I could not recommend the St. Bernard Lodge more if you are going to Lassen National Park or in the Chester area. The Lodge is affordable and I've never had a better B&B breakfast anywhere (and breakfast is included!) You get to choose a variety of breakfast options including sausage breakfast sandwich, traditional egg/meat/toast breakfast, omelette or scrambled eggs. Additionally to the large breakfast they serve you a fruit bowl, coffee, fried potatoes, and, a delicious house-made pastry (We had bear claws, apple strudel, and coffee cake.)

Other than the amazing breakfast, the owners, Sharon and her husband, are incredibly nice and hospitable. They recommended hikes and things to do in the area daily. Additionally, our car got a flat tire the Saturday we were in Lassen, and Sharon offered to pick us up at the tow truck place in Chester and take us back to the hotel (We took her up on it! She was such a lifesaver!)

The only downside to the B&B is that there aren't individual bathrooms per room. The upstairs has two bathrooms/showers for all the guests and there's a bathroom downstairs for diners. I didn't mind at all, because they keep the place clean, but during COVID I could see how travelers might want their own bathroom.

St. Bernard Lodge has great food, service, and is a convenient location!

Just returned from a 2 night visit to St Bernard Lodge/lassen National Park. We loved the location and feel it is on the side of the NP that is better suited for the hiking trails. We stayed in the Evergreen room. Thought it was cute and decorated to suit the lodge atmosphere. Had a nice view out of the window of the pond below. Could not hear road noise at all at night. We felt safe here with covig guidelines in place. Very clean lodge, especially the bathrooms. Towels were thick and fluffy. Then there is the food! We enjoyed our evening meals outside which was relaxing after a long day of hiking. They have a small menu of dnner and breakfast items they allow their guests only to choose from. Breakfasts is extremely large, and prepared quite nicely starting with a small fruit cup. Absolutely no complaints and would definitely stay here again. Innkeeper, Sharon, has lots of good information of things to see in the area. Lastly, the bed was very comfortable. I think it is a pillow top. That was a nice suprise to sleep so well.

I stayed 5 days with Sharon and enjoyed every minute. Great hostess with a plenty of tips. All food I had was very good and plenty - try the scampi with garlic/beer/wine sauce. The interior is very thoughtful and perfectly clean. The location is great in proximity to the entrances in the south of the park and very close to Lake Almanor.

Absolutely fantastic stay for 2 nights in this very different B and B .
We loved its position near Lassen Volcanic Park and it’s delicious food.
The room was great and the bed enormous with great linens .
Bathrooms were spotless and we loved walking around their garden and sitting in the back with a well made gin and tonic .
Breakfast was delicious everyday and the food in the evening was also well cooked and very tasty.
Great bar and very very helpful host .
They have suffered badly recently with the Dixie fire and covid shutdowns and really deserve to have a great year this year . Definitely one to recommend if you are in the area

I stayed at St. Bernard Lodge this week because I wanted to do some hiking in Lassen Park. I was offered dinner but already brought my own. I stayed in the Evergreen Room which had a fantastic bed so slept very well and felt refreshed in the morning. I had scheduled my breakfast for 9 a.m. and was given my choices the evening before. It was amazing- a fresh pastry, potatoes and a lovely omelet. Plenty of food to get me up the trail to Ridge Lake in Lassen Park. Sharon, the owner, was very accommodating in case you wanted her to pack you a lunch or help with directions, or ideas for trails. I would certainly stay there again. Should say that there are sinks in all rooms but otherwise shared bathrooms -toilet and shower. It was now problem for me.

We were greeted in a rude manor upon arrival at the St. Bernard Lodge at 8pm on a Friday night, and offered one key to our room and told we'd be sharing bathrooms with other guests and need to bring our key or we'd be locked out of our room. Unfortunately, we were locked out within the hour of receiving our key and the hosts were nowhere to be found. After calling and texting for hours, we gathered bathroom towels and slept on a shared bathroom floor until I went downstairs at 7am the next morning to find the owner casually checking her email. She was shocked to hear we'd slept on the bathroom floor yet unapologetic.

ASK FOR TWO KEYS TO YOUR ROOM!

The food is not good and there are limited options. Stay in Chester -- the people are way nicer and you'll have more options for dining and good times. The St. Bernard is a last resort option if you're going to Lassesn and there's nowhere else to stay.

Dear Melissa, I am truly sorry that your visit to our lodge was not what you expected, and I was both shocked and apologetic that you were locked out of your room all night. You were upset, angry and I am sure tired. You did not respond to my apologizes. From my records you arrived at the lodge just before 9 pm, about 3 hours later that you first expected. You shared that you had some difficulties during your travel to get to the lodge, making it much later than planned. I am sorry that you felt you were treated rudely upon your arrival, that is never my intent. I know I asked about dinner for the following evening and you were not prepared to make a decision. I gave you a menu and let you know that if you let me know at breakfast, we would be able to provide dinner the following evening. Before responding to this review, I sent you an email and asked for a little more information regarding comments in your review. You have not responded, forcing me to make general responses. After a quick check-in, I then took you upstairs and showed you the room, how to work the door lock so you would not accidentally lock yourself out and where bathrooms and coffee were located. Offered for you to come back down for a beverage at the bar before 10 pm. From your review it seems you were surprised to find out all rooms have shared bathrooms. The fact that we have shared bathrooms is on our website and in your confirmation email, and in several reviews of our property. We do our very best to let guests know that none of our rooms have private bathrooms. After 23 years of running the St. Bernard Lodge I realize that the idea of shared bathrooms is not to everyone’s liking. I work hard at ensuring that all guests are aware of the shared bathrooms prior to their arrival. I was downstairs until 10 pm. As I was locking up, I heard someone go out the front door of the lodge. I do not know if that was you or another guest going out for stargazing. I was over at the lodge early at 6 am preparing for breakfast and shortly before 7 am I was at my computer checking emails. I do this early in the morning to see if any new reservations or dinner reservations came in overnight that I need to be aware of. You came down at 7 am to let me know you locked your key in the room and that you had sent several texts and voice mails to my phone. I was both shocked an apologetic and immediately went upstairs with you to let you in your room. From what you told me that morning, you each thought the other person had the key when you went out and did not realize until you were back that neither of you had the key. Having 2 keys still may not have prevented this if each of you thought the other person was bringing the key. I do not routinely offer 2 keys, but will provide two keys if asked. In 23 years, I have not had a guest lock themselves out of their room and not be able to reach us. Our house is next to the lodge and guests have knocked on the door to ask for help when needed or called. We are still waiting to get our landline back since the DIXIE FIRE. Cell service is unreliable in this area and your messages and texts did not come through until after I let you back into your room. It was an unfortunate situation of being locked out of your room and other than apologizing I could not change what happened. We are not a last resort for lodging., we have many guests that have stayed with us repeated times. However, we are not a good match for some guests. Since you had friends staying in town you did not interact with us or other guests, you missed the best part of the experience of staying here. We are not suited for loud or late activities at the lodge unless a group books the entire lodge. Once again, I am sorry that we failed to meet your needs or expectations. Any additional information you are willing to share to help us with future guests I would appreciate. I hope you enjoyed your visits to Lassen and Northern California and will visit the area again in the future.

BEST (if not the ONLY) choice for visiting Lassen National Park.
Amazing lodge with the most wonderful hosts
Every detail taken care of.
Airconditioned (not often required though) as well as fans in the rooms.
And location can't be better.
And the FOOD, on its own, is something one can go there for.
Hosts (Sharon and her husband) are the sweetest couple

Convenient location for Lassen National Park. Lots of character e.g. classic bar and dining room. The seven bedrooms share two bathrooms but this was never a problem during our three night stay. Tasty breakfasts and evening meals. Would very happily stay here again.

We went as a small group of friends for 3 days hiking and biking in Lassen Park. Lodge was perfect. Special historic atmosphere, rustic and welcoming.
Sharon, owner and manager, made sure experience was very good. We enjoyed the pool table, the historical items displayed throughout, the local beer and in general the atmosphere. Close to the park.
It is a small lodge with handful of rooms, so good fit for small groups, couples or family. Not for business travel. Note that bathrooms are outside of bedroom.

2 couples stayed for 2 nights as our hub for access to Lassen park. Neat property. Definitely an “old school” experience so don’t expect modern but it has everything you need and the breakfast was consistently exceptional. Very accommodating with scheduling.
