I guess this hotel is for a certain crowd. I think you'll either like the place or be annoyed by it. I think I fell under the 2nd group. I was solo so I didn't mind the odd fishbowl shower design, but I can't imagine how non-couples are supposed to be comfortable here. The rooftop area is kinda hard to get to but its an old place. What was wierd was that unless someone was there to open a door I found myself knocking and knocking to get someone's attention or waiting for someone to come down to open the door. I think they finally put a door jam to keep the door open. Service is also a bit spotty. Front desk is what you'd expect but I don't know if everyone got the memo. Here is a story i had, I went into the elevator and I was going up. Afterward, a dude who was working in the hotel came in inserted his override key into the elevator, and sent the lift all the way down to the maintenance level. I looked at him like "are you serious?" and he looked at me and shrugged his shoulders like "tough luck bro", and went his way. When i came in late with luggage they didn't have anyone to greet you at the door or help as i think i had to go to their alternate entrance which is not really helpful with the luggage. Experiences like this and others just gave me a vibe that the hotel is a bit comfortable with its rooftop, laid back, cheeky approach to hospitality. Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned. On the positive side: If you are coming here for the very cool rooftop then its your place. The roof is the staff of the hotel and meets the hype. The location is good, the price is relatively ok and the front desk did their job.…
I have been coming to the Standard for a long time for brunch, and Jesus Meza is the man to go to in the restaurant on the main floor. Besides the amazing cappucinos and bacon, the service is always excellent. After 5 years, its still my favorite breakfast spot.
Thank you Standard for making my stay awesome. I’m not sure why but I was surprised with a nice bottle of wine and snacks when I checked in and a note from Jordan in Guest Experience. This little touch made my stay extra special. The rooms are spacious and food is really good. Rosco from room service was super friendly and delivered my order a timely manner. Thank you again stand for your hospitality.
Alex and Yousef were so amazing in helping us get into our room. Free upgrade and early check in!!! They were so kind and patient even in a very stressful time. thank you both for making our experience so great.
Arrived on the 11th for a short stay prior to going on a cruise. Unfortunately the cruise was cancelled as part of the Corona virus scare and we are having to fly home. Alex on the front desk has been amazing - from printing travel documents to ensuring we had the latest up to date information, he has been professional, concerned - every thing we've needed at this difficult time. Five stars for Alex and the hotel is great as well - result
Recently on my trip to the standard I was greeted by a fella named Jordan Stone & Taizja Tate from Guest Experience. They were both so friendly, polite and well groomed. Being in the fashion industry I take notice in the small details such as, style, grooming and personal maintenance. They told me about all the happenings in LA and some of the best healthy options for my vegan lifestyle. We chatted over light snacks and chilled wine. Such a great first experience at the Hotel. I’m looking forward to making it my west coast home.
I went to the Standard to check out the rooftop but was saddened as it was closed due to the weather. The lobby looks like to be going under some sort of construction so it was hard to find the entrance but we were stopped on the second floor by Jordan from Guest Experience. He greeted us with champagne and treats while Taizja played a great set of fun tunes. Although we really wanted to check out the roof the energy and vibe provided on the second floor was super fun and we will definitely be back in the future.
Despite the recent scares of traveling, we chose to continue our stay at The Standard. Nice, cozy with a friendly staff. A little noisy in the AM but it’s to be expected as they are currently under renovation. The food in the 24 hour restaurant was delicious! Especially the pancakes. Love! Special thanks to Jesus, Taizja, Jordan & Mike for making our stay that much more enjoyable. Cannot wait to come back and see what the new hotel looks when they are finished. Thanks to The Standard and team!
I would suggest going here to anyone who visits The Standard in downtown LA —PAIRINGS was an absolute vibe from the space, music, hors d’oeuvres & complimentary wine. The host was an absolute delight very caring & attentive. My only suggestion would be better signage to find this wonderful place.
I had a great time visiting The Standard! Kailyn was very kind, helpful, and sociable in helping me navigate and understand L.A. I'm so grateful to have met here during my visit. I also had a great time during the pairing with the spirits and delicious roasted duck hosted by Jamar! He was very fun, upbeat, and knowledgeable on the culture of the city. I look forward to visiting The Standard again!
