We booked this accommodation for a 3 week stay in February of 2017. First, the room was not furnished as it appears in the photos. (See our photos.) It's a converted garage with a sliding glass door with an entrance at the back of the driveway. It smelled of mildew (recent flooding in LA) and still had two dehumidifiers hooked up inside the room when we arrived. There was also a huge piece of exercise equipment parked in the corner, as well as already opened and used jars of jelly waiting for us. Obviously, a quick renovation had been attempted, leaving baseboards unfinished and sheetrock exposed. And the place wasn't clean. We saw mold and immediately departed. We've been trying to get our money back from the owners ever since. Despite promises to refund our money, we've yet to see a dime. We even agreed to pay for the one night, even though we stayed only an hour. The manager and owner agreed to this via email, but still, no refund of our remaining $300.00 deposit. On to small claims court in LA. What a joy.

(This review is for the garden suite, not one of the interior rooms.) My wife and I stayed two nights at Buky, but we're still having trouble describing the place. PROS Great price for LA, good location (which will obviously vary for others, but it's centrally located), roomy, comfortable bed, and clean. The kitchen and self-serve breakfast amenities were well-done and very fully stocked--fruit, dairy, simple cereals provided. You could live (very simply) out of the Buky if you were on a budget by eating all three meals en suite. Some effort has been made to update the bathroom (albeit some of the efforts fall short). The garden area itself is a nice oasis from the street (although the neighborhood is residential and quiet) and nicely appointed--a great place to drink the morning tea or coffee. CONS The hospitality industry seems to be an afterthought to the owner (Gail's son). Communication was not great. In the lead-up to our stay, a a phone call was answered with a curt "hello?" and nothing more. We never actually met him or anyone else associated with Buky; keys are left on the table and check-in/check-out was self-serve. In another example, we tried to arrange an early check-in, which led to a Keystone Cops game of email tag instead of a simple yes or no answer. That culminated in our only parking ticket of the trip: a $73 street cleaning ticket for parking on the street for 10 minutes while we unloaded our bags. Yes, it was posted on a sign, but if you haven't driven in LA, withhold judgment until you see the parking restrictions. The point is, a more-engaged host--knowing the day and time we were checking-in--would've warned us about the only 3 hour period of the week when you can't park on the street. No such warning from Buky. In other items: the electricity in half the Garden Suite didn't work, which included the lights for the bathroom, so we did our business by the light of our cell phones. We could've mentioned it, but considering the communication track record with the host and our short stay, it didn't seem worth it. The suite itself is also a jumble of furniture and odds-and-ends, some of which works nicely (counters for kitchen stuff), some of which doesn't (an elliptical exercise machine which I'm sure could be touted as an amenity for guests, but which is really just there for the owner's use and/or being stored there). The ambiance of the garden is degraded a bit by the weight-lifting bench in the middle of the lawn furniture. The carpet feels a bit mungy and there's a slight musty smell to the place. In short, things could be worse, but they could've been a whole lot better with just a little attention to detail by the host. We had a more comfortable stay at an airbnb property just a few blocks away earlier in the week because the owner went out of his way with good communication and thought a little harder about the comfort of his guests.

Gail's place is THE perfect LA location. $5 (or less!) ride to CBS Television City, The Grove/Farmer's Market, & Hollywood Blvd. I stayed out in the Garden Room (behind the house) & my mom stayed in the purple room inside the main house. Both were good choices. Be advised that as of now, the main house rooms are upstairs (for those who have trouble with stairs, consider the Garden Room). Each day the refrigerator is stocked with yogurt, milk & orange juice. Fresh bread and fruit are provided each day and you can eat when you want to fix it. Great option for anyone "on the go". Just FYI, the Garden Room has its own refrigerator/toaster/mini kitchen. Gail was easy to work with and fun to visit with. There was a good combination of conversation and privacy. I would definitely recommend this place!

This is a very quaint and cozy B&B in the heart of LA. Had a nice coffee and some treats in the morning, and a very good quiet night's sleep. I would reccoment this highly to anyone visiting for a night or two in the local area.

We loved the neighborhood and stay. We didn't stay too much at the Bed and Breakfast, but the neighborhood, restaurants near by and entertainment was very easy to get to and top of class. Gail, the owner of this BB, was very sweet and took very good care of us. We immediately felt at home and the room was spacious and comfortable. We just needed internet and we got it. All in all, if you are staying near the hancock park area, this is a very lovely time here and place to stay and feel safe.
