This place was cool - different from the chain hotels. Located in Koreatown with parking garage underneath and 48 rooms. You can leave your car at home as this is metro friendly and restaurants/attractions are easily walkable. I booked directly online and since I was staying only the 1 night, the deposit represented the room cost and was paid at that time (the only balance was the $20 service fee (daily)). Hotel easy to find and is kinda a boutique type place reflecting the furniture and artwork in the common area as well as each room. They have tea/coffee and afternoon wine available in the common area. Looked kinda cute but I passed as no vegan options and I had things to do and places to see. Checkin was simple enough and I got to my room on the 3rd floor. Room had some nice artwork, small frig, window could open (yeah), was clean and had plenty of space for me. Took a quick shower - bathroom was clean and I headed out for my evening. Returned late at night, shower once again and slept well on the king sized bed. I must admit, I did not spend a lot of time in the room, but would come back here again. Liked the location, staff was friendly, room clean, bed comfortable and price was reasonable. I liked the artwork and the hotel has a good feel to it.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks, the location was just perfect as there’s many places around you can go walking. Rooms are big and comfortable, but there’s a lot of humidity (our clothes were constantly wet)! The stuff from the reception is very helpful and nice, the cleaning manager also was very nice and helpful when I found one day a cockroach in my bathroom...on the other hand some of the cleaning women were not very friendly.

I’ve stayed here before and I was very pleased. I checked in Thursday night and was delighted to see how they revamped their lobby with a legit front desk, artsy couches and art pieces that gave this boutique hotel a boost to their aesthetics. The gentleman who checked me in was super sweet and nice. Quick and effective. The room given to me was on the 3rd floor and it was quiet just like the room they gave me 2 years ago. Housekeeping staff did such a great job. When you enter through the parking area, it already smells fresh and clean and sanitized. There’s a pool, ping pong table, free coffee, tea and wine. My bed was a king size and the channels on their tv is a lot. Something I don’t even see in giant hotel companies. Koreatown is a very safe area. $35 Uber ride from the airport. $30 ride to La Cañada golf resort ( even during traffic), and pretty close to WeHo and evening universal. The location is the bomb. So many Uber and Lime scooters around the area. You’re also going to be near Mariella’s tacos, Jollibee and California donuts. As you can see, I wrote “almost perfect”. Two super Minor things happened during my stay that kinda left me a little salty 🤪 but not enough reason for me to discourage you from staying here. If you read the other reviews on Yelp, you’ll see a guy complaining about the check out time at 11:30am. It is posted on the front desk and if you’ve stayed in a hotel before, you know that it’s customary that 11:30-12pm is the check out and check in is at 3pm. So if you encounter that stupid complain, disregard him as he clearly have not stayed in a hotel before. I talk about this because it’s related to my tiny irked moments. When I checked in, I was told in a VERY RESPECTFUL way that I can’t have more than 1 more person in my hotel room when i asked what’s the protocol if my COUSIN picks me up late at night. I was taken aback by this as I am a 41 year old man who has zero plans of having a party in my room. I felt that I was seen as a defiant guest. HOWEVER, he saved himself by rushing towards my door to help me when he saw me carry heavy stuff and my hands were full. The other thing that bugged me ever so slightly was when at 11:23am today, as I’m headed down to the lobby to check out, my phone rings to remind me about the check out. Check out is at 11:30 so I decided that I’ll step out of my room at 11:25am as my flight got pushed to 8:15pm. When I reached the lobby, the front desk guy named Louie was very accommodating and listened to my gentle nudge that I understand that they’ve had shady customers before and reminded him that I am not one of them. So this goes to the management and not to the front desk employees: gage your customers. Especially returning customers like me who did not trash their room ( who follows hote protocol and also leaves a daily tip for the housekeeping staff) or someone like me who has not caused them any problems in the past. I hope the management reads this and maybe incorporate this culture: gage the client, check out their history with your hotel so if someone like me returns, nobody would feel like a first time hotel guest. On a very good note: this small boutique hotel does NOT have a late check out option but they are Super willing to store your luggage while you kill time for your flight. I REALLY REALLY appreciated this. YES. Stay here. and for the guy who complained about the $20 a night self parking area, you clearly have not been to Koreatown as parking here is so painful. Pay the $20 for the parking. Also, there is a $20 daily resort fee. If you can’t handle this, look for hotels that don’t charge this. Good luck though. All in all: I am SUPER DELIGHTED with my stay at Shelter hotel for the 2nd time.

Decent hotel at a reasonable price - it's a former Days Inn given a boutique lick. The common areas are not exactly well-executed, but the staff are extremely polite, the rooms are decent sized, clean and secure, and there's a pool.

First, parking fees plus service fees are 40USD per night! This is not a 5 star hotel, the room is just okay and it’s not valet parking, neither. Idk why I should be charged for this amount! Secondly, they didn’t tell me check out time when I got there, so I assumed it’s 11 or 12. I checked out at around 11:40AM. In that 40 mins, 3 different guys called or knocked my room door for four times. My gf had no time to blow dry her hair, and I didn’t even get no time to take a sh*t!
