We stayed at the Northwood in Monte Rio during a family reunion weekend. The room was simply furnished and very clean. The bed was comfortable. The location is very convenient, easy to find and relatively close to the near by activities. Will definitely stay here again.

Our stay here was very peaceful. This is an older lodge so don’t expect luxury accommodations. The rooms are simple and clean with all the basic necessities we needed for our stay (tv, fridge, microwave etc). The owner was a very friendly and gave us recommendations on what to do in the area. Now the large outdoor space is where this place is unlike any other hotel I’ve stayed at. There dozens of blooming flowers that line the walkways. There is also a nice little picnic spot under the redwood trees with a bbq and tables. A few things to keep in mind is that cell service is very spotty here and there are no phones in the room. We ended up going to the front desk every time we needed to make a phone call (luckily this was free). Wifi worked great in the rooms and on the pool, but didn’t work near the cabins.

Very nice, clean rooms, clean out side. nice place to be in the redwoods, Golf is right next door. If you are looking to have a nice vaction, look at Northwood Lodge and & Resort. The owners are very nice, and easy to talk to.

The cabins in the back are atrocious! The smell of mold, paper-thin walls - absolutely no amenities - no hair dryer! The most uncomfortable patio seating - metal picnic table. Takes 5 minutes to get hot water. The grounds are not at all well-kept. Pillows made of stone. Ancient refrigerator & stove. What's not to like for >$300/night?

Maybe it was the fact that it was a foggy night when we arrived, but this outdated and overpriced place seemed like something out of a Hitchcock movie. Definitely overpriced for a very modest room with no sound insulation that needed lots of upgrading. Not particularly friendly service. Maybe it's better in the summer when you can use the outdoor pool, but not recommended for a January stay. This is an expensive area, particularly with the wine crowd on a weekend, so try to plan ahead and do your shopping more carefully than we did.
