Hotel's Favorite
I stayed at The Golden Sails for work and pleasure. It's a modest place with a very friendly staff. The hotel is a little rundown, but you get what you pay for and the value was great. Room was pretty clean. Note there is no daily cleaning service but you can text them if you want it. Also can get towels at any time. Lighting was very dim, but beds and pillows were so comfortable. Bathtub very rusty, but shower power was fabulous. I stayed in a room with a sliding door out to the pool and that was really nice. Basic plastic chairs to sit on. I had food delivered, came quickly, so many places nearby. Great location as there is everything you need within a five minute drive.

Summary: The location, room, and service was great! For a quick weekend stay here in Long Beach somewhere that is still close to night life and away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, we would highly recommend this place!
We visited Long Beach to reconnect with some friends from college and when planning the trip, we wanted somewhere near second street with easy access to one of the main roads around here (ones that connect with the roundabout).
We looked at several places across different platforms (airbnb etc) and decided the golden sails was worth a try and for the price was very competitive compared to airbnbs in the area (airbnbs had a lower. Nightly rate but once you factor in the cleaning cost of $100+ for a weekend stay it made more sense to go with a hotel).
We wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of downtown without having to be so far from second street and this place being right off pch makes it a great pick.
Our room was on the third floor of the main building, it was a corner room with two large windows and an accessible patio (via sliding door) (a very pleasant surprise!). The room was way larger than we had expected it to be and while the age is noticeable (older carpet with noticeable wear and small infrequent stains, but overall higher marks than average for cleanliness of the room.
Price: we paid 386 and change for our two night stay in a king sized bedroom. The room was much more spacious than we had expected which was nice because between bouts of going out we looked forward to returning so we could really stretch out and feel at ease.
Amenities: the front desk staff were very accommodating and had someone was at the desk 24 hours a day to handle any questions or needs we had. (In our case our flight didn’t get in until late and we’re worried about late check in). The room featured everything you would expect, what we had not expected is the small patio with chairs over looking the pool and further out towards PCH. The office chair was serviceable and I would absolutely consider working remote from a place like this. The front desk had a small supply of beverages (beers and nonalcoholic) along with snacks, easy to charge to your room for a late night last call. Parking was accessible (which around here is a blessing) because in most location street parking non existent. AC worked great! The mattress was comfortable (on the firmer side) with fairly comfortable pillows.
The hotel also features a 24hr fitness facility (elliptical, weight and several weight lifting machines).
All the being said I would highly suggest this place to anyone looking to dip their toe back into Long Beach.

The old, but authentic LB (“in its day”) exterior of this hotel is deceiving for what one will experience as a guest.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure being greeted by them upon arrival and at departure. I felt safe here being on my own.
The room amenities were perfect - a good sized hotel refrigerator, quality toiletries, very clean and comfortable bed, not noisy in the least (even the air conditioning didn’t rattle too loud as some do AND you can actually adjust on your own).

Well my original review and thoughts about this place were sadly correct. My family and I ended staying here for 3 nights while our apartment building was being fumigated/tented. The only reasons I chose this hotel was it was near our home, pet friendly and their pool and jacuzzi are open until 10pm or later if you're quiet. We got a ground floor room in the side wing near the jacuzzi. The location was good as I wanted to be near the jacuzzi but the grounds were unkept and the grass was long and had dog poop all over the place. We had to walk across the grass to get from our room to the jacuzzi, luckily we didn't step in the 2 poops outside our room at night! The room was even worse. We had hairs in our ice bucket and shower when we arrived. There were 4 of us in a double room and we had a total of 2 bath towels. Every time we needed towels we had to go to the front desk to get more. It seemed like they were very short on towels. The beds were horribly uncomfortable and all I could think about were bed bugs and hoping we didn't get any from this flea bag joint. The worst part was the carpet in our room. It was black with stains and if you walked barefoot it was sticky and your feet would turn black from the dirt. We wore our shoes in the room during our entire stay. Honestly I tried to find one redeeming quality in this place and can't. The employees (except one young man who helped us at check in) were all rude and not helpful at all. When we asked for towels they acted like they were doing us a favor giving us clean towels! And you must request house keeping 24 hours in advance. WTH. The day we checked out we had a dead cock roach in our bathroom and my kids had bug bites (I think fleas) all over themselves. This place is just awful and I feel that they are going out of business soon. It reminds me of the Seaport Marina Hotel that sat practically empty for years before the 2nd and PCH center went in. Golden Sails must own the land their hotel is on; that's the only way I can think how they stay open this long. I knew I should have stayed at the Hotel Current down the street. My best advice is run far away from Golden Sails!
There weren't any clean towels by the pool the entire time we were there for 3 days, only the basket of used towels that sat there in the bin the entire time never picked up to be laundered or replenished with clean.

We paid over $15,000 for a reunion of military veterans that consist of World War II and Korean War veterans. We were promised in the original contract to have the Hospitality, Ship Store and meeting rooms comped, this did not happen. What we did get was space for the ship store that did not lock, a reception with no coffee or tea and water on the table, a “deluxe” breakfast that come with no meat (had to pay extra), sleeping rooms that were broken down, torn curtains, bathroom fixtures coming apart, sliding glass doors that did not lock, had an odor and small flying insects; if you stayed on the club side of the hotel deep bass music pounded until after 1:00 a.m.
I find the business practices of the Golden Sails Hotel to be deceptive and shameless. We stayed at this hotel in early October and three months after our stay we are receiving changed invoices that were paid in full stating that we owe more money they changed room night number three times to increase amount owed and their the bottom line.
If you are thinking on staying or having an event here, think again. The way they treat military veterans is appalling.

March 8th 2020 I headed out for my vacation of a lifetime. 4 days at the Disneyland Grand Hotel, 20 days at Golden Sails Hotel all to celebrate my 60th birthday my family in California. Driving 3,242 miles from UpState New York to the Anaheim Hilton Hotel for a day of before starting this great adventure the hostess informs me that just 30 minutes earlier Disneyland announced they will be closing affective March 14 till April 30th. March 14th the day of my birthday.
I was stranded, I called Golden Sails for a room for the days I would won not be at Disneyland. They understood the craziness that was happening and gave me a room at the discounted rate plus gave me an upgraded room. Thank you for easing my pain.
I had prepaid for my 20 day stay at Golden Sails and when all of the restrictions and closures were put into effect my family and I could not go anywhere nor do anything. I made the decision it was time to go home. Again Golden Sails did the right thing and refunded me my unused money with NO cancelation fees at all.
The room was very clean. The maid comes in very day to clean. Every staff member was great. I will be staying there next year for my repeat of my Birthday Trip. Wish me better luck. The pillows are not good but I found the pillows even at the Hilton are the same ones. So I don't know why that all across the USA from Best Western to the Hilton they are using crappy pillows.

+1
Room 224 was infested with bed bugs, black mold in the shower, dead bugs outside and black gum on floors also random people’s hair. Front desk refused to send someone to check nor mow our room nor refund and said someone will inspect on Monday. It’s Saturday we have left the room with nowhere to stay so headed back home. Disgusting. I want my money back in this disgusting experience.

Room was clean and very large for a double queen room. Bathroom had 2 sinks, one in the bathroom and one outside the bathroom with a vanity mirror. Paul Mitchell toiletries were supplied free of charge. Towels were thick and large. Beds are comfortable with all clean tops and sheets. No old bedspreads here. The grounds are really pretty and the lobby was nice. Staff was super fast and helpful. This is an old hotel but I would absolutely stay here again .It was very close to the Mother's beach.

Having been referred by a friend living in the area of this hotel who said it was advertised at $130 USD for 1 night, which we looked up on the internet to confirm the amount. We rang the reception to find it was in fact a higher rate for the night 02/17/2023 a Friday night of $152 which we secured with a credit card payment.
We received no confirmation by email and arrived for our stay to find that the hotel wanted a payment of $298USD without tax within a time frame of 48 hours.. We were shocked to say the least, mentioning several times that we had secured with our credit card the price of $152, to no avail. We were told by the Manager the next time to get a written confirmation of the price as proof and that a credit card payment was not proof of the rate quoted.
What I am warning people of is that you must get a written confirmation of the amount you are quoted at the time of your booking as obviously hotels can jack the price up at their leisure at any time before your arrival. We have never experienced this before traveling quite frequently within the USA and Europe for over 36 years.
It was the dearest hotel on our 2 week stay in the USA, even beating the Casino rates over the weekend for the highest pricing or (gouging). The Hilton LAX was even much cheaper as well.
This hotel was a 2.5 star hotel, run down and much in need of refurbishment, but for one night and being close to our friend's home in Long beach, we thought at $130 it was enough of a compromise for convenience. We had no choice after arrival to look for another hotel in the area at such late notice.

The location is good but Golden Sails is very tired and at $250 a night it is overpriced. The bed and linens were comfortable but place is not clean with broken tiles in the shower. Their website says there is a restaurant but NOT. I would pass if I were you.
