Despite Covid, my wife and I had a lovely stay at the Intercontinental Monterey to celebrate her birthday. The team were so helpful, courteous and efficient. We had a beautiful corner suite overlooking the water and enjoyed listening to the waves crash on shore. The room had two lovely little Terrances to joy sunrise with coffee every morning or the afternoon sun. The property is perfectly located so you’re easy walking distance to pretty much everything in the area. Unfortunately due to covid the hotel had limited dining options available onsite during our visit. Again not a big deal because of the numerous restaurant options nearby. The hotel parking is conveniently located across the street. If you’re looking for the perfect spot at the perfect property in Monterey, look no further and book the Intercontinental! Enjoy.

While the Intercontinental Clement Monterey was opened in 2008 (I've read), its decor and ambiance beckons me back to the good ole days of the 90's. It's muted and styleless standard room, with its uncomfortably soft bed/pillow and paper cups remind me of the countless government per diem approved places I used to frequent for work during those glory years. A floor lamp with a loose bulb fixture and a gritty and outdated desk phone further add to this sentiment. It is also the only "high-end" hotel I've stayed where you're told to come to the front desk (as opposed to them delivering it to your room) to pick up the many amenities that you would expect to already be in the room when you arrive but are not, such as slippers, pens, and even plastic utensils. I must say that their shorthanded but friendly staff, from reception to housekeeping, deserve kudos for trying their best under challenging circumstances. Being upgraded from a standard room to a standard room with partial ocean view, and 4 pm checkout - as an Ambassador member - despite staying there on a free night certificate, were also appreciated. However, it is most certainly not a luxury hotel as you might have expected it to be given its name. But then again, other "Intercontinental" properties I've been to in recent years don't seem to deliver on that promise either.

Hi Jake K, I'm glad you chose our hotel for your visit to Monterey. Thank you for staying. We promise a comfortable and convenient experience for all of our guests. I'm sorry you experienced issues with the stay, especially with the hotel decor, housekeeping, and staffing. I can see these dampened your visit. Trust that I alerted our management about this so we can make the necessary changes to better our service. We appreciate your feedback about your stay and looking forward to your next travel. Many Thanks, Rein V Case Manager IHGService

Samantha (Front Desk) turned an ordinary visit into a memorable stay. She was friendly, helpful. She made us feel like valued members. Despite services being closed due to covid, room was comfortable. ToGo Breakfast was delivered early each morning. Room view was wonderful. Holiday decorations were really nice. Can't wait to return as soon as things get back to normal

We had an amazing time for a long weekend away. Our 2 children had to Zoom school from the room which they had no problems doing the entire day. The room was spacious and the bathroom was beautiful. My only frustration is that the restaurant was closed for remodeling. Due to COVID, it was hard to find a restaurant late in the evening to eat at and my children were looking forward to breakfast in bed while at school. Never fear, there was a Starbucks across the street. The room was immaculate and the Nespresso machine was an added bonus. I want to stay here again when COVID is long gone. The staff were all very pleasant and accommodating.

We came at the end of November for a getaway from the Bay Area. This was the best experience I could expect from a hotel during Covid times. Staff were very helpful, and kept a distance that was safe for them and for us. Hotel dropped off breakfast bags in the morning and our few toiletry requests were met quickly! I booked this as a rewards stay but paid cash to upgrade to a partial view fireplace room, which was a great choice for us! The water is right there we enjoyed the sound of the waves from our room. The room was a good size, which works well for a time when many other indoor activities are unavailable. Saturday evening featured live guitar music that could be heard from the patio, where guests can sit by the outdoor firepits. We could choose to hear it my opening our sliding door, or close the door when we preferred quiet. Around the hotel, and in Monterey in general, people were very respectful with use of masks and distance. If looking for a cozy stay near the water focused on the room itself, rather than amenitites that have to be closed right now, this was a great choice!
