What a pleasant surprise! So many good things to say about the Colton Inn! We took a chance when my son & I needed a day-of reservation in Monterey. Spacious, comfortable and well-equipped room with a deck. Continental breakfast was a plus in a cozy space. Super friendly & gracious staff that show they care about their guests and take pride in their hotel! Walking distance (5-7 mins) to restaurants and Peets in a beautiful and cool neighborhood. Adequate free parking at hotel. 5-7 min walk to catch the free trolley at the Monterey Transit Plaza that stops at many tourist destinations including the Aquarium. Hotel price was a great value! Such a more affordable and enjoyable alternative to big-name, brand hotels in Monterrey. I’d stay at the Colton Inn again in a heartbeat!

Small boutique hotel away from Cannery Row. The location is still walking distance to the downtown area and the transit center to access the trolley and bus service. The rooms are a bit older but still clean and do not have air conditioning. We managed to sleep relatively comfortably with open windows at night, but coming from Houston (where we set the AC at 69 when we sleep), it was an adjustment. The water from the bathroom sinks was cloudy so we elected to use bottled water to brush our teeth. Our room did not receive housekeeping, I assume because of Covid but this was not communicated at check in. They do have breakfast available with Eggo waffles, toast, muffins, yogurt and cereal. In all, this hotel is a good alternative if you don’t want to pay $500 plus parking and excessive fees for an oceanfront hotel.

I am glad that you enjoyed your stay and that it was a good value for you. Most hotels in this area do not have AC because our climate is a cool one. we hardly ever get over 75 degrees during the day and the nights are always cool/cold. The heater is being used most of the time through out the year. Our experience has been that most people do not want anybody coming in to their room during their stay so we want to respect that and discontinued momentarily but we will be bringing back some form of stay over service next year where guests can opt in for it during the booking process. We hope to see you again on your next trip to the Central Coast. Have a great day :)

We made a last minute plan to get out of town in spite of the virus and were delighted to get a fabulous room at this great hotel, close to everything. The room was spotless.

I had mentioned that we wanted to bike and they were kind enough to upgrade us to a room with two queens and a fireplace that opened onto the common patio where we were able to lock up our bikes. It was great having this huge deck to ourselves listening to the trickling creek and seagulls.

Appreciated that breakfast was included, we picked up a bag of prepackaged items. We also had brought food with us which we used the fridge for and enjoyed lunch on the deck.

The Colton Inn is just a 5 minute walk to the historic district and Alta bakery at the Cooper Molera Adobe, and 10 minutes to the wharf. We loved biking on the bike trail to Lover’s Point and the lighthouse, an easy trail with stunning views! Beds very comfortable, shower exquisite according to my teen who appreciated the adjustable height. TV with HDMI cable we hooked up to laptop for Netflix. It was a lovely 4 nights! Thank you!

Hi Wendy, It was a delight having you and your daughters here. It was fun to see you bicycling all over and have it secured safe outside the room on the deck close to you. Seems like you ventured out a lot and enjoyed our deck as well. Thank you for sharing your experience and till next time, have a great day :)

We loved this hotel. They are taking covid guidelines to the extreme. Signs, sanitizer, masked employees, spotlessly clean rooms, menu for breakfast bags. Everything was top notch. Booked at their website to get a promo code to save $10 and they gave us a room with a balcony. A few blocks out of downtown but easy to get where you are going. Plenty of free parking. We felt very comfortable and safe. I highly recommend this hotel.

I stayed at the Colton Inn in early October 2021 for three nights. I am happy to report there were no problems. The staff was friendly and quite competent. They were able to help me walk to many nearby location such as the historic Friendly Plaza and the nearby Museum of Abstract Art. The manager was just a gem! She is organized and is able to help with directions to a destination or suggestions of lesser-known experiences. The hotel does a thorough job making sure the rooms are clean to protect from Covid-19. The rooms were stylish and include a small refrigerator and microwave. My room faced the street, but there was not much traffic noise and I sleep soundly anyway! The windows actually opened as I like to sleep in a cool room. Breakfast is included and is ready at 7 am sharp! This allowed me to get going on my day very early. TV is provided, though I did not watch much as I was not in the room during the day. I would be pleased to stay here again when I return to the area.

I stayed at the Colton for three nights, and it felt like home from the beginning. Staff are all friendly, welcoming and caring, and my room was immaculate and comfy. The Colton is no-frills and no glitz, but it is quiet and you have everything you need. They handle housekeeping quite sensibly: they will do your room if you ask, and replenish whatever supplies you need; otherwise, you're left alone. Downtown is an easy and pleasant ten-minute walk away, and there's even a Trader Joe's a couple of blocks away, behind the hotel. By Monterey standards, it's reasonably priced, and the included breakfast is a bonus. If I return to Monterey, I hope to stay at the Colton again.

We had a good one night family stay here in August 2021. Although our room was not fancy, it was clean and spacious. The hotel is quite centrally located and we could easily walk to the downtown Monterey area for dinner. We enjoyed the provided breakfast. And while all hotels in Monterey are very expensive on summer weekends (including this one), I thought the price was reasonable and certainly in line with other hotels in the area on the summer weekend when we traveled here. The only (minor) issue is that the beds were on the firm side. Overall, though, I would probably stay here again, especially if the rate was reasonable.

Hello Seattle, Thank you for staying with us and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. If you can travel during the week, that can save you on the hotel rate in general and our lower season always has great rates. July and August and are high season months but our rates are always reasonable compared to other downtown hotels. And bonus is that we are away from the busy areas but close enough to have everything downtown and the wharf in walking distance. We always have a special running for 10 dollars off per night through our website, you will always find the best rates there. I am looking forward to see you again on your next trip to Monterey. There are direct flights from Seattle to Monterey Airport ;) Have a great day :)

This hotel is all about the service. Their staff are amazingly helpful and friendly. Their breakfast was more than I expected and they have a more than adequate spread.

I had the twin family room with a fireplace. The room is a very good size. I did not use the fireplace as they had an electric heater and that was sufficient for me. The only issue with the room might be in the warmer months as they don't have air-conditioning and only have one ceiling fan. But given I was there in November , I was comfortable in the room. Although the hotel is a bit old, the room was well maintained and the bed was very comfortable.

The hotel is in a good location as its less than 10 mins walk to the downtown restaurants and shops. You pretty much can walk to most places from the hotel in about 15 mins or so.

I will come back when I am in Monterey again. At this price , they are a very food option and I am glad I chose to stay here.

Lovely staff. Very clean rooms. They did everything they could to make our stay pleasant even with the Covid restrictions. We stayed in a King Fireplace. The room is large compared to similarly priced motels. I love that the windows don't face the walkways. You can open your windows and other guests walking in the walkways can't see in your room. We were on the second floor so it feels safe and private to open your windows. It has clearly been updated and has a nice newer microwave and refrigerator. Also is in walking distance of great restaurants, shops and historic buildings! We have been visiting the Monterey area for 27 years and have stayed in dozens of places. This will be our place from now on.

Stayed in June 2022, as part of a family vacation from the UK.

Having first stayed at the Colton Inn back in 2017, it was always my intention to return for a trip originally planned for 2020....

Ellen (General Manager) had been so helpful in continually rolling forward my booking over the last couple of years & it was great to finally return for a couple of nights in June 2022. I received a warm welcome from the check-in clerk, & it was especially nice to meet & chat with Ellen after all our emails!

We again stayed in the family room which has 3 queen size beds, which was perfect for our group of 5. The room was very clean, comfortable, & even with 5 of us, there was plenty of room. It's also very quiet so we all got a great night's sleep.

If needed, the room also had a fridge, microwave, & coffee machine, & I enjoyed the complementary breakfast provided, taken in a new (since my last visit) breakfast area.

The Colton Inn is only a short walk away from Fisherman's Wharf, with plenty of parking spaces.

I'd certainly stay here again if I'm lucky enough to return to Monterey, & can fully recommend staying here as a great value, comfortable, & welcoming motel.
