Stayed at the Godfrey Hollywood starting on a Saturday for three nights.
I’ll start with the good first.
- Location: Just off Sunset Blvd and is pretty convenient to most everything. With that said, it is Hollywood. It’s a strange blend of grittiness paired with $3,000/month apartments. I was able to park in a parking garage roughly four blocks away and walk back to the hotel at 11pm without being messed with (I’m a female). But if you’re a suburbanite, you might be a little uncomfortable. - Room size: very large for a hotel in an inner city location. - Cleanliness: the room and the hotel in general was spotless. My compliments to the housekeeping staff. - Staff: Generally responsive and helpful. We asked for an ironing board and iron and someone delivered it within 15 minutes.
Now for the bad:
- Atmosphere: the hotel seems to have an identity crisis. It wants to be the hip and happening place for the neighborhood which involves throwing themed dance parties at the rooftop bar. That would be fine if the party was relegated to the inside part of the bar, but it is both inside and out. Saturday night was the biggest issue as the party went to 1am. On Sunday they closed it out at 10pm which was fine, I guess but we were in a courtyard room, fifth floor, so very close to the action. Earplugs were placed in the room so the hotel knows it has a problem. The building wasn’t designed for loud parties, so management needs to pick a lane. - Pricing: we thought we had scored a killer deal on the hotel at $149/night (average) plus tax, which is extensive (16%). But once you book, you find out that they charge $35/night plus tax for an amenity fee. So basically an additional $100 for our stay. Amenity fees are pretty normal for resorts but this hotel does not qualify for that designation. Amenity fees seems to be increasingly popular with boutique hotel and small hotel chains. But the value of these fees is non-existent. It’s for wi-fi and a swimming pool, the latter which we didn’t use. Pre-COVID, amenity fees were never charged for basic amenities such as wi-fi and a pool. Once again, the hotel seems to know that they are pushing the envelope. You get a $10 food and bev voucher for each night you stay. But once again, we didn’t use these vouchers. Moral of the story: the hotel needs to be more transparent about its pricing and quit playing this bait and switch game. PS: the hotel places a $450 hold on your credit card for incidentals. This is the most I’ve ever seen and I’ve stayed in many major cities in the US and Europe. Just seems to be a bit excessive given that the hotel is only a four star one.
So at the end of the day, it was an overall good stay. But we probably won’t return based on the issues outlined above.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback with us. We’re glad to hear that you had a positive experience overall and that you enjoyed our convenient location, spacious rooms, and the cleanliness of our hotel. We’ll be sure to pass on your compliments to our housekeeping team! We also appreciate your candid thoughts on areas where we can improve. We’re sorry to hear that the atmosphere of the rooftop bar didn’t meet your expectations. Our goal is to create a fun and lively environment for our guests, but we understand that it can be disruptive for some. Your feedback about the noise levels is noted, and we’ll certainly review our event hours and how we can better manage the balance between creating a vibrant experience and ensuring comfort for all guests. We also appreciate your comments about the amenity fee and the pricing structure. We always aim to be transparent with our charges and apologize if it felt misleading. We understand your frustration and will continue to work on making sure that all costs are clear from the start. Your point about the incidentals hold is also important, and we’ll look into adjusting it to align with guest expectations. We’d love the opportunity to host you again in the future, and we hope you’ll give us another chance to improve upon the areas you’ve mentioned. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and we wish you the best in your future travels!

Everything is within walking distance, and easily accessible, and plenty of public parking close to it. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and communicative. They have a party every day at the rooftop. If you don't like noise be aware you will listen to a bit of the rooftop music in your room late at night. They have complimentary earplugs. The view is amazing, the room's space is comfortable enough. The beds are comfortable. You can see the LA city and the Hollywood letters from some rooms and from the rooftop. I recommend this hotel.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
For starters they charged us a fee of 450 dollars as a safety deposit during our stay that is returned to your bank account within 7-10 days after the departure, money that sometimes you contemplate for your trip and could result in an tightened budget .
Then, the worst thing of all is that there is no water available, just mini bottles that they give you the first day and that’s about it, if you want more they’ll charge you for bigger ones.
The room smelled like food all the time, the air conducts of the rooms lead to the restaurant so you always feel like you’re inside of a McDonald’s.
They never refilled the bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body gel in the shower.

While check-in didn't go as smooth as it could have and the room felt like there were 2 queen size beds crammed into a room that really just fits just 1 king, the hotel staff was super friendly, the rooftop bar is a cool spot and the location is great to explore near-by sights. We only stayed one night and didn't get our keys for the room until the next morning as the keycard equipment didn't work at check-in - we had a late check out, so could use them the next morning. Security had to escort us into our room for the night. The room was very clean, but there was not really any space to properly lay down a suitcase and open it. It really felt the hotel put 2 queen size beds into a room that had just enough space for a king size bed. The shade system in the room was blocking out the light very well, but the A/C had trouble keeping up. Operating the shades was an issue as they were partially stuck outside of the guardrails. The bathroom and shower were awesome - enough space there. Stopped by the rooftop bar and the drink, vibe, lighting and seating areas were really cool. Noteworthy may also be the communication style of the hotel - I got more than 10 eMails prior to our arrival and at least 5 after. I felt that was a bit overkill and the messages were clearly automated as 80% of them had nothing of substance in them telling us anything new or updated related to our stay. Another positive: Getting there was easy, parking was super easy - there is self-parking in a large parking garage across the street.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. I’m pleased to hear you found the hotel staff friendly, enjoyed the rooftop bar, and appreciated the cleanliness of the room and the spacious bathroom. It’s great that you liked the location and had an easy time with parking. However, I’m sorry to hear about the issues you encountered. It sounds like the room layout didn’t quite meet your expectations, and I can understand how the lack of space for your suitcase and the A/C trouble could be frustrating. The keycard issue and having to be escorted into your room are definitely not ideal, and I appreciate your patience with the situation. Regarding the communication from the hotel, it’s a good point that receiving too many automated emails can feel overwhelming and less helpful. Streamlining this process could definitely improve the guest experience. Thank you for taking the time to share both the positives and areas for improvement. Your insights are valuable, and I hope your next stay is more seamless.

Situations found us needing a room prior to a show at the Pantages. First tip is if you plan on staying at the Godfrey, go to their website to book there are some great deals that you cannot find on third party booking sites.
The hotel is off the main streets so you do not have to fight traffic, and the entrance is very well lit and welcoming. The first thing we noticed is how friendly and welcome everyone is from the Valet, to the Bell and Front Desk staff. You felt the authenticity from the start which made our stay even more pleasant.
The lobby area and bar are compact but appointed very nicely. We did not get a chance to try out any of the facilities, but from what we could tell everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
We had a single King room, view is nothing to speak of from the 4th floor, but the room was very clean, well lit, and in this day and age lots of outlets. Underneath the bed is the safe and some other amenities. There is no dresser in the room but we were only there for one night so we did not have alot to carry. There is no desk but there is a "foldy thing" that comes down from the wall where you can work or put down any food. Again the room is small, but it does fit a King Size bed and 2 nightstands with a decent amount of walking around room. Rain The bathroom is a good sized, with the Rainfall shower head as a nice touch.
Another thing you will notice is that you do not hear any residual noise from other rooms or the hallway. Maybe we were lucky, but made the stay more relaxing. However they do provide ear plugs and an eye mask just in case.
Lsstly as we all know there are alot of Homeless in and around Hollywood, but we were able to walk the 3 blocks to Pantages without hitting any Homeless encampments, not planned but definitely relieved.
Overall a good venue that provides lost of options for food and entertainment nearby, if you are in the area.

Our reservation check in was for 12:30 pm on 02/23/25, weird check in from our chase travel but I went with it. We met the front desk person (skinny white dude with long hair).. I think his name was "Blake" but not sure, he is by far the worst front desk person I ever encounter in my life, he thinks is above everyone and is the only manager in a multi million $ hotel, when I asked if I can speak to someone in manger level. He said that our room is not ready because we are too early for the reservation, but that's no problem because I can upgrade you for $35 extra and we will have the room ready right away and free breakfast with the upgrade.( Liar because room was not an upgrade and with garage view, I paid extra for the Hollywood sign view). I agreed for it because upgrade and free breakfast. While he was checking us in, I asked about the rooftop lounge because that was a main reason I booked and the Hollywood sign. He said no rooftop lounge tonight because of company event. ( Liar again, because I did end up having a great time dancing at the rooftop that night) While waiting for my correct room to be ready, I had a great lunch at the hotel bar. At the bar we met another couple that had same issue like us, asked them for the upgrade charged them $25 this time and gave them a room with same view, and told them rooftop lounge closed for the night company event. They were so mad like us for all this experience with the mighty Multimillion $ establishment Manager Blake. This person don't want the hotel to make money I guess... Room became available, Blake came to drop the new keys off with an arrogant attitude, I asked for my $35 money back because I dint get the upgrade, he said that's not possible anymore and just left. I thought our trip was ruined but afternoon here he comes lord savior himself the new front desk person Jarrel (sorry if I spelled his name wrong) that should be promoted and given a raise, I will be back because of Jarrel and Kristina. I went to explain to Jarrel my experience earlier and he was so apologetic about it and took action right away to make me feel so welcome. He took off the absurd $35 charge, give me 2 free breakfast passes and 2 free wristband to go at the rooftop lounge that MR.Blake said we cant go because of company event. Jarrel also send someone to our room with a apologetic letter and free cookies. That made our weekend, not only we were so happy and we went to the rooftop and had a blast with the etopia party that night. I hope Konstantine sees this and takes action. I will recommend this hotel to my friends and family and I will be back and hope to see Jarrel and Monika soon they were the best.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed and candid review of your experience at our hotel. First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologize for the negative interactions you had during your check-in process. It’s clear that the initial service you received didn’t meet the high standards we strive for, and I understand how frustrating it must have been. Rest assured, we take this feedback seriously, and I will be following up on your concerns with the team to ensure this doesn't happen again. We truly appreciate your understanding and patience, and we’re thrilled to hear that Jerrell and Monika were able to turn your experience around. They exemplify the service we aim to provide, and I will definitely pass on your kind words to them. I’m also glad to hear that you enjoyed the rooftop lounge and had a great time with the event that evening. Thank you for recommending us to your friends and family! We’re excited to welcome you back, and I’m confident your next stay will be much smoother. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Pleasant surprise with this hotel. We loved it, two adults with children. The Hotel is new, the rooms are not very large, but the space is very well used, safe under the bed, refrigerator, coffee, tea, water. Room with coffee maker, hair dryer, bathrobes. Very comfortable beds. Free Wi-Fi. With terrace with pool and bar. There is a point where you can see the Hollywood sign. Some nights there is a party with a DJ. The location is excellent in the heart of Hollywood, very close to the Walk of Fame and Hollywood Blvd. It has paid parking, I think it was $40-$50, but if not, right in front of the hotel there is a parking lot for half the price at $20 a day. . Nearby there are restaurants and fast food. Excellent treatment of the staff. Cleaning very well. A pleasant surprise, highly recommended. Good value for money for Hollywood

My cousins from the UK and I met at this hotel after a few hour drive from Vegas. It was conveniently located and was easy to get too. We used the Valet parking service with our rental car and it was a breeze. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were INCREDIBLE, the soaps that they have available were all lovely and compared to where we stayed in Vegas were night and day difference. The rooms were a little louder at night, but things quieted down after 12pm. We stayed adjacent to the courtyard and that area didn't close till then so we heard a few guests enjoying their stay but it wasnt disturbing. We paid for the breakfast and happy hour drink package so there were snacks and a warm appetizer everyday from 5-7pm that were appreciated, and the breakfast was a decent offering every morning from 7-9am (yogurt, pastries, OJ and warm burrito/frittata or something of the sort). The hotel staff were very helpful and our room was always serviced and clean. There were a few homeless sleeping across from the valet (across the street) but I think that is common for any part of Hollywood, and when we did see them they were keeping there area clean and didnt cause any disturbances. We felt safe to walk around and travelled up the road for a drink from a few spots that were just a couple blocks away but we didnt stay our past 12am. We really enjoyed the Godfrey, and after attempting to get Air bnbs in the area that were nothing but a hassle and last minute cancellations, we really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The Godfrey has been very accommodating and I’ve been very appreciative of their efforts to make sure everything goes smoothly from check-in to check-out! The hotel itself is located in the great corner in Hollywood, it’s really not too busy here despite being in Hollywood itself. When I got to the desk, Blake was very helpful in letting me know what was available for me and how they could help with whatever decision I choose. I recommend the Godfrey and if you come across Blake you’ll be in good hands.

The only thing that was good about this hotel was the location and courtyard on the second floor. This hotel has potential to be great but our experience was not. The first room we had didn’t have hot water working and after someone being sent twice and several hours of waiting they finally agreed to move us to another room. Because of the delayed we missed our dinner reservation, which was very difficult to get and we had been looking forward to this dinner. Secondly, the elevator stopped working on the second day and had to be repaired and made quite the mess in the front lobby. Lastly we had reserved the room with breakfast included, I was charged for breakfast the first day and assumed they would remove the charges at check out, unfortunately they had not and told us we could call the manager of the hotel on Monday. As much as the location was great, I would recommend staying further as our overall experience ruined a large portion of our trip.
