My husband and I had been wanting to stay here since it opened. We had a trip planned in 2018 and it was when the horrific fires hit. It has been a MUST to get to and we finally came this fall. To say the staff, location , food and decor is excellent is an understatement. Every detail is so thought out and yet everything feels so easy and light all around all. Steps away from the historic pier and beach. The smell of the ocean is all around you. A modern California beach house that is so well thought out, a library, seating areas, roof top guest only restaurant and oh so cozy rooms. Every staff member was so wonderful and we never ate better! We can’t wait to come back!

It is hard to put in words what this hotel means to me. I have stayed there many times over the last four years and the way I am treated always makes me feel special and well looked after as if I’m a family friend rather than a hotel guest. The hotel is on the busy Pacific Coast Highway but what you get when you are in the hotel is a small (20 rooms)peaceful haven with perfectly designed beach chic decor and a rooftop terrace to die for. In the day the view is incredible watching the best surfing on the whole coast of Malibu and depending on the time of year I have seen huge pods of dolphins. At night the terrace has an amazing starlit atmosphere with warm heaters and a fire pit. But the most important factor that makes this hotel stand out in a class of its own is the staff who make you feel like a guest or family. I arrived late on Thanksgiving night when Malibu was in a complete power cut and the circumstances for the hotel must’ve been a nightmare yet I was treated to some apple pie from the owner and the member of staff that it was meant for! Thank you Jordan for being so kind. Big thanks to Derek and of course Emma who is one of the owners.

We were so excited about our visit to Malibu and the Surfsider. The staff is so lovely and helpful. You must visit the restaurant, the food is wonderful. We did appetizers and then dinner the other evening. Wish we have visited for lunch, the menu looked great. When we booked, all that was left was a 1st-floor room, not the one under the kitchen. It's a compact room but really dark so that you have privacy from the parking lot. I would recommend a room on the 2nd floor as I am guessing they are brighter. It's a boutique hotel so you may hear neighbors. We did not have the best weather so were not able to do any stand-up paddleboarding and picnics on the beach. Super clean hotel and great location. Able to walk to many locations for coffee and lunch.

Hi Peggy, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. We loved having you both with us and are so thrilled that you had a great time and that you loved the food :) As mentioned, you'll definitely have to dine for the lunch menu next time... it's fabulous. You're right that the upstairs rooms have incredible natural light and views and the ground floor rooms are a little more cozy. See you soon, we hope. It RARELY rains in Malibu so we can almost promise sunshine for your next stay ;) Thanks again for taking the time to leave such a great review. WE really really appreciate it. - Team Surfrider

My husband and I stayed at the Surfrider for 3 nights in July and had a terrific time. The hotel is well-located right across the street from Surfrider beach and provides free surfboards and low-cost wetsuit rentals, which was a nice perk for my surfer husband. The hotel is right on the PCH, and there is indeed highway noise, but the hotel staff cheerfully provided me both earplugs and a white noise machine to drown out the sound, which did the trick and allowed me to sleep well. The room was small but well appointed with comfy sheets and high-quality towels, robes, toiletries and a rainfall shower, and the ocean-front rooms have a pretty view of the sea. The hammock on the balcony was also really relaxing. The rooftop deck was lovely -- we especially loved the nighttime fire pits for the evening chill --and the food and drinks were delicious. We also thought the staff across the board were very friendly, helpful and fun to talk to, and gave us tips for great hikes nearby. The hotel is expensive but we felt the splurge was worth it for a fun, relaxing vacation.

I literally can't wait to go back to the Surfrider. I just fell in love with the hotel and Malibu. First of all, the hotel and rooms are lovely. Natural wood, ceramics and rugs. I wanted to move in. I loved the bedding and pillows and am trying to find out how I can purchase them for myself! The staff is warm and friendly. Super helpful and kind. The suggestions of what to do in Malibu were incredible. We went to some jaw dropping beautiful beaches and hiking spots based on recommendations from Surfrider. The food was delicious. We had appetizers when we arrived and then dinner and breakfast the following day. Healthy, farm to table meals that were also very colorful and pretty. So good!!! An exceptional experience--you can tell there's a lot of care and thought put into everything. A note on noise: I am a light sleeper and was a little worried the noise from PCH might bother me at night, but I honestly didn't hear anything from our room. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't need earplugs or anything. During the day, I guess the noise from highway might bother some people, but didn't bother us.
