Have been to Monterey multiple times but wanted to try a new place. Based on the photos, reviews and prices, we ended up here. We booked online through a third party site, and upgraded to a corner ocean view room on arrival. I would give this place five stars alone just for customer service. Stacy checked us in and was professional, patient, kind, accommodating and friendly. All staff that we interacted with were professional and kind. I mentioned Stacy because I had the most interaction with her, but also because her customer service was impeccable! - I am one of those people who travel with my own cleaning wipes and spray. I did spray and wipe down the room, but only for my own peace of mind. The room smelled fresh and clean and it was clear that they were making every effort to follow the COVID-19 guidelines. We consistently saw people cleaning and wiping down the common areas and there was hand sanitizer available in the common areas and everyone wore a mask at all times. No staff entered our room at any time during the stay. There is a slip you can fill out the night prior to receive a continental breakfast (with your choice of items such as muffins, croissants, boiled eggs, yogurt, etc.) to be delivered at your designated time the next morning. They clearly state that they do not offer a full breakfast, which was fine because there are plenty of places within walking distant that do. - Due to the time of year and I'm sure COVID, foot traffic was minimal which meant that it was pretty quiet. The balcony door was open the entire time we were there and we slept with it open so we could fall asleep to the sound of the ocean waves. - Hotel and room were clean, safe and secure, room was beautiful, parking is convenient, views are amazing and customer service was great! Would definitely stay here again!

Hotel's Favorite
My husband and I stayed one night at the Monterey Bay Inn as part of our 2 week trip. Our room was clean and comfortable. Loved the balcony looking out over the bay. We heard sea lions barking, which we thought was wonderful. The next morning, we were allowed to leave our car in the parking garage of the hotel after check out. This was so helpful, as it allowed us to spend the morning exploring Cannery Row and the aquarium. Lots of places within walking distance. We enjoyed walking out on the pier, which is very close to the hotel. Saw lots of seals, sea lions and otters. The landscaping and park close to the hotel are beautiful. We hope to return for a longer stay.

We live about 70 miles from the area so try to cone out often, but had never stayed here, and I was very surprised how great this place is. By far significantly cheaper than the fancier hotels but this place is really on par with them. First of all, the ocean views are amazing, if you can’t afford it up front, ask about an upgrade when you get here, we did and for very little we got a great ocean view room! Very large room with a couch. If we were staying for several days I’d stay here, not in hustle and bustle but very walkable to both the aquarium and ward. They deliver continental breakfast that was delicious, great kick-starter to the day. I love this place and will definitely come back!

After sifting through 20 accommodation choices in Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Carmel, I decided on the Monterey Bay Inn for its value for what you get.  All rooms have good-sized balconies (not just a Juliet style one), with all categories except for 1 (Cannery Row View) offering a water view.  Based on the location, the Cannery Row view does not offer much of a view unless you just need a room to sleep in.  I recommend spending a little extra and booking the harbor/ocean view room especially if you plan on getting takeout during most of your stay due to the current Covid situation.   Since we were celebrating a milestone birthday and I booked a month and a half in advance, my request for a top floor room was granted and we definitely did not mind eating takeout in the room with the view through the door. Our complimentary daily breakfast we chose via a hang tag, delivered to our room was perfect to enjoy on our balcony since we were very lucky with the warm sunny weather during our 2 night stay.  Because they were already delivering breakfasts directly to your room at your preferred time pre-Covid, they are one of the only places that are still able to offer breakfast during this challenging time.  Nothing fancy but being able to have warm (vs. prepacked) pastry in a basket and a saran wrap plate of freshly sliced fruit vs. just a banana or apple is something that is a luxury right now.   The location at the quieter end of Cannery Row enables you to choose walking either way for your morning walks, down Cannery pass the aquarium towards Pacific Grove or the opposite way towards the Old Wharf. Note: We were here on a Thursday and Friday night so was quiet but summer like crowds descended on Saturday. There is a daily parking fee and the spaces are quite narrow so would be a challenge if you have a large truck.

Over the past several years, we have stayed here. Six times or more! You are paying for the location and balcony. They advertise that they are a non-smoking hotel but when I called to report cigarette as well as marijuana smoking they said no one answered the door! I even contacted corporate. I did not get any satisfaction from them either. At least once or twice a month I visit family in Monterey. Never again will I stay here. Add in the “resort fee” more or less $30 a night...I’ll stay elsewhere! The breakfast is equal to a m motel 6! One of the reasons we stayed there was also the restaurants within walking distance. Found a very nice family owned hotel that meets my needs!

Hi Ruth, Thank you for the review and comments, we will share this with our team. Our Front Desk Staff does their best to contact the other party to help resolve issues, such as this. Since we are a non-smoking hotel, if a guest decides to smoke, we try to encourage them to go to the park located outside of our hotel. We have signage in guest rooms, on balconies, and in our parking lot stating we are a non-smoking hotel. If a guest is identified smoking on property, there is a $250.00 smoking fee. We apologize for the issues you experienced. Also, our hotel does not have any resort fees. We appreciate the times you have stayed with us and we truly hope we have an opportunity to welcome you back again, so we may demonstrate our commitment to providing you with a more positive and comfortable stay. Sincerely, Management of the Inns of Monterey
