Everything about this place is old. The bathrooms are antiquated. The lobby is ancient. No bellman to help with luggage. The gym has old equipment. I stayed for the gym but was not impressed. The pool, however, is great. If you have to stay in LA then I guess it's okay but I was not impressed.

We stayed here for a short vacation and couldn't be happier. When we got there, the room was clean and ready. The bed is comfy. The free breakfast is good, loved the bread pudding! We didn't use the gym amenities but would love to come back to try the pool. I must also add that the staff was very nice...

The neighborhood has gone through an extensive change as is the hotel. While there 2 elevators were down for renovations and updates. It took some planning ahead however the updates will be great. The rooms were a bit dark and my bathroom needed some attention however the bed was really comfortable. I can appreciate the history and culture of the...

Went for one night to LA with my teenage son and wanted a hotel with a Basketball Court. I did not imagine all of the great amenities that I would be getting in addition to the court. The athletic club connected to the hotel has a renovated spa with steam, sauna and showers, it has a gym, a lap pool,...

Spent three nights here on business. Loved the old LA ambience, the incredible gym, the newly vibrant downtown scene. The hotel is comfortable, but the guest rooms and public areas are a bit worse for wear and often seemed curiously empty. It’s a bit “Barton Fink.” The neighborhood is still in transition. If someone poured some money into this place...

We stayed here three years ago and were very pleased. Thought this would be the case again as one was nice to give us a room 1 hour before official check-in. But this time we were quite disappointed. I made a reservation asking for a king size bed, got a queen and no alternative was available. The room (#1020) showed...

Thank you for staying at The Los Angeles Athletic Club I would like to start by saying that I apologize for your unpleasant stay at the club. The week you check-in was one of our busiest for the month of Feb making it difficult to switch you rooms. If you don't mind giving me a call to further discuss your...

The hotel itself was great! There were so many great exercise facilities that we enjoyed. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Staff was polite. We thought the parking price was a little steep at $27/night, so we parked at a different structure a block and a half away and paid $14 total. The room and bathroom were both a...

The Los Angeles Athletic Club hotel facilities are really very nice--lovely appointments, comfortable and quiet rooms and extremely responsive staff. The accommodations are on the top floors of the building--intermediate floors given over to various athletic facilities which appear to be available to hotel guests. The breakfast buffet is included in the room rates and is served in an attractive...

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
