It's in the perfect location for shopping in Venice and going to the beach. I wouldn't recommend staying out past dark, it gets a little sketchy at night. Couple mile walk to the Santa Monica Pier. Had so much fun on the Limo right to three different clubs on the Friday. I was around 40 dollars to sign up. Other... More

Step back in time to the roaring 20s when Venice Beach had its first hey dey with a grand canal & an Italian Pavillion. Samesun Hostel is located in one of the few remaining relics of that yesteryear. Of course there were no elevators, so be prepared to walk up a lot of steps. Ocean views range from OK to... More

Had a really good time here. Location was right on the beach. I actually had a ocean view from my room! Hostel was clean. The room I stayed in had its own toilet which you don't get everywhere. Beds were good. I didn't participate in any of the hostel socials but the staff were great when I spoke to them.... More

Perfect location and therefore would stay again. The kitchen and bathrooms were as clean as expected - we stayed on the first floor where reception was based and both bathrooms were also tidy - first floor room bathroom was a little gross when I went in there - this could be dependent on the guests at the time I was... The location of this hostel couldn't get any better - directly on the Venice beach boardwalk and steps away from the infamous 'Venice' sign on pacific ave. Walking distance to the beach, boardwalk with tons of shops & food selection (theres a Big Daddys Poke Shack right next to the hostel on 75 Windward - must try!), and bike rentals... More

The best thing about this hostel was the location. Within a few mins walk we were on the beach, making it extremely convenient for beach days. The service was very good too. I needed to print tickets for a theme park and the staff were happy to print them for me. I'd definitely stay again.

One of the best hostels ever! Friendly staff and plenty of activities like pub crawls and bike rides. It was so easy to meet cool people and can't beat the location. My dorm even had an ocean view! Clean, laid back place and decent breakfast with toast, oatmeal, pancakes, fresh fruit and eggs. Also the bus to downtown LA and... More

Right next to the beach, good standards, and polite personell. Breakfast included and was ok. However, the kitchen was a little bit small and it could be a little bit noicy from outside in the mornings.

We had a great stay in a double room at Samesun! It is literally right next to famous Venice Beach and you are right in the epicenter of Californian craziness! Only a 3km walk to Santa Monica pier, which will seem shorter because there is plenty to see! The staff were so welcoming and super friendly. They always let us... More

Staying in Venice

Neighborhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
