If you are not driving, I would strongly recommend this hotel for spacious, well-appointed rooms that are a really good bargain. But if you have a car to park, avoid it like the plague! The parking spaces are the narrowest I have ever seen, and the cars are crammed together so tightly that mishaps seem almost inevitable. I spent my whole stay worried sick that I would suffer door dings or that a car would park next to me that would block my entrance. Also, most of the parking spaces open to an alley, which left me very concerned about security, especially when homeless people were huddled in the parking space right next to my car. Street parking is not an option, as it is limited to two hours. As much as I liked my room, I would never consider staying here again.

Response from Mark Beccaria, Owner at Royal Palace Westwood
Responded Nov 30, 2022
Dear richardrss1, Thank your for taking the time to provide a review on your stay at the Royal Palace Westwood Hotel. I am glad to hear you found our rooms to be spacious, well appointed and a really good bargain. Please accept my sincere apology with regard to the parking spaces being on the small side. On top of our rooms being a good bargain, we are happy to be one of the few hotels in Los Angeles that provides complimentary parking. The hotel next door to us happens to charge $46.20 per night and their only option is valet parking. If you would have let us know your concern about the parking, we could have reserved one of the larger parking spaces for you during your stay. I hope you will reconsider staying at our hotel the next time you are in Los Angeles and giving us the opportunity to provide you with a parking space that meets your expectations. Please know we greatly appreciate your business.

I stayed here when visiting my daughter at UCLA and it was a really cute little place. I could walk everywhere in Westwood and onto campus easily. It was clean and comfortable. You can't beat the price.

Many positives: The hotel is within walking distance of UCLA as well as shops, cafés, and restaurants. It also offers free parking, which is a big plus, even though the parking is pretty cramped. The rooms are reasonably updated, clean, and a good size. Our room had a small table with chairs, as well as a microwave and a fridge. Free breakfast -with coffee, tea, milk, a small selection of cereals, toast, bagels, and an automatic pancake maker- comes with the room. Checking in and out was easy and fast. A few negatives: Front desk staff tended to be short and a little gruff at times. A real hassle was the loud noise from the large ice maker in the hallway that woke us up during the night when the cooling intermittently came on, or someone got ice very early in the morning . The laundry room is right next to the ice maker, and the breakfast room is also nearby. All of this together can make for a considerable noise level that sometimes begins as early as 6am. For a more quiet stay, it's best to get a room as far away as possible from this area, towards the back of the building. Overall, it was a good place to stay for a relatively short visit.

This place is very close to UCLA, The rooms are good size and the beds are comfortable. There's a microwave and frig which we didn't use. Its easy check in and check out. We enjoyed the to go breakfast bag - no dining because of covid. The staff is friendly and helpful. Free parking was included with our hotel room. The parking spots are extremely close together - so it makes parking difficult.. But most places around there charge $40.00 a day to park - so we were thankful for the free parking. We have family that lives on Wilshire so we wanted to stay close - this place was perfect.

While the hotel is convenient to UCLA, I have to admit the hotel has gone down hill. It definitely needs a paint job and an overall touch up. Staff are accommodating and helpful but our hotel room smelled of smoke this time even though no smoking is allowed inside. During COVID they have a free breakfast bag that has the basics. It is one of the less expensive hotels in the area but hopefully they will update soon.

My husband and I decided to stay at the Royal Palace Westwood because of its proximity to UCLA Medical Center and after reading its reviews on safety, cleanliness, friendly staff, and the close walking distance to nearby stores and restaurants which were mostly favorable compared to many other hotels/motels we searched through. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Angel and Robert, the front desk staff, were extremely friendly and accommodating. Two of the cleaning staff ladies, one of them is Maria, were also very friendly and helpful. The suite is the best to get for a long term stay. We stayed 2 weeks and was grateful for the kitchenette with a dining table. UCLA Medical Plaza and the Ronald Reagan Hospital are a safe 10-15 minute walk away. On weekdays and during a certain time, the hospital offers complimentary shuttle service to and from RPW. Ralph’s, Target, and Trader Joe’s is just a 5-7 minute walk down the block. There are a lot of homeless around though but they generally leave you alone. There are also several restaurants you can walk to around Westwood Village but after 7:30 at night, l was more weary of my surroundings. Westwood Village (which RPW is a part of) has a mix of UCLA students, upper middle class residents, and visitors from neighboring districts: many who play loud music from their cars, rev their engines and smoke weed. The occasional smell of marijuana hits you all throughout LA—be it while walking outside or passing through the hallways of the hotel. However, after reading countless reviews of numerous hotels/motels in the same price range as RPW, it’s something you can’t avoid in LA. Probably the only two negative parts of the stay is the sometimes weak wi-fi connection, and the very tight parking (but it’s free). You need to be very careful driving in and out of the parking area as we almost scraped our vehicle on the wall and once we were parked near other vehicles, there was very little room to open the car doors. The sideview mirrors also had to be pushed in to avoid damage. Overall though, my husband and I do plan on returning to Royal Palace Westwood if we ever need to return to UCLA Medical Plaza and Hospital.

Response from Mark B, Manager at Royal Palace Westwood
Responded Feb 4, 2020
Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay at the Royal Palace Westwood Hotel. I am very happy to hear that you found the quality of your experience to be superb. We strive to exceed the expectations of each and every guest and glad to hear your positive comments about your stay. On free parking and no resort fees, that goes to our philosophy of being a value hotel and not having to do something just because most of our competitor hotels are doing so. We are looking to the long term and have quite a number of repeat guests. Just feel this is the better way to go then "nickel and dimeing" guests for everything and only thinking about today and the short-term. Thank you for your business.

Place is immediately next to Denny's Restaurant. Parking is a bit odd. There are tandem stalls in front of the Hotel. You need to leave your keys at the front desk if you park in outside stalls. There are also around a dozen diagonal narrow stalls on the right side of the hotel that can be used. The place does not look impressive at all. Not a great reception area and a small elevator. When you get to the rooms however, you will find a large room, two queen sie beds, a nice table, and a sink and refrigerator. tt looks dated but satisfactory but what is impressive is the new upgraded bathroom. (It looks out of place so I am surmising that they just upgraded all of the bathrooms only at this time.) You'll get free internet, a quiet room in a great neighorhood with Target and Trader Joe's a few minutes walk away. i had to go to the UCLA Medical Center and while I drove to it for my appointment, I walked it the night before, a 15 to 20 minute safe walk.

After a horrible day and a fiasco at another hotel, I was greeted by Jazmin (Sorry if I spelled your name wrong...already forgot if it was spelled with an S or Z) at the front desk. She was professional and welcoming. The check-in process was quick, with no surprise fees (i.e. resort fee, deposit or valet). She even offered to upgrade my room, but I was content with the room by the front desk. The room was quaint, clean and cozy. Just what I needed after a rather stressful day with a lot of dead ends. The bed was comfortable and the tv was way bigger than my tv at home. Definitely will be staying here when back in town.

Walking distance to many shops and the village. Can get to UCLA campus in about 20 minutes walk. The hotel is fine. Staff accommodating. Nothing fancy but the room was a decent size for four people. The elevator is ridiculously small but we walked up to our 2nd floor room. Free breakfast is offered. We were there for 3 mornings and each time the muffins and pastries were stale. The bagels, yogurts, eggs, other breads, drinks and cereals were fine though. Would stay again.
