Moxy Downtown Los Angeles has received mixed reviews, with guests praising its prime location near downtown attractions and the cleanliness of its modern aesthetic. However, some guests consider it overpriced, noting additional fees and limited amenities. While the service is often highlighted for its excellence, the compact and noisy rooms, lacking in soundproofing, have drawn criticism, particularly from business travelers seeking quiet. The hotel's lively atmosphere and rooftop bar add to its youthful appeal, but the noise level can detract from the experience for those looking for relaxation.

The Moxi Hotel in downtown Los Angeles left a slightly bittersweet taste in my mouth. One of the few points that I liked was the location, right next to the Los Angeles Convention Center and the Crypto.com arena, where you can see concerts, shows or sporting events. Its location is very convenient if you are going to see an event. Besides that I don't see anything good about the hotel. The valet parking service was good but very expensive, for breakfast there is a buffet service, the food did not seem recommendable to me (although they had a tea and coffee service in the lobby that was very limited). My biggest problem with the Moxi hotel was the room, it was very small. You might call me old-fashioned for my preference for traditional hotel rooms, but what they call “smart rooms” I call a tight room. They had very little storage space and a confusing lighting system.
My stay at the Moxi hotel left me with a “bittersweet” feeling, although it seems that I had a lot of discomfort, the location seems very important to me, which makes my opinion improve by a lot.

Came to Moxy LA for the week, for a conference at the LACC. This isn’t my first time at a Moxy location, so I was prepared for the non-traditional room layouts - as discussed in other reviews. Where the Moxy product lacks, it definitely makes up for in the experience. This location is almost a full service resort, with various entertainment opportunities and retail. This product is definitely for those that are looking for a lively, eccentric (and sexy) ‘vibe’. Located steps from the LACC in Central Downtown LA, it’s convenient for anyone traveling on business, our group didn’t need to book rental cars since we walked everywhere.

Unfortunately, I did have a less than subpar experience with “Bar Moxy” where my order was placed online, and after a few frustrating communication fails with the onsite team- I went downstairs to check on the order (after over an hour of waiting). Upon arriving to the bar, I was met with cold service by both the bartender and the manager who did not have my order in at all, and their kitchen was closing. Since it was so late, and they were being so rude, I told them to forget about it.

My review was leaning towards a lower star count, however, the redeeming asset was one of the team members at the front desk, Smith. Their energy was truly contagious to guests and team members alike. Smith made my experience here without a doubt. They were eager to provide true hospitality to anyone who entered, met with a smile and such positivity. I felt comfortable asking questions about the area, to which they matched with above and beyond service. Smith, I truly hope you feel as valued as you are! You are so obviously a light in the shadow of LA darkness. Thank you thank you!

Great Hotel and Location if staying in downtown. My son stayed during the Anime Expo 2024 for the 4 days and it very convenient for him to hop back and from the convention center to the hotel whenever he needed some downtime. This location is also very close (5minute) walk to LA Live, which has shops and restaurants. He really enjoyed his stay at the Moxy.

We had a very disappointing stay at Moxy Downtown LA and would not choose to stay here again.

From the moment we arrived, the hotel entrance was poorly displayed, making it difficult to find. The biggest issue, however, was the room. It was incredibly small, leaving no space to open our suitcases, which was frustrating as we were traveling with large luggage from London to Las Vegas and then to LA. The room felt claustrophobic, and to make matters worse, the air conditioning wasn’t functioning properly. Despite reporting the issue, it was never fully resolved.

Noise was another major problem. Music from Level 8 played throughout the day and continued until around 3 AM, making it impossible to get a peaceful night’s sleep. There was also no proper breakfast option apart from a small coffee shop with no seating, which was very inconvenient. The lack of in-room amenities was surprising, and we were told to take supplies from a communal cupboard instead.

We dined at one of the restaurants on Level 8, but the food was overpriced and lacked flavor. Additionally, the swimming pool had very limited availability due to private events, which was disappointing since we were hoping to use it during our stay.

On top of all this, the location felt unsafe. We made the mistake of taking the train outside the hotel to Santa Monica, as advised by the reception staff, but were not warned about the potential dangers. This left us feeling uneasy and frustrated.

Overall, this was not a pleasant experience. With the combination of small rooms, noise issues, lack of amenities, and an uncomfortable location, we would not recommend this hotel to others.

Dear Lauren-Ann, It’s disappointing to hear that your stay did not meet expectations, as every guest should feel comfortable and at ease from arrival to departure. Our hotel is designed to offer a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, but that should never come at the expense of a restful stay. While the boutique-style rooms embrace a more efficient layout, comfort remains a priority, and it’s regrettable that the space and in-room features did not align with your needs. The city’s dynamic energy is part of the experience, but a balance with relaxation is essential, and feedback like yours helps refine that balance. Your perspective is truly valued, and we appreciate the time taken to share your thoughts. Peace + Love + MOXY, Steve Choe Captain

This Moxy hotel is a modern, clean, place conveniently located across the street from the Los Angeles Convention Center. And for convention goers, that's the extent of the Moxy's advantages.

The Moxy bills itself as "hipster hotel" and touts all the really cool dining and nightclub experiences it has as part of the hotel complex. The "AC Hotel" and the Moxy are both owned by Marriott and the distinction between the two is rather superfluous as they're in the same building. Both hotels share access to the same eateries and amenities. The rooms in the AC however, are much larger and more useful.

In exchange for being "hip," the Moxy's hotel rooms are small. In fact, they're tiny. There's no closets, no wardrobes, and not even any towel racks. There are some clothes hangers dangling from straps along the wall. But, there's no coffee maker in the rooms, no mini-fridge, and no place to sit either.

The bathroom sink isn't in the bathroom as there's no separate bathroom to begin with. Instead, there are just two stalls - one for the shower and one for the toilet. The sink is in the entryway to the room. It's all quite functional and compact - if you've almost no luggage and are staying there but briefly.

For the room rates charged, I expected more.

And those dining and entertainment options sound nice but most only are open later in the evening. If you're expecting a nice sit down meal at about dinner time then you're out of luck. As for breakfast? It's buffet only and located in the Marriott next door. There is a coffeeshop attached to the lobby of the Moxy. But it closes at 2PM which is very odd as there's no nearby coffeeshops to take up the slack.

The parking is onsite and valet only. And it's expensive. It does offer in/out access but that doesn't seem worth the daily fee.

Lastly, the place is loud. The rooms lack much sound proofing and seem to magnify any conversations taking place in the hallways. If your room is on the south or west sides of the building then you're also like to have the noise coming from the "Level 8" dining and entertainment places there. These are open air venues so the sound they make radiates up quite ways.

I've stayed at both the AC and the Moxy while attending an event at the LA Convention Center. I'm very unlikely to be back again. I chose the Moxy this year as it was marginally less expensive than the AC but given the exceptionally small and limited room size I did not win on value with my choice. And given the limitations of the facilities overall, I'm pretty sure I can do much better at one of the many other hotels nearby.

Dear Madocp, Thank you for sharing such a detailed review. We're sorry to hear that your recent experience with us left you feeling disappointed. While we strive to create a vibrant, modern atmosphere for our guests, we understand that the compact room design and limited amenities might not suit everyone’s needs, especially for those expecting more space and convenience. The noise levels and dining options, particularly for those seeking meals earlier in the evening, also seem to have impacted your stay, and we regret that we didn’t meet your expectations for value. We appreciate your feedback as it helps us understand where we can improve. Thanks for choosing us. We wish you safe travels. Peace + Love + MOXY, Steve Choe Captain

Not on par with other Marriott properties and not good for families.
1. The pool is not a real amenity and is often closed for bar events. The bar and pool are the same place and the bar can’t function as a bar while the pool is open. On the weekends the pool is managed by an outside company and you have to pay extra to use it. Anyone with kids thinking this or the AC next door are family friendly, beware if your child has their heart set on swimming.
2. Super slow elevators. They are shared with the AC for some floors so with any amount of people, it becomes a waiting game to do anything.
3. Super loud. If you are in a convention center view room, be prepared for loud music from the bar at night until after 11:30. We don’t mind noise but this was a lot.
4. The staff here is so nice and accommodating if you need anything but they can’t do anything about these things. I will stay at other Marriott’s but not here and not a Moxy again.

I’m not sure if it’s the Moxy brand, the sketchy neighborhood, the time of the year or the crowds but based on my NYE experience at this property, I doubt I will ever stay at a Moxy anywhere again.

As noted by others, the room is tiny and very poorly designed, check-in is confusing and poorly thought out, music is LOUD from the hotel bar/club, lighting is way too dim and the vibe is clearly aimed at the younger than 30 crowd. While I am older, the Moxy concept sounded cool but really disappointed at its execution.

On the positive side, the location is convenient to LA Live, entrance to the Grammy museum is included with the (scam) “amenity fee” and close to a metro station with service to Santa Monica.

Finally, we left a jacket in the bar downstairs for about 10 mins., but when we came back down to retrieve it, it had mysteriously disappeared. That alone speaks volumes about this property and some of its clientele.
Know what the Moxy is all about before booking a room!

We booked our wedding block here, with a signed contract last July. What a giant mistake that was. Never book a room block here!! They said we would have rooms for our guests at a specified price that they would honor 3 days before and after when we needed the block.

When guests went to book, there were no rooms available during the 3 days prior or after. However if you went through non wedding booking or there regular website, there was plenty of rooms available….just at a way higher price. They told us these rooms were unavailable for our wedding block. How does that make sense if you’re literally selling them to other people for higher.

So they essentially scammed us with this contract that we ended up getting out of, and caused us so much stress during our wedding planning during an already hectic time when we thought everything was squared away. Never book an event here or you’ll be extremely disappointed. What a terrible experience and terrible customer service.

This was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in a long time. There is no way this should be considered a 4 star hotel. The rooms are tiny. They do not have closets. They do not have bathrooms. They have a tiny room with a toilet in it. Next to that is a shower. The sink is in the bedroom right when you walk in. The elevators broke down within half an hour of our arrival. It is impossible to get a hold of anyone at the front desk when you call, all you get is the machine.

On top of that, they lure you in saying you get a $30 credit each night you stay. What that actually means is they charge your card $30 per night whether you spend money on the overpriced food at their bar or not.

Absolutely abysmal and a joke of a hotel. Stay away.

Like W, I did not expect this hotel to be my kind of vibe, but I did expect it to be a decent hotel. I may have been mistaken on that.

The front door is poorly marked, and the lobby is poorly lit.

The front desk staff were fine, and I did get upgraded to a corner room. Unfortunately, it's floor-to-ceiling windows, and they left the curtains open. So it was hot in the room, with the air conditioner having been plugging away for hours trying to keep up. Negative on trying to save the planet.

The room can best be described as a youth hostel for rich people. Imagine your own personal public bathroom plus a space with a bed in it.

The pipe thing with the TV and stuff looks cool until you try to use it. Items that I hung got in the way when walking by. The lights couldn't be pointed in useful directions.

The larger open space was on the side of the bed opposite the door, making it nigh impossible to get a bag into. In any case, the floor was the only place to put bags. The situation might get tough with two people.

There was no table big enough for me to properly put my laptop while using it.

As others have described, loud, thumping music until late into the evening made it tough to get to sleep.

This place is probably acceptable if you're just looking for a place to sleep. But there are cheaper places to do that. And, if you're staying with someone, you had better be really close because the shower opens directly into the room.
