Beautiful property…. But our room is just not up to standard for the price paid. It’s 3 stars. But there’s damage on wall, very dirty wall corners, and a stain on the rug . I’m in a signature single suit cottage What makes this a 2-star overall rating is the attention to detail. For example, we ordered in room dining with scrambled eggs, pancakes, etc. (Items that need a fork). While they asked how many utensils, none arrived. You also have to order/request salt and pepper (we learned that through dinner service last night). When breakfast arrived…. No utensils. We immediately notified in-room dining. It took them nearly 30 minutes to deliver utensils. Food is cold sitting (with lid on) for that long. Right before utensils arrived, I called to say the food is cold and kitchen should remake. But then we just said never mind. It would take another 45 mins. It’s these little service issues along with the room quality that have me give this rating. If staff were trained on the details, it could be so much better. Staff are very friendly!…
We were here in February and had such a wonderful time, we wanted to return in the summer. While the property is beautiful, food is delicious, and so much to do on property, we feel what really makes Calamigos extra special is their team - everyone is friendly, bubbly, and provides great service. We wanted to shout out to those that helped make our stay so good, and in particular Valeria, Luke, and Jennifer at the spa, each of whom we’d met during our first visit, as well as the crew at pool who we met this time, Amanda, Dani (front pool provides great snacks/drinks that come around), and Tyler (super knowledgable bartender). At the Beach Club (which is a great place to spend the day) Nina and Michelle were super friendly and Drew assisted at the beach. Thanks also to Kurt both for his very warm welcome to us, and for assisting with dinner reservations in Malibu. We also are appreciative of Bento, JR, and Michael (front desk manager). We were sorry to miss Adrienne! This time we stayed in one of the Executive Suites. It was nice to have the extra room and patio, but it is a little dark if you want a lot of sunlight and one must be careful with the steps up to the actual bedroom/down to the bathroom from the bedroom at night. Staying in an Executive Suite also allows you to use the back, more private pool, which is a really nice place to relax.…
Friendly staff, great service, and a really nice getaway from the LA hustle!! The grounds are fun to explore and have all the amenities you need. Make sure you take advantage of the shuttles down to the private beach club - with complimentary coconuts to drink from!
Amazing place for a pleasant staycation in Malibu , clean room , great weather ,very friendly staff, nice food , access to different activities swimming pulls , tennis court , gym , … . We didn’t get a chance to go to the beach but there is a shuttle to take guests to the private beach from the front lobby . I loved foggy mornings , hot afternoons and lovely chill in the evening .
This was our third trip to the property in the past five years. It is so lovely here. It's one of my favorite places to go. So close to home, LA, and yet feels like I went to another planet. The property is huge and new buildings and bars and restaurants and spots to grab a coffee or constantly going up. While the prices are on the more expensive side, they treat their guests with so much care. The first round mini bar, a bottle of wine, a candle, are waiting for you in your room complimentary. As you enjoy the day, there is a margarita cart, juices passed out at the pool, happy hours, flavored water everywhere you go. It’s so fun to walk around the property and just get lost and all the spaces. We’re in the middle of the forest and it feels absolutely gorgeous. The property is wonderful for a romantic getaway but it’s also family friendly and we look forward to bringing our kids. We can’t wait to come back!…
We stayed here for 4 nights as a family with two teenage boys at the end of our Californian Vacation. We loved it! Such a treat. The atmosphere at the Ranch was elegant, magical and calming. We had a 2 bedroom bungalow which was decorated beautifully in Californian beach lux - cream, natural woods, interior design books scattered around, cactus and olive trees in the little, internal courtyards. The bathroom is open plan to the bedroom ( my one criticism) but had loads of lovely potions and lotions complimentary. In fact there were so many lovely added touches - a gorgeous named gift waiting ( thank you - I am burning the candle now back in London and it reminds me of Malibu)), a complimentary snack tray refilled every day ( thank you from the teen boys!) and generous mini bar. Similarly around the ranch there were daily juices and smoothies to help yourself too and iced lemonade by the pool. The spa pool was huge, more adult friendly with hot tub and cabanas. The main pool seemed much busier and kiddie friendly but still lovely. My son said the gym equipment was high end and went everyday. The coffee shop for a little morning walk and coffee, a great addition and the breakfasts at The Ranch Restaurant outstanding. Finally the twinkle of endless fire pits and chandeliers handing from the trees at night gave the Ranch a truly ethereal feel. Location wise we had booked the Ranch as a base for exploring LA but in hindsight it is a bit far out with LA traffic. Finally the beach club was perfect - free SUV transfer, fresh coconuts, deck chairs . Really hope to be back ! Big shout out to the attentive and friendly valet guys and waiters at the Ranch Restaurant and Pool bar.…
Exceptional stay at this unique property. Set in the Malibu hills, the amenities are plentiful and the staff is so kind! Authentic kindness/service throughout our stay. The staff is engaging, helpful, knowledgeable and go out of their way to make every guest feel like family.
We stay in a lot of luxurious and beautiful places but this was the most magical stay I have ever had! The property is the most beautiful place and the service was above and beyond anything I have ever experienced. All of the extras and little touches are unmatched by anywhere we have stayed. Treats and drinks and extras at every turn! We will absolutely return ASAP both with our families and couples and girls trips for years to come!
My wife and I wanted to do a little staycation in LA with our 10 mo old son. We had friends stay here before and share how amazing it was, so we decided to give it a try. To address concerns first: Is it expensive? Yes, it's certainly an investment. It cost more than the other properties we were considering but our friends stories + reviews led us to going all-in. You feel spoiled from the start. We got out of the car into the beautiful check-in area and were handed chilled champaign while they got our keys ready. And they just don't stop: the rooms are full of snacks and bottles of water, there's a bottle of wine waiting for us, and the fridge has other chilled drinks, all included. There were more little thoughtful surprises throughout, but I won't spoil the fun. (For what it's worth, the water is not off-brand it's Avion, the soaps are generic they're boutique, the snacks are legit...you get the idea - they don't cut corners anywhere.) Next concern: Is it far? Even being local to the westside of LA it was far. If you're from out of town, you'll definitely want a rental car to get out that way. BUT, you really really feel removed from the city and totally surrounded by nature. It was exactly what we were hoping for. There are also cool spots to check out in the area on your way out or back (including wine tastings, small cafes, etc.). Those were our only concerns. Now for the good stuff: The Team: Every single person we interacted with was delightful. Cheerful, felt genuinely interested in how we were doing and, if we needed anything, they were quick and proactive to help no matter how small the request. They all seemed to remember our names, prior conversations, details...amazing. And, while the team is everywhere to help, you can also just text the guest services number (they'll reach out to you first so you have it) and anything is addressed so quickly. From the valet, to check-in, to the bars/restaurants, the pools, the spa...every single person was fantastic. The property: It's huge. I believe 250 acres or something like that. We stayed for 3 days and wandered a ton but still want to come back to explore more. It's beautiful, rustic, quiet, and well maintained. The facilities: You're a "trapped audience" since you're at the resort, which sometimes means a place knows they don't have to work as hard on the food and such. Not here - every plate we had was delicious. Shockingly so. The pools were surprisingly not overcrowded, and they're open 24 hrs a day - day swims are refreshing and night swims are magical with the subtle blue recessed lighting. You also get access to their beach club with is definitely worth going to. You show up there and are immediately greeted and they set up your own beach chairs/towels/umbrellas/etc. You can hang in the beach house or go under the tunnel to the beach, both have food and drink. The rooms: We stayed in a bungalow which was really comfortable and had an intuitive layout. The beds are firm - which we read some people weren't fans of but we slept great. The outdoor private deck area is nice to relax in in the morning or evenings, and an outdoor shower under the stars is always a treat. Random: It was great with a baby. We weren't sure how that was going to go, but other guests and the staff were all so kind and caring, and the baby loved exploring and swimming. There are cows and horses on the property if you seek them out, which kids and adults loved. Malibu Cafe is part of the property which is a really fun outdoor dining-meets-park venue. My sister and her husband met up with us for brunch - easy and delicious. They charged up our tesla free of charge upon arrival, and I saw they were charging other kinds of electric cars too, so take advantage of that if it applies. The other aspect that made the stay was actually the other guests. We met people from near and far, old and young, and everyone was so nice and interesting. Ok, that was my stream-of-conscious overview the day after we returned home - I hope it's helpful and motivating. We loved it (if that's not obvious) and will be back again. Added a few photos but realized I didn’t take many without us in it……
This was a delightful surprise. I didn’t have high expectations from a property that caters to large events and weddings, which, BTW, this place is ideal for one. This was one of the most welcoming resorts we have experienced. It felt as if you were were a guest on someone’s private property versus the type of experience you have at a luxury corporate resort. We never felt crowded even when there were events (3 weddings one night). In fact my husband and I were one of 2 other couples at the bar and we were waiting for the mad rush to the hotel bar after the events ended, much to our delight, it never happened. Check in was done electronically and in the canned welcome email it invited you to show up as early as 11 to enjoy the property….so I decided to take them up on that and spent my afternoon working by main pool, one of the 3 pools on property. The lobby is spacious and offers three different agua Frescas. There is glassware behind the welcome desk, so I guess if they know you are celebrating something, they give you welcome glass of something bubbly, which is always a nice touch. I booked late (a week before) so my choice of rooms were limited. We stayed in the premium cottage with the outdoor shower. Next time I would book a bungalow to have an outdoor bath and a little more outdoor space as we spent a lot of time enjoying on the patio. Which also makes the premium cottage/cottage a good option if you know you aren’t going to be in the room much, why pay extra for things you aren’t going to use? I got access to my room well in advance of check-in time (very thankful for that). Upon entering the room, was astonished at all of the complimentary items. I didn’t take a picture, but its was like the owners also hate getting nickeled and dimed by hotel minibars and said, we don’t want the hassle, have all the snacks and soft drinks and forget paying $10 for a bottle of water. They even give you a bottle of their estate wine. The complimentary spa products, and I’m not talking about the hotel bath products (which were great too) were a fantastic add. I didn’t have time to get to the spa, but after using the salt scrub, I’m really sad I didn’t. Oh and who doesn’t like a rubber ducky? There are several short hiking trails on/near the property. Each of which take about 40 minutes to an hour if you want to stretch things out. The trail leading up to the rocks appears to connect to the larger trail system in the Santa Monica mountains so you could make it even longer. There is also a trail from the beach club, we didn’t hike that one, but did the other two, which offer some nice lookouts and lizard and bird sightings. The best thing about this resort was the beach club. If you are like me, you tend to read the negative reviews on trip advisor before reading positive ones. Please disregard the negative reviews about the beach club. You take a shuttle down or drive down to your own private beach club…in Malibu. How could anyone complain about that? Oh remember, the beach is public, so that fact that you have a reserved space on a public beach and you don’t have to do anything but show up? Ok get over yourself. When you arrive you are greeted by the staff and offered a coconut water. The beach club has changing rooms and showers, full bar and kitchen. So what that you have to walk through a tunnel? If you have kids, they love to hear the echo. The beach club is also a great jumping off point to other destinations in Malibu. We didn’t rent a car, so it was great for us to go to the beach during the day, shower, grab and Uber and head to dinner in Malibu. We also did the reverse, we went into Malibu for lunch and grabbed and Uber and spent the rest of the day at the beach club. I should also add the beach club is a 10 minute walk to Malibu seafood. If you tire of the beach club menu or want to grab dinner before the 8 pm shuttle (on weekends), its a great option. There is only one negative I can say about the beach club…sometimes they don’t follow beach etiquette….which says who gets to the beach first gets the front row seat. You don’t set up other guests with an umbrella and obstruct views if they arrive later, they take a seat in the back. Going back to the shuttle, the valets at this place are some of the most service oriented individuals I have interacted with while traveling. They are observant and anticipate needs. I have to mention Conner, his service was outstanding, even offering to mail us a parting gift because they ran out. I usually cannot say this about most places, but this resort is great for kids, couples, and events. I don’t know how they do it, but it always feels like you have the place to your self. overall this is a relaxing and neatly curated atmosphere and a very engaging staff. I’m posting the only photos that I took. They did have special, complimentary events during the forth of July. I took a pick of what they set up for the movie night. Again, all complimentary.…
