BUCKS for fancy bells and whistles for your ocean side lodging or reasonable prices with awesome guest service at this smaller gem? If you want the perks and fancy lobby, but still want the same view, expect to pay almost double. We had a partial view at one of the big hotels. Yes, you could SEE the ocean, but it was not right next to the water and not private. We enjoyed the fancy restaurant and room service and grounds etc, but we were disappointed in the floor. Already booking our next stay!

Our room was big as was the bathroom. Breakfast was delivered to the room and it was adequate as well as tasty. The hotel is supposed to be non-smoking, but on several occasions our room got the smell of cannabis, which is naturally not nice when traveling with children. The level of skills and competence of the hotel reception should be slightly improved. Ok for one night, but in my experience I can't recommend it to families

First time on the WestCoast and this was 1 of 6 stops we made down PCH and the Coast. I wasn’t sure where to stay and went off other peoples reviews. I will say, overall the customer service was wonderful! Room was comfortable, large, and it was good for my husband and myself, and my adult children also had a similar room. We did face the Monterey bay and it’s located in the very beginning of Cannery Row. Not as nice as the other hotels who are within $100 per night price difference BUT, for the area and for what we needed it was fine.

I've stayed here before and this is the best place to stay in Cannery Row. Forget the large hotels nearby, I've stayed in those before. This hotel is so well thought out. We travel alot and this hotel ranks up to near #1 for me that has all the amenities that I want in a hotel. It's the little things that makes a huge difference. They make the room comfortable for 2 people, not just one. Two luggage ranks, double sinks, multiple choice of pillows, 2 nice plush sink bath mats (you hardly see these in hotels), a door stop that keeps the entry door open, tub nonslip mat and a tub mat, 2 very large trash cans (most cans you can only fit 3 Starbuck cups). The room has binoculars and a wine opener. The robes are very nice, so is the breakfast that they bring up to you. Can't say enough how beautiful the presentation is. The room has a refrigerator and a safe. The bed is so plush! We were on the 4th floor with a great view. The ice machine is closeby. They use name brand items like Kleenex, Dannon Yogurt, etc. No cheap branded stuff. The garage is covered. The hotel is walking distance to the wharf and Cannery area. They even have freshly baked cookies in the lobby with coffee. This is my go to hotel in Monterey. I just wished other hotels can learn something from this place that has the rooms so well thought out to make your stay so comfortable! It's just a well thought out hotel!!!! I will always come back to this hotel even if I have business in Salinas. It's not that far to drive from there.

Great location next to San Carlos beach! It was so nice and convenient to spend a day on the beach and took out a SUP on the bay. The room had a nice Oceanview. Hot tubs are on the 2nd and 4th floor. Parking is $25 per day. You can park in the city lot across the street between 9 am and 8 pm for $10 and move to street parking for free overnight. We didn't want to bother with moving the car back and forth.

This hotel & views were awesome but my complaint is with the housekeeping staff! The ladies had no curiosity and barged into our room twice with out knocking. The second time was during me and my wife getting intimate. I’d be cautious to stay!

I booked this place based on the reviews. However I was very disappointed that I booked this place. I should have stayed at Monterey Plaza Hotel. The price was not much different but the other one was a definitely much better choice and a full service resort. I want to write the reviews because I want to let people to have a better experience. We went to eat at the Monterey hotel for breakfast and lunch to enjoy the views and services.

Excellent!! Room was clean, spacious, and bed super comfy. Continental breakfast was...as most continental breakfasts are, just ok. The fruit was the best part, as it was sweet and fresh. Make sure to spend the extra for an ocean front room. Trust me it's worth it!!
