Lupin Lodge may offer the ultimate value in clothing-optional relaxation and nude recreation in the San Francisco Bay Area. Members escaping the pressure-cooker of nearby Silicon Valley swear that only a few hours spent au natural at Lupin provide the de-stressing equivalent of a seven-day cruise. Just imagine how relaxing an Eden-like vacation or holiday getaway might feel at one of California's most scenic naturist resorts.

My boyfriend and I just spent the weekend at Lupin Lodge and to say we had an amazing time is an understatement. From the beautiful grounds, to the welcoming staff and guests, and the feeling of feeling safely nude, we’re already ready to book our next trip and to bring friends. (Also, for context, we are in our early 20s, live in LA and have never been to any sort of nudist community.) If you’re debating whether or not to go - the answer is GO!! We were greeted by a few of the staff and felt incredibly welcome right away. They showed us to our yurt (new dome) which was extremely spacious, clean and very comfortable. They made sure we had (2!) heaters and plenty of blankets and we felt totally comfortable. The yurt was also very close to the bathrooms which were clean and modern. The residents, guests and staff are really what make Lupin special. Michelle, the chef, was sure to personally look after us and served up some of the tastiest meals we’ve had in a while, which were prepared with fresh herbs and produce from the Lupin garden. Lori Kay, Lupin’s owner, puts so much care and attention into every detail of the experience - particularly on creating a safe and welcoming community of members. And she’s done an incredible job - we had scintillating conversation with so many of the guests. There was an openness to the conversation that felt very surprising and refreshing. We participated in game night on Saturday and had a lot of laughs & made fast friends. The property and accommodations were also beautiful! Lupin is settled into the mountains near Los Gatos, and wildlife is common. We saw families of deer prancing around all day. They have tennis, pickle ball and volleyball courts, as well as a pool, sauna and hot tub which we totally took advantage of. It was so relaxing. If you’re worried about being nude, or around others nude, don’t worry. The club is “clothing optional” mostly everywhere except for the pool/ hot tub and sauna. We felt silly for the first 30 seconds after stepping out of our yurt, but settled in right away and felt totally at ease - and honestly, preferable! Thank you again to everyone who made our experience so wonderful - we can’t wait to return!

Spouse and I scheduled a day visit as part of a California stop from the Midwest for a long weekend. Gorgeous wilderness setting but rustic to the point of neglected. Examples: The restaurant is near the roadway entrance but good luck on finding the entrance to the restaurant itself. . Dumpsters near a rear door and deck -- that looked like it might be the entrance. But no signage "enter here" or similar. We finally figured it out, went in and ordered burgers that were delicious but spoiled by flies --- many flies -- in our dining area. Rustic setting, true. But might flies be mitigated by modern apparati or just a double door setup that might stop the intruders at the threshold. The pool area was passable but the decking and such clearly in need of serious overhaul. Our general sense is that this hideaway is either poorly managed or being operated for maximum profit with minimal spending for overall upkeep. Though an entirely different clientele and higher cost, would recommend Mira Vista near Tucson as the ultimate sunny setting escape of this kind. Don't mean to be negative, but Lupin needs a wakeup call.

* I stayed there between 12/21/2020 - 01/05/2021. They had at least one confirmed positive Covid-19 case among their residents. I was exposed directly - and indirectly through an enclosed birthday party on 12/29/2020 attended by numerous staff and residents. I went into quarantine in my yurt. The positive person, many other residents, and most staff live either in yurts or ill equipped tailors - all those people use the same facilities that visitors use: community kitchen; bathrooms; etc. It was quite alarming to hear from two staff members (Mindy H. and Sara G.) that the positive resident wanted to get infected - I can't trust such a mental state for deliberately trying to infect others. Lori Kay, the owner, kept it a secret. Only when I pressed her and after three e mails she replied admitting a positive case was confirmed to her on 12/30/2020 - but she went ahead with New Year's Eve party and January 1st activities. It is highly likely she is turning a blind eye to more positive cases among staff and residents. Lori Kay refused to address in good faith a few serious and pressing concerns that I raised with her privately. Instead, her office e mailed me saying "we are not responsible for your imaginary health condition". Lori Kay un conscientiously has been letting in oblivious visitors and exposing them to serious injury including Death! House keeping admitted that they do not wash blankets and comforters - they just oder-concealer spray them; this is disgusting and dangerous!!! On 12/31/2020 I informed Santa Clara Sheriff's dept. - but they were quite relaxed about it! On 01/08/2021 I reported Lupin Lodge to Santa Clara DA's office as directed on their website - providing Lori Kay's e mail admitting to the positive case and her apparent avoidance to address such a grave matter in good faith. I don't believe she as a business owner reported the positive case to the DA's office as she is supposed to. * Less pressing: I found on my CC statement 4 charges for 4 meals total $100 all within a few hours. I friendly tried to review the charges with chef Michelle who runs the restaurant - to no avail. I cancelled my card - now disputing the charges with my bank. Make sure to save your charge slips. Chef Michelle's advertised credentials on lupin's website are crowned with a degree from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts - from her food quality, hygiene, and other reasons, it is really hard to believe it! Simply, a photo of her degree - and at least clean finger nails - would settle it. Because I pressed Lori Kay on the covid positive case and the charges at the restaurant, she cancelled my membership that I purchased this summer. Oh well - Cest La Vie!!! Because I live in a different county - and my living arrangement, I duly and timely requested a week stay extension to finish my quarantine - Lori Kay refused. Not only that, she called the police and lied to them that I did not pay for my two-week stay - I simply showed the cop my receipt. The cop conveyed to her I was ready to pay for a week extension up front but she refused again. I had to follow the cop's order and left - I finished quarantine on my own. For my despicable ordeal, I demanded a refund for my two-week stay but Lori Kay refused. * I am not aware of any security measures - you get robbed, rapped, or murdered you are on your own. Lori Kay and a few of her staff were so threatening I really felt unsafe; I slept the last week with the lights on. Theft, including food, is rampant. A mini fridge and a locker in every yurt would be helpful. I brought up the security issue directly with Lori Kay - I also asked her if she was supposed by any law or regulation to provide any security measures; she refused to answer. However, a staff member confided in me a concern about hidden cameras in the lounge and the surrounding area next to the restaurant - both the lounge and the restaurant are clothing optional. I directly asked chef Michelle about any such cameras. She said she had cameras installed inside the restaurant because it had been broken into and liquor was stolen - but she avoided answering about the lounge and the surrounding area. I am 47 years old guy and this is my first review ever because it is a must. Leaving out all the other BS covered in other reviews here at TripAdvisor and elsewhere - such as prostitution and drug addictions - my intention here is only to warn people regarding their health, pocket, and safety. Every assertion I made is backed up by a documented proof. While no complaint about me was ever brought to my attention verbally or in writing, I had to demand they cease and desist their documented - and on going - attack on my good reputation. Must say: gorgeous nature! I was happy to meet and befriend many of the revolving staff, residents, and visitors over the last 2 1/2 years frequenting Lupin. Although horribly managed and maintained, I continued to go there as it's the only naturist "resort" in the Bay Area. Sense a power trip here? Rhetorically. I must add, I didn’t go there just to get a full body sun tan, but also to learn and grow through the events they have - I was in disbelief when early on I was told by many that Lori Kay was convicted for stealing water and class action sued for wages - and I was quite dismayed when I verified it on line. But as I said I continued to go because it was the only naturist “resort” close to me. I immensely enjoyed Beth’s workshops and was so sad to see her leaving!!! Lori Kay proved to me so many times that she and her establishment do not practice what they preach - egregiously! Her gross negligence and outrageous conduct regarding Covid-19 and otherwise do not convey to me any interest in doing the right, conscientious, and honorable things which are at the heart of Lupin Lodge alleged mission. Also, they do not convey to me as a paying customer any interest in taking this place to its full potential or anywhere close to that. Although Lupin Lodge is in the backyard of millions of people in San Jose, Santa Cruz, and other populated cities, I never had a problem booking a yurt from only 10 yurts designated for visitors - and I never had a problem finding a parking spot very close to the amenities - I find it foreseeable the place goes out of business - and peoples’ currently discounted memberships costs going to waste. Readers: draw your own conclusion! Be vigilant about your health, pocket, and safety!!! RN

My wife and I stayed for the week end and it was very quiet and relaxing, although my wife tried to pet a raccoon, she is not an outdoorsy woman and didn't know better and I caught her. It has a 8 person hot tub, a cold plug pool and a sauna. Yurts and cabins a Cafe and a communal kitchen. It, as I said was very relaxing.

Getting out of the heat of Arizona into the cool forests of Santa Cruz mountains is amazing. Along with the access to free wifi, the restaurant, jacuzzi and swimming pool, once you walk out on the trails, within a couple minutes you are completely surrounded by forest. The staff and people here have been friendly and nice. It is clothing optional so kindness is very important. Seems to be all ages from children to twenty something all the way up to seniors. I love that it's a mixed community.

I have stayed here twice when business has brought me to the bay area. The people are so friendly, the Woodland setting so tranquil. It's true that some of the abandoned buildings on site are derelict but they keep the active buildings in good repair, the pool very clean and the hot tub and sauna very hot. The hiking trails are short but very picturesque especially the overlook from the top of the trail. I loved my stay in a cosy yurt and the sight of the trees swaying in the breeze during yoga. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

My husband and I stayed at Lupin May 5-7. We may have been the first of the “summer” visitors. The place was SO quiet it was hard to believe anyone was there. But they were—just very respectful. The staff was extremely helpful. The linens were new, The cabin was “rustic” and in need of some spring cleaning. We were able to bring and cook our own food. The grounds were beautiful. The pool and hot tub were warm. The location is a short but windy road between Los Gatos (great places to eat and shop) to Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk.

I spent a week at Lupin Lodge and really enjoyed my stay. The place is nestled in nature: trees, trails, creeks, deer, birds, flowers - so much life. The pool and hot tub area were extremely clean and surpassed my expectations. I stayed in a yurt and really enjoyed the comforts of the yurt, especially the heated blanket. The bathroom and showers were clean as well. The restaurant was good and they served an amazing veggie burger, but I wished they had a bigger selection of healthy foods (more greens). Beyond all this, I appreciate the mindset of the place, which is one of full acceptance and freedom.

I visited Lupin Lodge on Saturday, 2019-04-06, as I have done frequently for over 40 years. This time I participated in a naked yoga class, hiked the Nature Trail with a group of friends, had lunch in the Clubhouse Restaurant, and soaked in the hot tub. Contrasted to other more "upscale" resorts, Lupin offers the most friendly, welcoming, accepting atmosphere where everyone can drop their pretenses and just be human.
