Upon arrival we were treated very poorly by innkeeper Levi at front desk. We noticed a dirty car parked out front with a tired dog tied to the side mirror owned by the innkeepers. We kindly asked Levi the Innkeeper for an extra blanket and were promptly yelled at for not wearing our masks. There must be a really strong adhesive connecting Levi's behind to the front desk bar chair because he rolled his eyes upon a request and refused to show us where the ice machine was. He needs some re-training in hospitality and all around inn-keeping etiquette. We had to clean our own rooms and after meeting a really nice Maintenance personnel by the name of Peto who offered to wash our sandy clothes and loan us a vacuum cleaner we were delighted and made sure we tipped this gentleman. We were really disappointed in the curb appeal, gardens and overall exterior condition. Our neighbor let his dog pee near the front entrance of our room and we had to clean this as well. Would definitely not recommend this place. Maybe have Levi work under Peto, there is a lot He can teach this innkeeper.

Liked - The location of the Hill House Inn is excellent. Although we drove because of the cooler weather, the town is just a couple of blocks away from the Hotel as well as easy to get to from the main road - HW 1 Disliked · This hotel needs a lot of TLC. I guess that at one time it was used for an episode of "Murder She Wrote" which ended in 1996, and I can see why, but it looks like it hasn't had much updating since then. Now, I want to acknowledge that we are in a COVID-19 Season and they are probably not getting the kind of usual crowd, so money is likely tight but simple things like gardening, repairing broken bricks and siding, etc., would go a long way. Also, the sink in our room needed to be changed. Having said that, the value for the room, based on the costs of other places in Mendocino, was reasonable. I just wish they would "Fix it Up" a little as it would go a long way...

Upon arriving and leaving the front desk personal had no personality. We had a ocean view room for 2 nights that had a partial view of the ocean. Unfortunately the sliding glass door was filthy which ruined the view. The bathroom mirror was not clean and there was hair on the walls behind the door. After arriving back to our room the next afternoon the beds were not made up but the coffee and cups were replaced.

I stayed at Hill House for a pre-Christmas getaway. My room was billed as a "Deluxe Ocean View" room, was supposedly one of their best rooms, and commanded a higher price than their average room. It had a distant but nice ocean view, however one had to climb two sets of stairs to reach it. The room was quite dirty, the beds were lumpy, and the decor was very dark. The hotel provides only two very small bars of soap in the way of toiletries. The towels were very thin and stained. The faucets of both of the two sinks and the shower were barely operational. The thermostat did not work, and the room was 85 degrees! When I asked for help with the heating system, the staff wee not helpful. Stay somewhere else!
