Just returned from a sisters trip to Los Angeles. Our main reason for the trip was to visit the Japanese American National Museum. The Miyako was in a perfect location for our visit. It is basically right across the street. We loved our short 2 night stay but agreed we would love to go back and stay there again. Every employee we came in contact with was so nice and engaging. Francis and Cesar were especially helpful and true assets to the hotel. Francis went out of his way to make sure to honor our request for a quiet room. Didn't catch the names of the other employees but everyone was great! The rooms were spacious with lots of counter space in the bedroom and bathroom. The beds were very comfy and the pillows were the best I ever had. I have a hard time finding a good pillow. I wish I would have asked what kind they use! The bathrooms have bath & body products in large sharing size containers. The toilets have bidets on them. The only small issue was the shower. It blasts water out like a fire hose with no way to tone it down. They also offer their own branded water bottles in the rooms for $1.50 each. Just let them know how many you drink. Not sure who makes it, but my sister claims it's the best bottled water ever. They have a nicely filled self service snack & drink store in the lobby. There is a coffee & pastry cafe in the lobby as well. We loved our stay. We can't wait to visit again. Thanks Miyako!!

This was a wonderful base for exploring Little Tokyo and the rest of LA. The hotel is wonderfully clean and conveniently located steps from the Little Tokyo metro station. Tons of great restaurants are within walking distance, and it's a short walk to the Arts District. Service is attentive (daily maid service is scrupulous -- and far superior to the current state of most chain hotels). Rooms have refrigerators, which is great since it's so easy to stop at the Japanese market nearby for snacks. Room size is comfortable. I felt very safe walking around solo.

This Asian theme hotel is located in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. It is very convenient to great authentic Japanese eateries all located across the street or down the block to the plaza of shops and restaurants. The historical and must-see Japanese American National Museum is located down the block.
The room needs updating and the desk/furniture needs refurbishing. However, overall the room is simply furnished and functional.
The Speakman bidet is the best feature of the room!
In the lobby area is a little breakfast bakery with cute novelty pastries.
We had a room on the 3rd floor away from the street. The room was on top of the parking garage and faced another garage. No view at all, but it was quiet. If you are staying on a weekday, I believe it may be better to have a street view because the street is probably quieter than on the weekend. At least, you would have a better view than facing a parking garage.
Ask for a room above the 3rd floor.
The self-service laundry room is convenient too.
Public transportation is nearby. The hotel is walking distance to Union Station. However, if you arrive at night, do not walk as the area is not safe at night.
I highly recommend this hotel for its convenient location in Little Tokyo.

I tried to cancel the reservation 48 hours before check-in per hotel rules. I had to go through Booking.com to contact the hotel. I informed the hotel that my wife was ill and due to the coronavirus emergency we had decided to cancel. the hotel refused the cancellation and charged us for a no-show. The hotel stated that they had a 24 hour cancellation policy, but I contacted Booking.com prior to 24 hours. When I tried to email the hotel about the problem they immediately charged my credit card, even before the reservation time. This hotel has terrible customer service, especially during an emergency. There are better choices in LA that will treat you better - stay away.

I was disappointed at my 1-week stay. I was given room 621 as I reserved a deluxe room which guarantees a room above Level 5. Despite them not full at the time of my visit, they gave me this room which faces a multi storey carpark. I had to draw the curtain the whole time to avoid being viewed from the carpark.

The aircon in this room was the noisiest I had ever experienced in any hotels. Pls send someone to the room and wait for it to turn on and off by itself and feel the difference in the noise level. It was still possible to sleep if the noise was constant but the fact that the aircon generates huge noise each time it turns itself on and stays quiet when it is off automatically to adjust the temperature makes it impossible to use the aircon at night. Also check how much dust was accumulated on the aircon. It seemed to me that the aircon had not been serviced for an extended period of time.

The pillows were extremely uncomfortable. They gave three non-standard (small) pillows per bed and they were too high and not soft. The bed was also uncomfortable. I sinked in the mattress despite me being less than 50kg. I had a hard time sleeping every night because of this (and the aircon problem.)

There is something looking like a phone charger (as part of the alarm clock) on the bedside table. However, it seems to fit only very old iphone models (iphone 4 maybe.) There are no USB A or USB C chargers near the bed. I had to use the sockets on the desk (and my adaptor) to charge my phone which was inconvenient.

On a positive note, the room was clean. Housekeeping staff occasionally forgot to replenish bathroom amenities and (chargeable) bottled water but it was not a problem for me.

I was planning a staycation in the Little Tokyo and northern Arts District areas of Los Angeles and stayed here for the first time. It's a very well-located property that's minimalist but clean and well-maintained. There aren't many hotels in this area; probably the main one is the Doubletree by Hilton that's 2 blocks away. Miyako is adjacent to the block-long pedestrian-only Japanese Village Plaza, perhaps the epicentre of LIttle Tokyo, along with Weller Court a block away. The northern part of the Arts District, with its well-regarded restaurants, is about 3 blocks away.

The Miyako is perhaps now best known as the hotel with the superstar LA Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani mural on the side. Look for a QR code located in several spots to see Shohei take a swing with his bat. Looking at the front of the hotel, one can easily see the higher-floor rooms are larger. All rooms have a mini-fridge, coffee maker and Japanese-style toilet. My room was clean and comfortable, facing north with views of City Hall, multiple ramen restaurants and the Japanese American National Museum.

The hotel has a fitness centre and self-serve laundromat. There's a cute bakery/café on the ground level that serves Instagrammable sweet and savory treats. There's also a mini-market with microwaves, hot water and self-check-out. On the 2nd floor is a sit-down Japanese restaurant/sushi bar and a cocktail/karaoke lounge. The restaurant has a daily breakfast buffet for around $28 with Japanese and Western offerings.

Overall a great stay. I've previously stayed at the Hilton, which is of course the hotel of choice for Hilton Honors members. But it's larger and more generic, with little Japanese ambience, aside from their Kyoto Garden rooftop, a vestige of when the hotel was the New Otani with its Thousand Cranes restaurant that overlooked the garden. The Miyako definitely has a more Japanese vibe, plus a slightly better location.

The hotel it’s so pretty and clean, staff is really friendly, my room was clean. Hotel is right next to the Japanese village plaza (little Tokyo) everything is walking distance. Their check in time is at 3pm but we arrived earlier like 11:30am and the staff was super nice and let us leave our luggage in a room while we went out to the plaza to eat something while we were waiting for our room. We had the best time and will definitely be back! Thank you so much

The problem lies in the way the staff handled our requests. Remus, Francis, and another Filipino staff member - ALL OF YOU WERE VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! You made things difficult for your fellow Filipino guests.

When we arrived, we asked for a room with a double bed. The staff informed us that the hotel was fully booked and suggested we check back in a few days since we were staying for 5 nights. Despite following up with them daily, they kept telling us it was fully booked. I had actually requested a rollaway mattress via email with the hotel a month before our arrival and it was approved. However, Remus rejected the request, citing fire hazard concerns, and claimed he needed to check with the manager. He also mentioned that even if he did check, it wouldn't be allowed. In the end, Remus never updated us on whether he had spoken to the manager and instead offered blankets for us to use on the floor.

The next day, due to the unbearable conditions of sleeping on the floor, I approached the hotel staff again and spoke to Hugo, who was the only one who seemed to care. After showing him the email from Miyako approving the rollaway bed, he promptly arranged for it to be provided.

In another incident, I politely asked a hotel staff member for a pair of slippers and was rudely told that they only provide them to guests staying above the 8th floor. I chose not to argue and left. I found this treatment of hotel guests to be quite unpleasant, especially when I saw a guest on the 4th floor being given hotel slippers while we were staying on the 8th floor.

Lastly, we had to repeatedly request a refill of our shower gel, which took 2 hours to arrive. All these Filipino staff members made things difficult for us. Our vacation could have been perfect if it weren't for how we were treated at the hotel. We selected your hotel based on positive reviews, but unfortunately, I cannot highly recommend it. It doesn't even deserve a one-star rating!

I was extremely disappointed how the Miyako handled a situation where one of our gift bags was thrown away by the staff. I get it, accidents happen, but the staff could not have been more rude or less understanding. At first, the lady who worked at the front desk was very nice and let me know that we couldn't look through the garbage because the trash had already been taken out, but she said she would speak to a manager and see how they could help. However, the next day the situation completely spiraled when I had to deal with Harpan, another employee who works at the front desk.
First of all, he wouldn't let me speak directly to the manager. He kept leaving our conversation to go "consult" but never let me meet the person in charge. Then, he claimed that the reason why the manager had decided they couldn't help me is because they believed we could be lying. He assured me that none of the staff had thrown it away (having never actually asked anyone), and told me that there was nothing that they could do because it is more likely that "I had just lost it." There was about $200 worth of gifts for my girlfriend that hadn't even been opened yet, and I was absolutely willing to dig through as many trash bags as it took to find it. Still, Harpan and "the manager" refused to work with me in any sort of way and denied any responsibility for the gift bag.
I understand if there are extenuating circumstances, but claiming a customer is lying is terrible service. Would not come here again only because of the staff's treatment during this situation and the way Harpan and the manager chose to handle the aftermath. After about 30 minutes of arguing, they settled on waiving one day of parking (a whopping $30 fee) in order to get me to shut up. If the manager had handled this in a remotely considerate way (or actually talked to me), I would have no problem recommending the Miyako. Sad to see an otherwise pleasant stay ruined by the staff.

+ The hotel is placed in Little Tokio - japanese part of the city, close to restaurants and shops with an area safe for walking - as far as we saw. It includes a bakery so eating fresh breakfast was not an issue. Staff is friendly and helpfull (e.g we requested an additional bed which was solved on the spot) Rooms are clean, towels are changed whenever is needed.
If you do not wish to use the hotel parking, it can be used the LittleTokio public parking which is in the nearby building (during our stay was 30eur/day). The amount taken on hotel was as stated on booking (+250usd deposit) with NO other hidden taxes.

- The payment to the hotel (the money were blocked when we arrived and taken a second time when we left. I had to make a request to my bank to return one of the payments) Although some hotels are practicing this, it can be a problem for your vacation if you do not have double the money. I do not know why the hotel does not takes the money from initial payment.
