Joshua Grindle Inn is a lovely place to stay in Mendocino. Situated in a quiet location within walking distance of the shops and restaurants it has an interesting history and though old in age has been well-maintained. Rooms are fresh and clean, well lit and bathrooms modern with fluffy towels and showers that work well. Each room is different and tastefully decorated. You can choose the room you want when you reserve. We stayed in the Library room which has a big bookshelf filled with books, a fireplace, a comfortable bed and two comfortable chairs to sit in. We especially appreciated the power strips next to both sides of the bed giving us plenty of outlets to charge our devices, something not always available in older homes. Other special touches include wine glasses and opener in the room, a log ready to go in the fireplace and an EV charger on the property for electric vehicles. The buffet breakfast had a delicious assortment to choose from including homemade, warm scones. Breakfast can be enjoyed on the porch or in the parlor. Ken and Kate, the owners, are warm and welcoming and attend to guests' every need. We highly recommend staying here.

The Joshua Grindle Inn is the very best choice of places to stay in Mendocino. Our two stays there were absolutely wonderful. We stayed there in 2003 on our Wedding night, and just returned on our 20th Wedding anniversary. The location is absolutely idyllic with towering trees, lovely gardens and many places to sit outside and enjoy the fire pit and the starry skies and the occasional greeting of the in house cat, Jenna Gold! This historic building and antiqued filled interior, is beautifully maintained. The a place is preserved in time and the perfect place to get away from it all. We stayed in the Water Tower 2 room, with beautiful views of the grounds and ocean in the distance and a lovely wood stove fireplace. We had the celebration package with a lovely bouget of flowers, a box of chocolates, a card and a bottle of wine. The room was exceptionally clean and well lit. Parking was very convenient. The staff, and owner, were very helpful, friendly and hospitable. They also provide a delicious continental breakfast. The Inn is also within easy walking distance of the restaurants and stores in the town of Mendocino. Staying a the Joshua Grindle in is certain to give you very fond memories and is an experience you will cherish. We hope to be back soon.

We spent 4 days at the Inn. It consists of a large house, 2 cabins, and a 3 story water tower that has been converted into 3 rooms. We occupied the ground floor of the water tower. It had a king size bed, pot belly wood burning stove and bathroom. The inn provides one fire log per day to visitors. The bathroom supplies were generous. The rooms are not serviced every day, but the owners were willing to provide additional towels on demand. There was no TV, telephone or alarm clock which we enjoyed. I was told none of the rooms there have a TV so that you can unplug and relax. The place was rustic, but adequate. The grounds had the look of a cottage garden and many things were blooming while we were there. The provided breakfast was of good quality and plentiful. There were not enough tables in the dining room, so some guests had to eat on a somewhat sheltered the porch. We did not try to use it, but we noticed there was an EV charging station. The one downside to our stay was the WiFi. It was very sluggish and often unusable. The owners and other staff were very friendly and sweet. If we visited Mendocino again, we would stay there.

Thank you for your detailed review and mentioning we're a retreat where you can unplug. The Water Tower 1 room is wonderful and I'm sorry to hear you were having issues with WiFi. Most of the time is works well, but we do have different locations that aren't as strong as others. Hope to see you again!

We had a delightful time staying at the inn. We were given a dog friendly room and there was a whole meadow next to the room for our dog to feel comfortable. The owners were exceptionally friendly and helpful (drawing maps, making suggestions, etc) and we felt quite at home in the relatively small but very clean and well appointed room. Breakfast was good (home made granola and scones!) and served on the porch of the main house. We really enjoyed our stay.

Nice Inn, clean, quaint, in a historically preserved house. We had two rooms there, the Master and the Library, both similarly sized, adjacent to one another, in the main house. The Master opened into a sitting room with a coffee maker, cold and hot water water dispenser, homemade cookies in the afternoon. Our room was quiet, even though the windows were open, and comfortable. We slept well. The breakfast consisted of juice, breads, freshly baked muffins, and good coffee, which we ate on the porch. Mendocino is a small town, and we easily walked everywhere (walking is easy for us), including the Mendocino Headlands along the water, which of course are obvious and very beautiful. We walked to one of the several restaurants from which to choose.
The owners and staff were great! They went beyond expectations helping my wife with a medical issue that developed during our stay. We really enjoyed our night ant the Joshua Grindle Inn.

Stayed one night, last minute for a weekend get away. We loved this place. The location is near mid-town so a easy few minute walk into the cute town. Not many shops there, but there are a few (some are also closed this time of year for off season), and also some restaurants. We ate and drank at a nice pub in town (Patterson's Pub) and met some friendly locals and travelers while having cocktails at the bar. Walked back late. The hotel was built some time in the mid 1800's. The room was nice with a wood burning fireplace (they supplied a 3 hour Duraflame log). Shower was nice with really hot water. Bed was nice. We stayed in the Water Tower II room which had a slight view of the ocean between buildings. A highlight was breakfast where you checked off some menu items the night before and they would have them ready for you in the morning while seated in their beautiful parlor. I would definitely stay there again! Oh, you can also walk to the top of the ocean bluffs and see/hear waves slamming the rocky coast. The stairs down to a beach were temporarily closed.

The Joshua Grindle Inn is a beautiful place to stay in Mendocino. We reserved the Grindle room, a large room on the second floor of the main building with a king size bed, a seating area with comfortable overstuffed wing chairs, and a small twin bed. We had a great view out to the gardens, town and a bit of the ocean. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Plus two luggage racks! Fun art on walls and gorgeous lamps. We could open the windows if needed. Breakfast of oatmeal, granola, hard boiled eggs, home-made delicious scones, almond or regular milk, fruit cup plus o.j. and coffee gave us a wonderful start to the day. Innkeeper Kate very nice and outgoing, with great suggestions of things to do. Best restaurant for dinner is Trillium, not open every day, reservations required. Delicious home-made soups. Gals, don't miss the clothing store The Great Put On - fabulous boutique. See the Ford home, housing the historical society. Jam store offers delicious local jams with special berries. Walking along the headland trails a photographer's delight and easy walking. The Inn is within walking distance of downtown. If we return, the Joshua Grindle is where we'll stay!

We just finished our second stay at the Joshua Grindle and it was lovely!
The town of Mendocino it absolutely stunning and this quaint B&B is a true gem. We stayed in Water Tower 2 which is an old water tower from Mendocino's logging era and it felt like our own private treehouse! The room was very sunny, beds were extremely comfy and the room had a wood burning stove inside so we could cozy up by the fire (we had a lot of rain one day so this was clutch).
The breakfast each morning is also quite delicious (make sure not to miss out on the scones or their homemade granola!!) and all of the employees are kind, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area!
This B&B is outstanding - we'll definitely be back and will be returning to the Joshua Grindle Inn!

In a town of great inns and BnBs, this one stands out for its comfort and warmth. Missy, who greeted me on arrival, could not have been kinder or more helpful. She seemed genuinely to care about her guests and to take an interest in our experience. I stayed in the water tower (middle level!), which had a gorgeous view of the town all the way to the ocean -- and a real fireplace as well. I enjoyed having the option to use the main house and living rooms for cups of tea and homemade cookies, just to lounge and chat to other guests after the buffet breakfast or in between my walks to town. Really fabulous books on history of the area -- and the owner Ken is very friendly and happy to share his knowledge too. I will be back.
