My wife and I stayed at Mama’s in mid-June. We were down in Hollywood to see my son who was in a play for The Fringe Festival. We really enjoyed Mama’s! Every single staff person there was friendly, approachable, and made us feel totally at home. I think this is a credit to their training program and the types of people they hire in the first place. Even though Mama’s seems to be focused on a younger demographic, we never noticed any difference in treatment toward us as (older, lol) adults or felt out of place being there. Also, the food was delicious and all of the servers were very personable at the rooftop bar (we went 3 different times). Plus, the breakfast items at the downstairs restaurant (as well as the servers) were all excellent. The room was very cool--sort of industrial rock chic, including script copies of The Big Lebowski and Keith Richards' autobiography, "Life." GREAT shower with a full-pressure ceiling rain head! Bed was super comfy. Although the windows didn't open for fresh air, there was enough air flow with the internal system. Everything was clean and it was a great resting-up spot for our adventures in Hollywood/LA. One thing to keep in mind: The rooftop bar has pretty loud music; it is a really cool spot and attracts a lot of people to come hang out and party at night. (We did for one of the nights.) If you are a light sleeper, it's best to ask for a room on a lower floor when you book, like we did. Staff were very accommodating and informative about both the sound level and also about the neighborhood (walkability, etc.) Thanks again for a great experience. We’ll definitely be back! 😎…
Awesome place near Hollywood boulevard (walking distance) Totally loved this hotel, would recommend to all my friends and family, staff is super friendly, decoration is beautiful and the rooftop rocks! If you are a guest staying at the hotel they instantly put you top on the waiting list for the rooftop, wich has a great demand Great clean rooms and has an interactive TV system, very cool (thanks for having adult films selection LOL)
The menu doesnot have many option on the rooftop. However, we ordered the boughie fries and the bsst was the lollipop chicken. The rooftop is nice however, wud appreciate if they clean the glass regularly. The ambience is 5/5. The staff is very friendly will visit again for sure.
Upon arrival, we could not understand the people at the reception desk because of the noise they were making at the bar !! Nice Hotel, but very noisy rooms Not recommended for business people. :( I will definitely never return here !!
My friend reccomended this place to us, we never would have found it without being reccomended it as its not really easy to find or well advertised. We visited the roof top bar, the drinks were delicious! Sadly I didnt take much on the food menu so we didnt eat but the staff were lovely and the drinks were spot on.
I stayed there with my 16 yo daughter for 4 nights and we just loved everything, from the guys the reception, they were really nice and helpful, the waiters in the rooftop, the security guy at the elevator, everyone was so nice to us, we speak english, but we are from Chile so it was great that some of them speak spanish too. About our room, it didn´t had a view, but we spent a lot of time outside, and it was clean and the bed was really confortable, so it was good for us. We arrived before the check in time, so the girl in the reception stored our luggage until our room was ready, so we were able to take a walk around while we wait. I read a review talking about the noise, we didn't have any problems with that. I love the hotel and I hope we can go again.
We truly enjoyed a 3 night stay at Mama LA. Ideally located in the heart of WeHo, the typical spirit you can expect from Mama Shelter is definitely here !! The building itself provides a great rooftop standing over Hollywood and large enough to host great dj sets on Sunday night ! The food offer comes with hispanic influences : it definitely works. The very friendly staff delivers a very warm and fluid service, the daily front desk in particular. Leave any negativity behind you once you step in at Mama La. They'll bring you into their careful, comfy, and playful world. This stay already left a mark in my memories. Thank you !
Paul and Charmaine at the front desk went way above and beyond to get us checked in early! 10/10 would recommend to a friend and will stay when visiting LA again!!! Amazing rooms with an amazing roof deck. Didn’t get to the restaurant this visit but food looked amazing.
If you want to party at a night club and not sleep? THIS is your place!!! If you want to stay at a hotel and enjoy your vacation and relax?? Stay far far away from this place. As some of these reviews mention, Mama Shelter cares way more about being a night club than a hotel. Just trying to check in to the hotel is like getting into an exclusive night club. We literally had to elbow our way (and get elbowed by others) just to get inside the hotel. Then we had to push our way through a practical mosh-pit just to get to the guest elevators. When I raised my concerns about our hellish and ridiculous weekend (which I won't go into detail here on), the General Manager, Andrew Jay, wrote me back immediately and said..."We appreciate your feedback". I literally LOL'd when I got his ridiculous response. This GM runs a great nightclub but has no clue how to take care of hotel guests. No apology. No acknowledgment. No offer to improve. Nothing. Don't spend your money here. You deserve to be treated like a hotel guest. I should close by saying if you're a Mama Shelter fan like I am, the Los Angeles hotel is NOTHING like any of the other properties across Europe. Don't do it. Save the money and fly to Paris and stay at Mama Shelter Paris where they actually care about the humans staying inside.…
I will cut right to it. I write this review from my hotel room at Mama Shelter. The staff is great. Very pleasant. Very helpful. The food this time around was... meh. Which was surprising because the one time I ate here before, the food was great, which made me want to stay here for my next LA trip. This is that trip and staying here was a mistake. The rooms are not soundproof. Not only can I hear the corny frat bro conversation of my neighbors. I can clearly hear the music from the rooftop. It's like trying to fall asleep in the middle of a club. Besides me flying in from the East Coast so I'm not in sync with the times zone, the music is not even enticing me to want to go join. Did I hear Destiny Child's Bills Bills Bills? Who did the DJ blackmail for this job? Who's playlist is this? The music starts around 7pm and doesn't end until 2am ish. I really hate to write this review knowing how hard the pandemic has been on the hospitality industry, but this is a nightmare for anyone looking for a relaxing room to sleep in. To be more complete in my review I'll give some other highlights. The location is great. Very walkable and electric scooters are everywhere for longer commutes. The room itself is great. Comfortable bed, clean. Housekeeping is as requested rather than automatic. Which I'm fine with. There are unhoused people nearby but this is LA. They have a significant issue with the unhoused like... every other major US city. I do not believe they pose a threat or make the area unsafe. Just sad to see, honestly. But Mama Shelter has all the booze and obnoxiously loud music to drown out your sorrows. Would not recommend anyone to stay in the hotel but would definitely come back for the restaurant and nightclub, which is what this place really is.…
