    Lovely Birthday Stay
What a lovely weekend stay on the RMS Queen Mary (hotel). We stayed in a first class cabin with two beds and a LOT of floor space and two portholes. Cabin # A136. The cabin was very clean, as was the bathroom. It is important to remember that the rooms are the original wooden-walled cabins (staterooms in US English) made for the ship in 1936. So there is not a lot of modern soundproofing. That said the guests are polite and generally quiet. The RMS Queen Mary has a lot of decorative wood, some of which is now extinct. Guests of the hotel can freely roam the ship and can visit the museum parts without any extra charge. There is no pool, but there is an exercise room. I first stayed on board in 1981, and have visited about once a decade. This was the best stay yet! The ship now boasts a compliment of officers in full Cunard uniforms who meet and greet and talk about the ship. They also pose for a lot of photos with guests. Many guests are staying on the ship hotel while they wait for their Carnival cruise to depart from the cruise ship centre behind the Queen Mary. While there we also greatly enjoyed the Sunday Brunch held in the first class main salon. Be aware that the hotel charges a "resort" fee AND a parking fee per night of stay. This can add up to 33% to your bill.
Hi John, Thank you for joining us on the Queen Mary. We are happy to hear of your wonderful experience aboard. We appreciate your positive feedback as it lets us know what our customers enjoy most about the Queen Mary. We hope to see you again soon!

    Cruising at a Stand Still
I'm a cruiser so stepping on board from the ramp brought back memories. My son was staying there so the visit and walking tour was free. I visited his room and it was larger than an inner cabin on some of the cruise ships I've been on. We did the walking tour which is free also. The photographs of past movie celebrities brought back old memories of movies I saw as a kid. You can visit several decks that allow you to see the shoreline places, hidden oil rigs, and ships from a distance. There is one place where models of shops are displayed in glass cases. Some have cutouts showing how they used coal to run the engines. Speaking of engines, my favorite part of the ship is the engine room. We just happened to go down there as a docent was telling all about it. This ship is well maintained with only a couple of places where old things might be replaced. There's also a free movie available.
Hi Joseph, Thank you for joining us aboard the Queen Mary. We are happy to provide you with true Queen Mary service. We are glad you explored all our historic ship has to offer and that you enjoyed one of our fine entertainment attractions. Thank you for sharing your experience and we hope to see you aboard soon!

We are reading some reviews of the Queen Mary and feel that they are very unfair. We booked two nights as our first stop from the UK on a fly drive through California We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel pricing was very reasonable and value for money. The beds were large clean and comfortable. People need to realise this is 90 year old ship undergoing renovations, Its not going to be perfectly plastic. The food was lovely and staff polite and helpful. We unexpectedly bumped into the hotel manager outside the swimming pool area and we’re given a free personal tour including locked areas. He disappeared as quickly as he arrived and to this day we’re not sure if he was for real or a ghost! If you love your history and want a unique clean value for money hotel we would thoroughly recommend. In addition the water taxi from the ship across the bay was a bit choppy but shout out to the brilliant captain who kept us safe And entertained. Bargain price too!

We stayed on The Queen Mary for two nights before a cruise and it happened during the Hurriquake. We were a cab ride away from good dining and a Vons for provisions. The Uber ride back was cheaper. The ship is old and anyone expecting the amenities of a modern hotel might be disappointed but it’s beautiful and well maintained. We stayed in a king room that was comfortable and clean. Slept great. There is so much history and it was fun to wander around. There is an amazing bar with appetizers and the restaurant is very good too. A Starbucks for drinks and snacks and one day I saw free coffee by the Starbucks. We were safe during the Hurriquake and walked a short distance the next day to board the cruise. We are already booked next spring. We were excited to take tours but they were canceled due to the storm. So next time for sure.

We have waited over 3 years for the Queen Mary to reopen so we were thrilled when I learned by accident, while on vacation in San Diego, that it was open and taking reservations. The ship is old but as a HISTORICAL property a lot of the original décor and furnishing are still there though the beds have certainly been updated. It has great ambiance and is filled with history. Our 14 yo granddaughter and her 13 yo friend had a super time. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had dinner on board and the food AND service were OUTSTANDING. We also di the evening paranormal tour which was well done, very educational and informative as well as fun. Would definitely go again and we ALL highly recommend staying overnight or at least doing a couple of the daytime tours and the evening (8-10) paranormal tour.

The rooms are small and ventilation is an issue. A/C did not work well. The small window on the room could not be opened and the nearest outside door was closed. The bed sheets were dusty and over-starched. The front desk at check out informed us the check out time was 11 am whereas the check in staff told us it was 4 pm. Not a lot of communication skills. And overall, we were disappointed many areas were not accessible to the public.

The public areas are well-kept and beautiful. The room that my family was assigned was something out of a B-movie. Stained carpet, broken bathtub, broken windows, curtains falling off, TV did not work, etc. I did send a note to the hotel but do not expect a response.

The stately, magnificent Queen Mary is a sight to behold. Every attempt is being made to retain the integrity of the Queen. The exhibitions were excellent. The staterooms are replicas of the period. Loved the experience. Extra appreciation to the amazing staff who are exceptionally helpful and friendly.

My 15 year-old son loves the Titanic and has wanted to stay on the Queen Mary for a long time. We finally had a chance and he was so excited. We were there for about 24 hours and had a great time. Much of that time was spent exploring. You can see the ship's smokestacks as you drive up. The pier is easy to navigate and there is ample parking. There is a rundown old parking dispenser as you drive into the lot with no signage letting you know it is no longer in service. Parking fees are taken out of the incidental deposit you leave when you check-in. I believe it was $30 per night. The ship itself is nearly 100 years old and is owned by the City of Long Beach. Throughout its long history, it has gone through a world war, several different management companies, quite a few bankruptcies, and a pandemic. It's important to understand a full renovation will take hundreds of millions of dollars to return the Queen to her former glory. Some of the areas have been updated, some are in progress and some are still closed to the public. The areas that are open are so interesting and fun to explore. We spent hours walking through the many hallways, rooms, exhibits, and decks. The scale models of the ships are a must-see. The detail put into each is incredible! The Winston Churchill exhibit was fascinating and I highly recommend going on as many guided tours as you can. We did the "Steam and Steel" and "The Glory Days". There are also several parts of the ship you explore on your own. We had no interest in the haunted tours, but they seemed pretty popular. My recommendation with any tour is to book early as they do sell out. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and you can tell they have a passion for the ship. We ate lunch and dinner at the Chelsea Chowder House. All of our meals were delicious and the service was excellent. During dinner The Commodore was in the restaurant visiting with guests. It was a fun addition to add to the overall ambiance. We grabbed a quick breakfast at the Midship Marketplace. This is just a Starbucks with limited beverage and bakery options. Nothing exciting, but nice to have as there are really no other options at that time of day. The Observation Bar had a great vibe and serves bar food in the evenings but not over the lunch hour. We really enjoyed being able to stay overnight. The rooms were large and comfortable. I had booked a suite so I could have a bed and my son would have his own bed in a separate room. That smaller room was a bit creepy so we ended up sharing the king bed in the main room. The bathrooms have complimentary soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. They also have a hairdryer in each. The rooms are equipped with a TV. The portholes open up completely which can let in a cool ocean breeze. The rooms also have a ventilation system near the ceilings which are designed to pipe in cool night air. You can switch that in the other direction if you need a little heat. The woodworking was beautiful and there are so many nooks and crannies for storage and holding smaller items. There are large closets, many drawers, and a large vanity with built-in shelves and mirrors. We could definitely get a feel for what it must have been like to stay in these rooms crossing the Atlantic 80 years ago. Many famous and interesting people have stayed on board over the years. It would be interesting if there were any records available showing if any well-known person had stayed in our room at one point. The gift shop on board is a little disappointing. Very small with a limited selection. We found some small souvenirs but would have bought more if they had screen-printed t-shirts rather than shirts with the embroidered logo on them. This was a trip we'll remember for a long time. Hopefully, someday the funds will become available to help the Queen Mary become fully restored. We may go back in a few years to see if there has been any progress.

We booked this Hotel stay on the Ship The Queen Mary because it had a great location. What we found was a great time running around the whole ship and the kids did a night ghost walk tour. The staff was great and seeing this floating museum was Super fun. There is a lot of history on this ship.

Traveled by an old ship fitting 40 people from Hainburg, Austria to Bratislava, Slovakia and back, ordered food and drinks which were served by the captain, whilst his son, also a licensed captain maneuvered the boat. In Bratislava, we boarded an old timer bus for a tour of 1 hour of this picturesque city and then had lunch - Schnitzeln on the 2-hour trip back.

We reserved 2 rooms for our family for an overnight birthday stay. The rooms were located quite far away from each other, which was a little disappointing, but okay. One room, with 2 queen beds, was huge. Had a harbor/skyline view and the AC worked great. The second room, a king bed, was cramped, had no AC at all, and the light over the bathroom mirror was out. Pros: both rooms were very clean Beds & pillows, comfortable Halls were quiet Breakfast at Chelsea’s was delicious Service all around was great - everyone was friendly and helpful. Cons: faulty AC. One restaurant, one shop and one bar. Some areas in desperate need of paint and repair. Only 200 rooms are available. We were unable to move rooms when we learned the AC didn’t work. They brought us fans. Some of the rooms are cramped. Outside of the ship, the area looks abandoned. There’s a little “shopping village” near the ship that’s decrepit. It was closed when we visited 30 years ago and it’s still standing! Needs to be torn down. I was pleased to see how many people were visiting. There isn’t a loss of interest in this beautiful vessel! It’s totally worth a stay for the historical aspect, and the tours are great. I would love to see them put some money into the hotel, add more dining, and some live entertainment. It’s such a lovely ship and just needs some updating and TLC.

It’s a 3 star room and 5 star location and 5 star story. Old And super cool only issue was bar closed early and the AC in the rooms suck bad like they need to fix the AC. Other than that it’s cool and easy walk to the cruise terminal. Parking is easy and not to bad at $30 day and there is a resort fee of $19. We had a blast and will stay again. Lots of history
