#12 of 24 B&Bs / Inns in Mendocino
Please stop traveling to Mendocino until it is safe. It is not now. We are a small village and as I am writing this our county is having its 5th death. Our local government is weak and many other innkeepers only care about your money. We care about the health of the world, the health of our Village, your health and my health. We will stay closed to tourist until it is safe and not just because a bad government wants money. Stay Healthy, stay safe, stay home.

Likes: The owner Mary was very pleasant and our room was ready when we arrived. It was a simple but nice room in need of a couple minor repairs. (The curtain were torn and holes in the sheets). She works very hard and is lovely to talk to. They are dog friendly. Dislikes: The inn overall needs some architectural TLC. The scramble eggs at breakfast had a brown tinge and breakfast overall lacked appeal. The male owner has a chip on his shoulder and if you give constructive/ negative feedback he has a tantrum and calls guests rude or insults them. If he doesn’t like online reviews he continues his childish comments towards former guests. He is unprofessional and makes one’s stay there uncomfortable.

We stayed two nights in this Inn on Main Street. Our room was fine but the place definitely could do with a lick of paint. The breakfasts were very nice indeed. We were lucky with the weather and could walk from the Inn to all the places of interest in and around the town. Never been in accommodation before where cleaning was only done when requested!

It was a perfect experience. I was in my element with the sea almost close enough to hear and touch. Mary and Charles, the hosts, were charming and very accommodating! My room was spacious and inviting. Enjoyed chatting with the other guests at the sumptuous breakfast in front of us. Thank you for a delightful stay! Sharon

This is SHABBY chic. Worse room I've stayed in since in Lima, Peru, 40 years ago. Photos on website must have been taken years ago as they show analog TV's, clean neat rooms, and lovely garden. Three Adirondack chairs in garden hadn't been painted in years. Walking up the stairs we noticed paint peeling. Entering the small room we saw the windows were held open with slats of wood and one had the blind cords tied to the sash. Once we untangled the cord, the blind and window went permanently down. We would have left immediately except that we were with two other couples and sharing a car. Friend made reservations based on good reviews. Don't be fooled. Owner must pay someone to write them. Problems in our room: both windows and blinds broken, wallpaper peeling from ceiling, light bulb in bathroom ceiling fixture not working, seat coverings on two old chairs worn thru to the straw, it took over 20 minutes to get hot water in shower (an old house owner said), older mattress. Rooms are cleaned and towels changed ONLY if you ask. (It saves the owners paying a housekeeper.) Our friends had larger rooms, but one also had broken windows and several other items in disrepair. Breakfast is only partially edible. Eggs and potatoes were very spicy, but worse, Charles wore such a dirty apron that I was turned off before I even ate. Breakfast is served in the living/dining area on TV tables bought from Costco. Fire alarm in room hasn't been checked in years. If you are late for breakfast, no food, as one of our friends learned. No apologies; nothing. A very cavalier attitude. The hosts obviously do not care about their guests and the historic house. Only stay here if you want to "support" Charles' trips to Nepal and hear his adventurous stories.because surely no money goes into maintenance in this sad property. .

We are the "other couple" that the owner brags about kicking out (see Daytripper’s review below). In reality, I calmly and respectfully offered feedback to the owner about our disappointment, listing the issues below. He immediately started screaming at us, violently ripped our page from the guest book, called us c*nts, and physically chased us from the property. My partner yelled "Back off!" because we were afraid he would assault us (he did not). I hoped his irrational temper was due to the death of his dog, but it is consistently reflected in his aggressive responses to other reviews. Stay away from this man and this inn. Our “deluxe” room had no heat. The manager had forgotten to tell us the gas fireplace was broken because someone had burned real wood in it "a few days ago" (a Yelp review said the same thing over a month ago). Her solution - “There are extra blankets in the lobby.” The sheets were bleach-stained, there was no housekeeping the next day, the room was in disrepair - peeling paint, broken shower handle - all items in the owners' control. The cold continental breakfast would have been completely forgivable if it had been an isolated issue, but the overall disrepair, unprofessional behavior, and complete lack of apology was terribly disappointing. When these things (yes, including breakfast) were politely stated to the owner, he exploded in rage, called us vile names, and chased us out the door. Stay away!

You walked up to me when I was in tears and said you needed to address your terrible stay. You told me about the fireplace, I apologized. Then the words out of your mouth were "and too top it off just a continental breakfast yesterday, unacceptable" I said to you My wife set that at the same moment my doggie of 16 years was dying in my arms. You said these words "She told us but we work hard for our money and if you were a professional you would offer us a refund". I told you I was not professional and I turned around and walked into my kitchen. You said A-Hole to me. I stepped back into the hall put my hands together and said "namaste" and walked back in my kitchen. A minute later I looked out the little window of the kitchen door to make sure you were gone and you were writing in my guest book. I rushed out and shouted to not write in it and you kept scribbling in it as fast as you could "horrible stay" . Damm right pulled it from your hands, its not a complaint forum its a book I will read when i'm passing away, full of love and positive comments of how I treat people who aren't like you and day tripper.... Then I told you get out of my inn, you cussed at me I cussed back. Heartless couple. 14 other guest hugged me that day.
