We love The Garland and have stayed here for many years! With new Covid guidelines, this hotel did a fantastic job making us feel safe and went over and above all protocols. SUPER friendly staff! Cleanliness and nostalgic decor are THE BEST!

Lovely hotel, comfortable, clean. Great atmosphere. Good Food and friendly staff. Only slight negative was car park was expensive and not the best location of you wish to travel to beaches. However great access to Universal Studios, Hollywood and Downtown LA.

The hotel and grounds were resort level. The room was recently upgraded and tastefully decorated with all of the expected amenities for the price. The hotel staff from the parking to check in and during the stay were excellent. For background, I was staying at a hotel since my AC was broken and Apt was 90 degrees (and my puppy had just had her spay surgery) so was in emergency need of somewhere to stay. We only left because the nightly rate was skyrocketing for a special weekend event so we checked into a Marriott which was a very disappointing experience compared to this hotel which was less expensive and provides exponentially better custom service and facilities.

We stayed at The Garland for 4 nights as part of a self guided tour of the west coast. The hotel is a vibe, like being in the 70’s but with mod cons. The beds were so comfy and our room was large with a balcony. I even loved the hole in the shower screen so you could reach in and get your shower temperature right before you stepped in. There was a lovely patio area where people sat and drank or ate and on one occasion I heard a singer there. We didn’t use any of the amenities as we had a full schedule apart from the shuttle to Universal which was handy. The shop is not your usual hotel shop where you can purchase brand drinks and snacks. The shop sold hand crafted goods including beers and snacks. Because of this I thought it was expensive. There isn’t much around the hotel but a 10 minute walk away there is a Walgreens where we got our snacks and water. Near Walgreens is a lovely cafe called Vivian’s millennium cafe. Give it a go as a change from the hotel restaurant. The hotel is away from the bustle of Hollywood but near enough with a 7 minute taxi ride.

We stopped here for 4 nights at the end of our road trip. Good check in, friendly staff, room serviced daily by friendly staff and lots to do on site. Pool, spa pool, table top football, games and quizzes and and an array of planned tours and walks. The nightly movie by the pool was a big hit with us after a hectic day in LA and gave us chance to unwind and relax. Rooms are modern, relatively small in comparison to others we experienced in California but adequate. We did get a rather snotty letter from the management team for hanging out washing out on the balcony lol! And warned not to do it again as they had an on-site laundrette. Shiitake bus was free and would take you to Universal in a few minutes (and collect hourly) or take you to the tram stop if requested. Would return if in the area.

Visited the garland as part of a 3 city visit and I have to say staying here spoilt our holiday I found the staff cold, rude and quite ignorant at times and feel the customer service and care courses must have been cancelled. We arrived at 9 and were told in no uncertain terms our rooms were not ready and to go and sit somewhere 5 hours later we were still sat there even though other guests were arriving and getting allocated rooms. We had to chase numerous times and eventually got to our room at 2:30. The rooms and hotel are very clean and well positioned for universal studios, but you are in the middle of nowhere. With no other bars, restaurants or supermarkets within walking distance. We visited the restaurant and again the food was not hot took over an hour to arrive and in every restaurant I have visited around the world have always had someone come and ask how is your meal. NOT at the garland though. They very kindly put a film on at 20:00 around the pool, but when shameless turns up running round the pool screaming shouting, jumping on all the beds and nothing gets said it was time to move which we did. There were 2 of the staff I would like to thank for being very good one was the barman Jarvid the other were the cleaning lady who kept our room spotless. I would not use this hotel EVER again and was glad to get away from there. When leaving, the staff never had the courtesy to ask how was my stay, they asked the gentleman next to me who said it was average at best, and then they just ignored him. My advice look for somewhere closer to town.

The Garland was recommended by Trailfinders and it was a great option to stay in! Very good comfortable rooms with balconies, great food at the restaurant The Front Yard (which local people come to a lot) and the opportunity to buy food to go and eat in The Courtyard area, by the pool or in your room. We stayed for 3 nights (it was a heatwave at the time but A/C great in room). Lovely staff and concierge based in the shop was excellent. It’s a very good location if you are visiting Universal Studios. We only had two full days so didn’t as you need a full day at least! Can recommend Ubering to The Pantages Theatre to see a show (in the early days of The Oscars it hosted the ceremony for 10 years). Also Paramount Studios - tour is 2 hours. And I thoroughly recommend The Huntington Library, Gallery and Gardens near Pasadena. Everywhere is an Uber away - but nowhere is very far. The Garland is in North Hollywood and it felt like a wee oasis in the middle of a heatwave. Would definitely go back.

If they hadn't lied about accessible rooms, the stay would have been absolutely perfect and I would have given 5 stars. The hotel is super cute, the trolley is adorable and so convenient to go to the metro and Universal. The room was very comfortable. Two weeks before my trip, I broke my foot. Super unfortunate. As soon as I knew that I couldn't walk for a while, I called the hotel and explained the situation and asked them if I could get an ADA-accessible room what they call a 2 queen deluxe accessible. The website said the room had a shower with a bench and rail. I cannot put weight on my broken foot so I cannot stand in the shower. The staff was so nice and told me that they would put us in one of those rooms. I was so relieved. We get there, check in and again they confirm that we have the accessible room. We get to the room and it is a standard shower. Nothing was accessible about it, there was a tiny step to get, no rail, no bench, and the shower head wasn't handheld or adjustable. We go to the front desk and explain the situation and ask if we were put in an accessible room, they said we were and didn't know what happened. Then, a manager (I think) came and asked what was wrong, so I told him that our shower is not accessible and I need something to sit on to shower. He was so nice and got us a chair to add to the shower until we can find a better solution. He told us that this was a temporary fix. Fast forward to the day after, we haven't heard anything. Every time we go back to the front desk to ask for an update, they are all unaware of the issue, so it seems like nothing was communicated or done about it. I asked this woman at the front desk and she tells us she has a room with a tub that might be better, she sends me with an employee to go see if and see if I like it. So I go all the way there and the room is the exact same one that I have (same shower, no tub). It felt like an absolute joke and a waste of my time. I left and went back to the front desk later, hoping to talk to someone different. So we go back a few hours later, explain the whole situation again and that's when they finally tell us that we were never placed in an accessible room (so they lied to us at check-in), that the hotel only had one accessible room and it was booked. They told us that when the guest checked in, if they didn't really need it, they would call us and let us have it. No one ever called us. Honestly, I get it, they only had one room but what bothers me is that they lied to me and told me we had an accessible room and then they kept telling us to wait and never reached out. I wished they would have been honest from the start and said: listen, we only have one accessible room in the whole hotel and it is booked, sorry about that, here is a chair for the shower. The communication is what bothers me, especially about something as important as the accessibility of the room. Now, the absolute highlight of the trip was Jorge who drove the shuttle. I had concerns about getting on it, since there were 4 steps to climb aboard and I cannot go up stairs. The front desk lady was so unhelpful about it and pretty much was saying I was out of luck. I think she thought I was faking my injury because she took none of my concerns seriously, but I cannot put weight on my right foot because it is broken and it is awful to not be able to walk or stand, especially on vacation. Jorge saw me on the knee scooter and offered me to my relief, to use the lift they have for wheelchairs. Jorge was so kind and helpful, it was a pleasure to see him come pick us up every night. His genuine kindness and assistance made the difference. You have an amazing employee and I hope you recognize him for that!!
