If you are going to a show at the Golden Gate theater or you want to relax and enjoy the many eating choices or bars this is right in the heart of the downtown action. Nice clean comfortable rooms with fireplaces and a cozy continental breakfast which makes you feel like your in England. Parking in the city garage 1 block away for $7.00 is the best deal or they will valet for $35.00. Easy walk to wharf too.

Brilliant location because this hotel is right in the middle of things going on in this town & everyone was very welcoming & the Americans do love pointing out their complimentary breakfasts-& we slept well!-which is important! The Monterey Hotel could do with a little updating but then again, it prides itself on the fact it’s referred to as historic ie 1904....I’d say maybe a wee bit old fashioned.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 4-night stay at the Monterey Hotel. It has a great location, perfect for downtown and the Conference Center. Service was excellent, staff very helpful and friendly. Of course the building is more than a century old, but it's maintained well. Breakfast is abundant, though missing eggs. Highly recommended.

The hotel was pretty basic, our bathroom felt a bit worn down. We just stayed one night though so it was OK. Comfortable beds. Close to Fishermans wharf and also several restaurants on main street. In hindsight, we should have choosen one of those instead of having dinner at Fishermans warf (we only found real "tourist traps" there). The breakfast is amazing. Plenty of fruit, porridge, waffles - we were impressed by this!

No frills, but clean and great location to convention center and Fisherman’s Wharf. No AC, and the rooms are small. They do have fans. A lot of restaurants are within walking distance. If you are on a budget, this will work.
