I stumbled upon the Inn as I was passing through the area and found it charming. I will like to plan a return visit to stay longer and spend more time in the area. The restaurant was good and the complimentary breakfast was appreciated. Really a lovely experience.

Adjust your expectations about what "5/5" means in a review. This hotel will not please those who want luxurious, slick, perfect properties. No, this is a throwback: it is a nostalgic trip to the summer home I never had growing up; it is an echo of a simpler and more relaxed and more genuine life. Right on the Russian River (go ahead, spend the extra bucks to get a room with a view), this classic old wood-sided rambler, snuggled in among ancient redwoods, is ready for its on-location filming. We had booked a much cheaper room in the annex (perfectly adequate, though small) but upgraded to the main house for a large room with veranda and then - booked it for a second night! No elevator, so ask for a ground-floor room if you have mobility issues. The place is pure distilled essence of sleepy summer vacation. There is a restaurant, open only one of the nights we were there. I admit I can't recall what we ate, but I do remember it was very good, and we ate it on the terrace overlooking the river, watching ducks, kids on rafts, and kayakers drift along... it's all a beautiful dreamy blur. The owner, like her hotel, is ready for central casting: she knows everything about the local area and is eager to share. She and her assistant were delightful, helpful, and efficient. I loved our stay here.

I looked with wonder on how they buolt around these gorgeous trees. The proprietor upgraded us to the room overlooking the russian river through a bank of windows. Beautiful spacious room with a sitting area and a balcony. We really appreciated her generosity and we has a great visit with her about the inn and the area. We didn't get to try the restaurant but she revommended a nice place with German food a few doors down. The area is a nice overnight visit. Quaint shops and eateries.

Booked through Groupon with a good price. At the small checkin desk the person gave us a warm welcome. The room overlooked the river as booked. The room had missing cheap blinds for the window/door to the balcony, No curtains on the windows/door. The bathroom sliding door was difficult to open and close. The restaurant was closed. The breakfast was a very limited buffet. The bed was comfortable. The owner walked around in the morning in her dressing gown. The hotel location is good but it is needs rennovation. There is limited availability of good hotels in the area.

The absolute worst customer service experience. Ever. Booked the room thru Groupon over two months in advance only to be told by the owner, JH, on our arrival here that "the room is broken" and that she had instead booked us in a nearby motel that turned out to be a very low end place. When we returned to talk this over, she turned abusive, refused to engage in a civil discussion to resolve the problem and pointed finger at Groupon for "Overbooking" - never mind the initial reason of "Room is broken". Her vulgar abusive tone and language was a new abyss in the area of customer service and while the rest of the staff maybe just fine, so long as Judy remains the owner, this is simply not a place worth booking. Never in our lives have either of us encountered such utter lack of basic civility from anyone in the hospitality business, let alone meet any decent standards of Customer Service. Extremely disappointed in Village Inn & Restaurant at Monte Rio, California. It has a great location no doubt, but the demeanor of the owner is the absolute worst. Not worth it - look elsewhere !
