Padre Oaks is on Munras Avevue, one of two streets in Monterey where most of the budget lodging options are located. There is certainly nothing fancy about the place, but it is clean and in a great location. A stone's throw from the Del Monte Shopping Center, and anybody in halfway decent shape would easily be able to walk to downtown Monterey and the wharf. They offer a continental breakfast, something that many places at this price point do not. The parking lot is a little tight, a common theme with the older properties in the area that were probably build back in the day when SUV's weren't so prevalent. If you're doing Monterey on a budget, this is a good option.
I was able to book this for the weekday night I needed for a business trip at a very competitive rate. Sought a place that was convenient to find later in the evening, clean, had a micro and frig, and free wifi. Satisfied all fronts! Overall the room seemed updated, including bathroom (shower only). Nice counter size. No coffee maker; plastic cups so that's not usable for the micro. NICE size frig and freezer section. Tv and wifi worked just fine. Bed was comfortable; I would suggest to the management to also offer extra blanket cover. There were extra pillows, so one has a total of 4. Closet also has a luggage rack, iron and iron board. Bathroom includes a hair dryer. Heating unit works; though I personally turn it off on turning in for sleep so as to not be disturbed by the noise (thus moreso the desire for another blanket).…
Location was good. Walking distance to shopping, Whole Foods, etc. The office was small. Rooms were standard motel; nothing special. Bathroom/shower could use a remodel. There was no coffee maker but a microwave but only styrofoam cups so you couldn't heat water. They offered breakfast but we didn't get a chance to try it because it didn't open until 7:30am.
I spent a lot of time weighing up and considering reviews, location, and price and eventually happily opted for Padre Oaks. Yes its quite a way out of Monterey but its an easy walk downhill and doenst take too long for the walk back up! However, the cost was extortianate for the quality of accommodation. It was certainly a budget accommodation but this wasnt reflected in the price and i guess youre paying for the fact you're in the Monterey area. There was building work ongoing when we arrived. Drilling right outside our window. They were even drilling right through Saturday and Sunday. When we got back from a day out they had concreted outside the doors and people had to enter and exit their rooms across a gangplank. To be honest. most hotels inform guests beforehand of work and we really wished we had stayed elsewhere both in terns of the ongoing work and the poor value for money. Breakfast was fine but expected more for the money.…
When visiting our son and his wife in Monterey, we usually stay at the Seaside Inn in Seaside, California. We have been treated so kindly by the innkeeper, Menka. This time we decided to try her other property in Monterey. We found it clean and the King size bed was very comfortable. We experienced great customer service and enjoyed the free breakfast. It is located across from the Del Monte Center mall. If you are on a budget and want a clean motel with fine customer service, we recommend you try the Padre Oaks or the Seaside Inn.
