    ...The rooms we stayed in were nicely fitted out and spacious, and all the ingredients are there for it to be a nice hotel... Firstly, when we checked in after a long drive we found that the extra beds we had requested were not present, and one bed was not made up; we had interconnecting rooms as we were travelling with two children, and there was a door to a third interconnecting room, which we had not booked, so possibly had other guests in which did not lock allowing access into our room... What was most concerning however, was that the rooms we were allocated were in an annex which is essentially part of the same building as a public car park... There was free and unfettered access from this public car park into the corridor where our rooms were meaning anybody could just wander in and be in the corridor outside our bedroom and the one that children are staying in ... In fairness when we complained about this, the hotel switched us to the main hotel as they had availability... But if we were here in summer and they were fully booked, this would’ve been a major problem!... Although we had no complaints about the room we moved to, I would like to say that we then had a smooth stay at the Portola, but this wasn’t really the case... As we continue to have ongoing issues with responses to requests for services, including the room, not being cleaned or made up for three days until we made a fuss about it, which is not really how I intend to spend my holiday time...

    Booked this hotel because of convenience and decent reviews... We had extended our stay by one night (under a different reservation #) so we mentioned this when we checked in and they assured us that the 2 bookings were now combined and we could stay in the same room... Throughout the next few days we confirmed with the front desk (in person) 3 times to ensure that everything was set and we didn’t have to move rooms... On the day we were originally supposed to check out, the cleaning staff barged into our room 3 times trying to clean, even when we repeatedly told them we were staying an extra night... To be clear, this was not normal service of the room (since you have to request it and we had already done so in the morning)... Staff, and the lady cut me off and said “they are just trying to service the room...

    Room 365 was a horrible experience given a stay at a four-star hotel: There is no sound isolation between the room and the room next to it, and there are locked doors in between, but it is possible to hear every single sound and every single conversation from the other room. The room was cold, and the heating was not turned on when we arrived... The room 365 shouldn't be rented to people who are not traveling together with the room next door since there is absolutely no privacy...

    We weren’t given the room we booked 8 months in advance instead put in a room with 2 small beds, with a street level view of the road which had constant traffic throughout the night. Both staff on arrival and departure were incredibly rude and rather than be apologetic blamed me for booking through Expedia... So be careful you may not get the rooms you want...

    The hotel is very nice and in a great location I just feel we got the worst room on the premises... Vending machine was broken for water, front desk couldnt give out water even though we were paying $400 a night... Getting charged automatically for valet when we didnt have a car was a first for me as well...

By the third time, the cleaning guy barged in, realized we were there and banged the door on his way out, waking up my sleeping toddler whom had just fallen asleep for his nap...     ...Firstly, when we checked in after a long drive we found that the extra beds we had requested were not present, and one bed was not made up; we had interconnecting rooms as we were travelling with two children, and there was a door to a third interconnecting room, which we had not booked, so possibly had other guests in which did not lock allowing access into our room... In fairness when we complained about this, the hotel switched us to the main hotel as they had availability... As we continue to have ongoing issues with responses to requests for services, including the room, not being cleaned or made up for three days until we made a fuss about it, which is not really how I intend to spend my holiday time...

We walked up to Cannery Row which is an easy and scenic walk from the hotel but also check out Alvarado St as there were some very good bars and restaurants along the street... There are two wine tasting bars near the hotel, also a number of restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf... We had a hire car and self parking was $22 a night...

We stayed at this hotel for 3 years straight for our car club Christmas party and let me tell you, the service did not disappoint. We were greeted immediately by valet, check in was a breeze and room was very clean and comfortable. The view that was breathtaking. We will definitely be back next year.

This place is just the best. The location can't be beat, and the remodeled rooms are really nice. The staff is super friendly and helpful, yet not pushy, if you want to be left alone. Love being able to walk to great dining and cocktails on Alvarado and neighboring streets, as well as Fisherman's Wharf. Downtown and Old Monterey are so nice and clean, and great for walking around. The history walk is totally worth doing, lots of cool places with interesting past residents. Also, the Golden State Theater, a few steps away from the hotel, has some great shows.

My family and I have been coming to Portola hotel and spa for about 14 years. There hasn’t been a single time I’ve wanted to leave lol we enjoy every minute there. Winter time always has the ice skating ring which is a really fun for the family. It’s a Gem of a place to stay I highly recommend it.

expensive for true value, stayed in Harbor view at $500+ a night. mattress topper was perished. not enough staff, waited 45 minutes to be sat for breakfast, cappuccino and latte not included in the b'fast package yet endless mimosa no problem. Bar staff start clearing away early. Dog friendly which was super. Staff are great, just not enough of them. Paid $90 each for buffet dinner, then a 20% tip forced on us for two people ! Location great. Re-model nice, but just a few management and service level standards not yet reached for this price.

Myself, and my family, including my in-laws stated this hotel. The staff is very ungrateful and rude. You think, being over a holiday that they would’ve been a little more happy and treated customers with more respect. Asking for plates and utensils to use and being told that we can take the good to go containers and rip them in half and they’re being used just as well as plates and disposable silverware is what we received over thanksgiving.

I enjoyed my stay at the wonderful Portola Hotel & Spa!! The location is perfection, bed comfortable and staff very friendly. Will be recommending the Portola Hotel & Spa to my friends and family so they can also enjoy this great place!!!
