I literally can't wait to go back to the Surfrider. I just fell in love with the hotel and Malibu. First of all, the hotel and rooms are lovely. Natural wood, ceramics and rugs. I wanted to move in. I loved the bedding and pillows and am trying to find out how I can purchase them for myself! The staff is warm and friendly. Super helpful and kind. The suggestions of what to do in Malibu were incredible. We went to some jaw dropping beautiful beaches and hiking spots based on recommendations from Surfrider. The food was delicious. We had appetizers when we arrived and then dinner and breakfast the following day. Healthy, farm to table meals that were also very colorful and pretty. So good!!! An exceptional experience--you can tell there's a lot of care and thought put into everything. A note on noise: I am a light sleeper and was a little worried the noise from PCH might bother me at night, but I honestly didn't hear anything from our room. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't need earplugs or anything. During the day, I guess the noise from highway might bother some people, but didn't bother us.

Hi Maria, Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a kind and warm review. These mean so much to us, now more than ever. It's been a wild year in hospitality and we are really doing our best to make guest experience amazing even with all of the challenges we all face. It is so encouraging when a guest goes out of their way to highlight all the positive and let us know how amazing a time they have had, so, for that, THANK YOU. Mostly though, we are SO HAPPY to read that you had an amazing time. We care for our guests and their experiences so much and really believe in the little details. We absolutely loved having you with us and cannot wait to see you back very soon. Thank you again for your kindness and positivity. Warmly, Team Surfrider PS So thrilled to hear that you had a peaceful sleep, despite being a light sleeper. We work really hard on noice cancellation so are always happy to hear that it works.

We were so excited to come down here from San Francisco for a weekend at the beach. The food was great but our room was not restful. There was noise from above ( we had a ground floor room) and the road noise was really terrible! We came for a vacation and left more tired than when we arrived. The whole strip is tired and noise and traffic was terrible. We had nice breakfasts at the Farmshop and Care but the hotel was disappointing. There is a botttle of water provided on arrival and I asked about another and was told if I want more water I can check the mini fridge—- for 6$!! Really? I pay over $600 for a not so nice room and they cannot give another bottle of water each day?!? In any event, I would not stay there again. We had great food but it certainly as not worth more than $600 per night. What a rip, off!

Hi Cynthia, Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review. It's the only way we can improve and so we really appreciate it as we truly care about our guests and their Malibu experiences. We put a lot of love, passion and care into the details and love the opportunity to get better. Thank you so much for your positive feedback about our food, restaurant, bar and service. WE are so happy you loved those things. Regarding the water. While we do offer complimentary water during housekeeping service and also, in room on arrival, we have installed filtered water systems throughout the hotel for refilling the bottles which are provided on arrival. Please know that this, by no means, is us trying to skimp the guest out of water, rather, encourage sustainability by avoiding single use bottle use which is something we are truly passionate about. The filtration systems we have installed for guest use is filtered and fresh water, the same that would be in a single use bottle. Apologies if the fountains weren't pointed out to you, they are installed on each floor and also, on the roof deck for guest ease. We are really sorry not putting a fresh bottle in your room during your stay over service came across as cheap, this is not our intention or motivation, rather, making moves to be as sustainable as possible, while still providing delicious, fresh, cool and filtered water for our guests to refill the bottle provided on check in. Regarding the rates, due to extreme hotel room shortages as a result of everyone traveling domestically as the country is opening up, paired with high increases in costs of doing business (supply shortages, staffing, additional cleaning products and protocols including number of team members required to operate), most hotel prices are higher than usual, particularly over Memorial Day Weekend when you traveled. That said, we really try to add value for our guests due to the increase of travel prices (which are happening everywhere, not just at Surfrider) with many completely complimentary amenities added to the room including free cars provided to guests (complimentary Mini Coopers to drive around in), complimentary surfboards & stand up paddle boards, yoga, complimentary wifi, delivering complimentary coffee to guests in bed every morning, keeping the roof deck bar and restaurant completely guest only to feel like a private club (an keep guests feeling comfortable during COVID times), among other things. Most hotels charge "resort fees" or "amenity fees" or "rental fees" for such, however we truly care about the experience we provide and giving value to guests and so decided to include as much as we possibly can, completely complimentary as added-value. Based on your feedback, we will continue to do such and continue to add fun elements into guest stay. If you ever do wish to come back (we would really love that) may I suggest traveling in October - March when the rates are lower. Have a beautiful Summer and beyond. Wishing you all the best. We really enjoyed having you stay. - Team Surfrider

We had a great time. It was more like a beach club than just another hotel - surfboards, complimentary cars, a private (and amazing) restaurant, attentive staff, GREAT music. Good times and nice people all around.

What can I say? The Surfrider really made me feel like I was living the California Dream. Great rooms (we had an upstairs room with a hammock, it was simple but high quality, everything you need in a beach house). Location was amazing, walking distance to Surfrider Beach, Carbon Beach and Malibu Pier and a quick drive to many great hikes, beaches and Malibu Country Mart. The hotel even has complimentary Mini Coopers to get around in. As well, complimentary surfboards, paddle boards, beach towels, umbrellas, morning coffee delivery, wifi... we were impressed by how many things they "threw in" knowing that Malibu prices can be on the higher end. Most hotels would charge for all these things. Surfrider cares about quality and value. Food was next level, probably the best we had on our trip. Cocktails were clever. Music was thoughtful and I spent half my time Shazaming the songs. Noise definitely wasn't as bad as some people make out on this platform, we weren't bothered at all and were actually pleasantly surprised. Staff were great and there was a really cool vibe with other guests too. Seems that The Surfrider attracts great people.

My husband and I stayed at The Surfrider in May 2021 for a few nights away and loved absolutely everything about it. Our room was on the ground floor which we were fine with. The decor was simple and sophisticated. We LOVED the beds and sheets so much that we are getting the same ones for our own home. The robes and amenities were also incredible. All the little touches made it clear that The Surfrider team really care for their guests. Our room had a small outdoor terrace with dining seating. We didn't use it much (because we LOVED the roof deck and library space) but it meant for a nice buffet between the parking and the rooms (the layout of the hotel means that the ground floor rooms front the parking lot, with landscaping between). The landscaping that creates a great privacy screen was blooming with beautiful vibrant flowers at the time of our stay which was nice to wake up to. We were highly impressed by how quiet the rooms were considering the location! The road noise didn't bother us at all, in fact, we barely noticed it. At check in we were given a coffee card to add a morning coffee order to and it miraculously appeared at our door at that time the next day. Delicious coffee too. The roof deck was a highlight, we ended up cancelling two other reservations to stay at the hotel, the food and view were so good. One night we relocated to the cute little library with cocktails and boardgames, the other night we enjoyed dessert by the roof deck fire pit. The staff were so friendly and extremely helpful. They clearly care about their guests and love working there which always says a lot. All in all a fantastic stay that I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun, relaxing getaway in a boutique setting. We will be back!
