This place has always been amazing, but the room renovation that is going on currently, is outstanding! Great job on the decor. It flows very nicely with the lobby. We were told that it should be completed by early May. We'll be back in June! Thank you Portola!

Not worth the price..we had to keep calling front desk for toilet paper and towels due to no housekeeping services cause of covid but u felt lime something could be arranged at least to empty bathroom and room trashcans..

Stayed at the Portola Hotel and Spa in July with family for several days. I think it has the best location for a hotel in the area. It’s in the middle of everything, you can walk to downtown, fisherman’s wharf and cannery row. The hotel was in good shape. Bar and restaurant provided good food and service, at the usual pricey levels you can expect in such a hotel situation. The valets and bellboys (are they still called that?) did great work with the cars and bags coming and going. The pool was still not open, though when I booked several months before I was told the work on it would be complete and reopened in July. At arrival I was told by the hotel that the pool work was complete but that they did not have timing on when they would fill it. Kids were disappointed. My biggest disappointment was they were not servicing rooms. 17 months into the pandemic the staff told me Covid was the reason they were only servicing rooms between stays. I had to bother them several times to get towels and toilet delivered just once. When you pay around $600 a night for a nice hotel room and can’t get beds made, glasses picked up and towels restocked, I consider that a fail. I won’t stay at the Portola again and would recommend others to look at the variety of offerings available in the area. Or better yet, avoid hotels for awhile if possible; they appear to basking in the glow of pent up demand and people so hungry to travel again they can fall short on their obligations and get away with it. We've stayed at the Portola for years, the location is perfect. We did find this last stay that the hotel wasn't as clean as it was in the past and this could be to the shortage of workers due to covid. Their onsite restaurants are not open Wed-Sundays, so make note of that if you're staying during these times. Other than a few issues our stay was pleasant and uneventful.
