I cannot possibly tell you how amazing this place is in words. It's a must if your visiting Yosemite. We've been road tripping around California and to come here after the city tours in San Francisco etc is just amazing.

Its a charming b&b and your made to feel at home instantly. Mike is so lovely and kind and I briefly spoke to his wife on the phone on arrival she sounds so lovely to. Penny makes breakfast each morning and it's delicious! Hot and cold options with fresh orange, coffee, tea whatever you like.

The b&b is just beautiful from the patio outside where we sit and watch the dear and birds. To the games room where you can play pool or put on an old school movie. I just love it.
I even started teaching myself to play piano in the living room.

The views around the house are just beautiful and there are humming birds outside that Mike cares fir and I can just watch them fir ages at the window.

Our bed is super comfy and cosy. Waking up to birds tweeting in the morning in the woods is just out of this world.

Cannot fault a single thing. Thank you for an amazing stay.

It takes about 1 hour to get to the Yosemite park bit with the views it's no problem at all do easy. The Mariposa town is small but very cute.

Don't hesitate to book you'll love it!

Thankyou highland house for making our stay on our road trip so amazing. :-)

We spent two nights here on a holiday weekend trip to Yosemite. We couldn't have stayed anywhere better. Mike is the kindest, most generous host you could imagine - and gave us brilliant tips and suggestions for our trip. The house is gorgeous and such a nice place to come back to and chill in the evenings, either in the garden with the wild turkeys and starry dark skies, or playing pool in the den. Breakfast was awesome, and on the day we needed to leave early to get to the park early, Mike set us up with food to pack a picnic for the day. Really close to Mariposa with lots of great dinner spots. We will 100% be back. Thank you Mike!

I can't recommend this B&B enough! Fabulous setting, got to see hummingbirds and turkeys. The room and the common areas are amazing. Took advantage of the games, pool table and laundry. The breakfast was phenomenal! Will definitely return!!!

We have always enjoyed staying at B&Bs in Vermont. Yosemite was a bit apprehensive as I had no idea about what to expect by way of B&Bs in California. Turns out that Trip Advisor reviews of this wonderful gem was a blessing. Most B&Bs require a 2 night minimum and they have a cancellation penalty. I knew I was on the right track when I talked to Mike a few weeks before our trip and he assured me that not only did I not have to worry about the minimum stay but he would not even charge my card until our check-out day. Now, who does that!!! We stayed 3 nights here and enjoyed every moment of our stay. We literally had the run of the well kept house. Mike was way too generous in offering us free access to the delicious trail-mix, nuts and cookies (boy, were they good). We brought back some amazing memories of our stay at Highland House and our trip to Yosemite. If I return I don't have to look anywhere else to stay.

My husband and I found this B&B on our honeymoon, in a great book, on Yosemite. We called on our drive up and booked a room for two nights. We were logically thinking we should stay near Yosemite, so we would not have to drive forty-five minutes to get there, but after calling and seeing that all the lodges and motels, in the area of mariposa and near the park, were charging WAY MORE than the Highland House per night and DID NOT include breakfast, we decided that the forty-five minute drive would be worth it. As we drove up the hidden path (and I mean hidden) to the house, we realized that we had definetly made the right choice. The house was beautiful, charming and quaint. We were greated by Mike, who runs the B&B and he made us feel extremely welcome. The home was warm and cozy and Mike leaves all kinds of goodies out at night to munch on. He even lets you raid the pantry for any kind of midnight snack attack, you may encounter! The really neat thing about this place is they have a pool table and two wooden swings that hang from a giant oak tree. The first night we settled in and played a few rounds of pool and the second night, we sat out under the stars and played on the swings. Mike provides latterns too:)! Now dont let me forget about the food.....Amazing....Oh yeah! The first day, we were waken to the smell of eggs and sausage...as we made are way down to breakfast, there was coffee, juice, fresh fruit, cereal, toast, eggs, sausage and fresh jams. On the second day, we were greated with fresh omelets and homade hashbrowns. Perfect for our hikes up in Yosemite.(Nothing like a good breakfast when your hiking all day) Not only that, Mike was so gracious, he gave us power bars and snacks to take with us on our hikes. If there is one thing you do, please say Hi to them , tell them Kristy and Chris ( the honeymooners) sent you......They were great and we will be back the next time we visit Yosemite. We hope that this entices you to stay there and hopefully those who read this will continue to right their reviews as well......ENJOY..... :) PS..Mariposa is also great because the town has so many great local resturants....we recommend the Red Fox, portions are huge.....the price was great!

WOW, Highland House is truly an outstanding Bed & Breakfast Inn. This charming country cottage is located about 11 miles from Mariposa. The Inn sits on a secluded, 10 acres of land that is heavily wooded and backs onto the Sierra National Forest. The Inn is located between both major entrances to Yosemite National Park, making it an ideal place to stay overnight between day trips. The Owner (Mike) and Staff (Nora and Lizzie) are great people who go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. They make you feel at home from the moment you arrive until you depart. Nora or Lizzie prepares an excellent full breakfast which changes each morning. Snacks and beverages are provided as well. There are three very comfortable guest rooms upstairs. You have access to the downstairs common areas of the home including the living room, dining room, game room, exercise room, kitchen and laundry room. During our stay, some guests cooked their evening meals and did laundry. The only negative is that you won’t want to leave. The Inn is charming and comfortable, the Owner and Staff are awesome, and Yosemite National Park and the surrounding countryside are (of course) spectacular.

One thing to keep in mind… Use your GPS with caution and stay on the paved roads while driving in the Yosemite area. There are maps and directions on the Highland House Bed & Breakfast Inn website.

My family of four had just arrived from Australia and we stayed here in mid-Dec for two nights. After taking the scenic tour we arrived in the early evening to be greeted by four deer on the driveway and then the house....oh the house. It was gorgeous, like a gingerbread house lit up like a Chistmas tree and with a beautifully decorated tree in the window. My wife and kids squeealed. We let ourselves in and made ourselves comfortable which was easy to do. You could almost forget about the Park. The rooms were gorgeous, beautifully furnished, clean and well appointed. Mike, Dan and Amber were excellent hosts. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. This place should not be missed for comfort, cost and hospitality and it is well located between the west and south gates to the Park.

If you don't like peace and quiet, wonders of nature, absolutely fabulous breakfast meals with fruits, breads....two or three types.....eggs, meats....two types....yogurt, juice, coffee, along with extra nuts and trail mixes, sodas, computer service, laundry and a quiet and clean room.....then this place is not for you. When we drove up, an envelope with our key inside was clipped to the mailbox at the front door. We just let ourselves in, did what was asked of us.....made ourselves at home.....and enjoyed refreshments on the patio. We watched the wild turkeys strut by while the hummingbirds buzzed in constant rhythm and dance overhead. The squirrels fussed at us while the deer looked on. The Highland House B&B is one hour door-to-door from Mariposa Grove, home of the giant sequoia trees, and the same in the opposite direction for Yosemite. We all gathered in the kitchen while Lizzie or Nora prepared our breakfast and Michael, the owner, shared some interesting sites to visit as we left for the next leg of our trip. It just doesn't get much better than this!

My husband and I had a rough start to the beginning of the year. I will spare you the details, but suffice as to say that we really needed to get away. Since neither of us had ever been to Yosemite and had no idea about the Mariposa area, we sought advice from this website and others. That is how we happened to find Highland House Bed & Breakfast.

From the start, Michael (the inn's owner) was great. I peppered him with questions about the B&B, Mariposa and the park. He was always quick to respond, knowledgeable and willing to offer help. We made our reservation for the long President's day weekend, and packed our bags.

When we arrived at the inn, our first words were "Wow". Highland House is up a gravel drive way, set way back from the main road. We arrived at night and it was incredibly dark. As you ascend the drive way, you see the cottage in a warm glow of low lights inviting you in. Michael's son Daniel welcomed us into the home as we arrived. Michael came out to greet us and then took us on a tour of the inn. From the pictures on the website, Highland house appears small, but don't be fooled. This place is large with generous rooms. There is a large kitchen where everyone seems to gather, a game room, a movie library to use in the game room or you room, books and a computer for use, should you need it. The last stop on the tour is our room, the romantic Forest Retreat, the largest of the three guest rooms. Upon entering we were impressed with the large four post bed, massive stone (wood burning) fire place, and window seat. The bathroom is nicely decorated with blond stone tile, a double headed shower large enough for at least two and a soaking tub. Before leaving us in our room, he tells us that we should not feel confined to our suite, the house is open to us. He also invited us down have a glass of wine with himself and the other guests once we are settled in.

The grounds of the inn are a great place to watch the may creatures. Breakfast time brings out many birds including lots of humming birds, also squirrels and, even the occasional dear. At night, choose a reclining lawn chair or hammock and watch the stars twinkle high above. If you are feeling adventurous, you can take on of the lanterns and go for an evening stroll.

In the mornings, Elizabeth would come and make us all nice breakfasts to get us off to a great start on our day. However, one morning Michael's girlfriend Alex made us and the other guest toasted croissants with all the trimmings for breakfast. It was yummy. One of the best things about the Highland house were the people. Sitting around talking to everyone make you feel less like strangers and more like new friends.

I hate to tell everyone about how much fun we had and how great it was to stay at Highland House, because we want to keep the secret to ourselves. However, we also want others to experience the great time that we had. Michael and the rest truly gave my husband and I an experience we won't soon forget and gave us a fresh start on the rest of the year.

A great find, was almost reluctant to tell anyone!
We stayed here in Oct 2004 and thought it was fantastic. It's a wonderful hideaway in the middle of a forest. Only 40 mins away from the Park entrance. There is an abundance of wildlife and is very quiet. The rooms are very spacious and very comfortable. We stayed in the forest retreat room which is very large with a huge bed, fireplace, private bathroom, Tv and numerous areas to sit. There is even a games room downstairs!!!
Mike is an excellent host who makes sure you have everything you need but is in no way intrusive. Also very knowledgeable about Yosemite Park. Amber's great breakfasts fuel you up well for the day.

This charming B&B is outside the park. Drive up to Yosemite Valley is 45-60 min, depending on traffic. Next entrance is the west entrance on the 140 El Portal Road. Park access has to be purchased there. A big fridge in the kitchen may be shared to store small amounts of personal food.

Breakfast was 8.30 a.m. so no good for such an early start. However, on the day that we left at 7.30 a.m., Mike (owner) allowed us to help ourselves to anything from the well stocked fridge so we just made our own breakfast - no problem. Even leaving as early as you are, I still think it would take you nearly an hour to get to tunnel view. Enjoy!
