We have been coming to Stanford Inn since 1995, so a very long time...we come at least once a year or more per year. It is such a Warm & Welcoming place to be. I have already submitted glowing reviews of this place in the past. During Covid this was the first place I thought about traveling, as soon as we were allowed to leave our area. The set up being that every room is accessed by a room door from the outside exterior which assist in social distancing. They thoroughly follow the CDC guidelines that are recommended during this pandemic. There is an earlier review by a person who was disappointed by the lack of certain amenities or services temporarily halted during Covid. I think people need to do their research since just about every inn, hotel, restaurant are providing information of what to expect during this Covid pandemic. Stanford Inn provided very detail information on their website. Apparently this person did not do their research. Stanford Inn is doing an excellent job in trying to keep us safe during Covid. Whenever we come here we feel Rejuvenated, Energized, Relaxed both mentally and physically. It is most likely from the healthy Vegan breakfast (we are not Vegan but we love their breakfast) and the different forms of exercises available and most of all the serene scenery that surrounds you. During Covid, I didn’t know what to expect, but guess what we felt the same way as before, Relax & Rejuvenated! Whenever someone ask us where were are going, we say we are going to Aunt Joan & Uncle Jeff place ...because we feel like each time we come its like coming to a loving relatives place. During our last trip in August, Lauren assisted in a last minute reservation and also with other requests and was very helpful. Since then I also have booked 2 other future reservations and Cory, Lauren, Francine all were helpful and friendly. Thank you Joan, Jeff and Stanford Inn Family for all the years of helping us attain the Peace & Relaxation we so much needed. Ps Please bring back the free daily chocolate chip cookies maybe when the breakfast is delivered?? My husband misses them :)

We have just returned from a delightful stay at the Stanford Inn by the Sea. We had a beautiful room on the second floor of the Big River Lodge, with excellent views of the garden and ocean. We loved sitting on our private terrace and savoring the fine vegan breakfast as we gazed at the heavenly scene before our eyes. The Inn's staff members are extremely warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere throughout the Inn is tranquil and friendly. We strongly recommend connecting with the bike-and-canoe shop on the premises. (Reserve equipment well in advance!) Our canoe ride on the river and our bike ride on the path that runs beside the river were among the highlights of our stay. We also enjoyed shopping and dining in the charming little town of Mendocino. We heartily recommend a stay at this Inn. Refreshing and memorable! Maryellen and Shozo

I hardly ever write these reviews! But we have stayed at the Stanford Inn several times now and the beauty, comfort, style and ethics of this place and the people who run it are unsurpassed. They have proved very resilient also during the pandemic; we felt very safe and cared for.

I stayed Thursday, August 20, 2020 through August 22, 2020. The morning after the first night I found several bites around my ankles. I figured they were mosquito bites as there are a lot of mosquitos there because of the river nearby. The next morning there were a couple more, but I still didn't think much of it. To my understanding, bed bug bites can take a few days to show up. This morning (August 23) I woke up with many many bright red bites in lines up my legs all the way to my behind. Also several on my arms and a few on my back. I called the hotel to alert them so they could do something about it before the first guest. The first response was flat denial "We don't have bedbugs." I told them they didn't have to take me seriously, but that I was calling to let them know. She said they would do an inspection of the room and let me know. I emailed pictures of the bites to them in the meantime. A quick search on google will confirm the type of bite it is, but I already knew because this is not my first rodeo with bedbugs. She called me an hour later and said that she had maintenance (not a professional pest company) inspect the room and that there were no bedbugs. She said I probably got bit by mosquitos. I asked her if she had looked at the pictures which were obviously not mosquito bites. She started interrupting me and became quite rude. I realized they were not going to take me seriously. I told her "good luck" as I think they have a long road ahead of them. I was not offered any compensation or even courtesy.

We were very sorry to read your review! However, we have been in business for 40 years and have never had bedbugs—we’re very aware of what they are, and how they present (sometimes up to a day later). We had the room inspected and none were found. We have received no other reports from any other guests (before or since your stay), so believe your bites were most likely from mosquitoes OR poison oak (we hope not!), both of which are rampant this time of year along the Big River (adjacent to our property). Again, we are sorry you were not happy with your experience, but we take the cleanliness of our rooms extremely seriously, as well as every guest’s feedback.

We have been getting away to the Stanford Inn for many years—more than 20 at this writing. The rooms are always comfortable, the views of the Inn's garden are lovely, and the service exceptional. The Inn is extremely dog-friendly. A short walk through the Inn's beautiful flower and vegetable garden is calming. A lovely indoor pool provides a quiet respite from the outside world. The hotel's Raven restaurant serves a creative plant-based menu; for those who are not vegan, it may open your eyes to some new interesting ways to eat. (For those who are not, Mendocino offers many dining choices.) Because all the rooms are accessed from outside, it's a good place for socially isolating during this pandemic. And, of course, the town of Mendocino is just five minutes away. Come and stay here at least once in your life, if not more.
