We recently returned to The Heritage House Resort & Spa last week and can’t say enough good things about our experience! Things are different now with COVID, but that was to be expected, we were just excited that they are open. The room was clean and everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The grounds are starting to shape back up after they said the property sat vacant during the pandemic. There are so many wildflowers! There was however no restaurant / bar, but the front desk had a detailed list of open businesses and even helps with making reservations. In room WiFi was Super great. Again, we are just grateful that they are open & accepting guests! We knew that the experience would be different than normal (pre-COVID), however we enjoyed all that they had to offer. The views are still worth a million dollars!!!

We were looking forward to a little change in scenery during COVID. A getaway from the norm. We arrived late at 10:30 pm and checked in. We drove to the room and walked in...the room wasn’t cleaned. You’d think 6+ hours after a guest can check in the room would be ready. Dirty towels piled up by the door. The bed stripped down. The garbage can filled to the brim and leaning against the wall. Linens everywhere. It looked like housekeeping started cleaning, but then stopped suddenly. We called the front desk and went back to the office. We waited 30+ minutes for the front desk attendant to go and check the other rooms to ensure they could be used. She came back empty handed and no other rooms were cleaned. 11 pm and no room. She offered to put us up at another B&B or to wait for her to clean the room. With a pandemic going on, we didn’t feel that it’d be the best option. So we opted for a refund and a long 4 hour drive home in the middle of the night. With the full refund, we were also offered a gift certificate for a later visit. Most likely, we won’t be using that. To top it all off the on site manager was no help to the employee to help solve the issue and we didn’t receive an apology email or phone call the next day. Overall, this place did not meet expectations or follow their COVID precautions, especially for the price. We’d recommended paying more for Harbor House Inn in Elk for a 5-star getaway the next time you head in that area.

We decided to take a relaxing getaway on the coast and Heritage House looked to fit the bill- great views, 4 star. Unfortunately, we ended our trip early due to the poor experience, and it seems we are not alone based on recent reviews. Strike 1, the wifi was down. While it took a moment of shock to process, we got over it- hey, we'll disconnect! Though it did put a damper on my plans to wrap up a few work items, and I would have appreciated some sort of notice so I could plan accordingly. I also had to ask to have the resort fee removed, and I would expect if those amenities are not being offered, that the fee would be waived- many don't think to ask. Strike 2, room accomodation was quite worn. I didn't ding the place too much for this, but I was expecting some top notch furnishings and it looked like things could use some refreshing. Strike 3, spiders - every night. We'd go to climb in bed, and there it'd be. Not the most relaxing pre-bedtime ritual. Strike 4, fireplace didn't work. Talked to the front desk to have it fixed, never happened, so we gave up. Strike 5, no TV. When we had difficulty finding a place to eat one night, we decided to head back and maybe watch something to wind down, ya know, no internet after all? Nope, TV was a no go too. All that said, these were the biggest items, but in general, was one of the least relaxing trips we've had, and we ended checking out early. We left feeling that we would have essentially had the same experience staying in a tent- no electronics, spiders or room service. While I attempted to give this property the benefit of the doubt due to operating in such an odd time, I've stayed at other properties and witnessed that it can be done, and quite expertly as well. Save your money and stay elsewhere.

Incredible location, views and charm, The room we stayed in #22 was clean, spacious, possessed impressive views of the coast, inlet and a little of the ocean, it had a nice deck with Adirondack chairs, a comfortable king bed with duvet, a nice couch and wide screen TV, coffee bar and refrigerator. The grounds are beautiful with magnificent coast line views,.. Why the low scoring is a result of what the resort/ room struggled with; things you would not expect when paying $500/night including: - Checking in post 4 pm you really hope the room would be ready after hundreds of miles of driving however; we had to wait for approx. 45 mins including walking back to the main house where the check in deck was located to get the keys despite being told the keys would be delivered. - The in room fireplace did not work, nor did the ceiling fan, the in room telephone, the internet, the door on the bathroom would not stay closed, ice was only available at the main house, the electric car charging station was done, there were no food facilities open on the property although the resort did offer a list of nearby places that were. The room also lacked little touches like terry cloth robes, slippers and other amenities which are standard at resorts such as this. I will say this; it's certain that Covid has made it very challenging for a resort like this to delivery what may otherwise be a very different product and service offering so I do want to be fair however; the price paid for the room did not seem to reflect these issues. As the property and resort facilities are wonderful we will give this resort another try; hoping that our next visit provides greater value for the price paid.

We booked this weekend trip to celebrate my daughter's 4th birthday and our wedding anniversary. Given the pandemic our family decided to splurge and pay more than we usually would - knowing that we won't be traveling much more this year and because we thought the "cabin" would be a safer, more secluded option (and quieter for other guests as we are traveling with small children). We spent over $600 a night for the Pine Cottage and I expected the accommodations to be much higher quality than they were. Unfortunately, the cabin had many issues that made our stay stressful and disappointing. The small kitchen appears fully stocked with glassware on the website photos. When we arrived there were no glasses, plates, or cookware ... but there was dirty silverware still in the sink. We bought eggs and bacon for breakfast before realizing there was nothing to cook them in except a flimsy bread pan. There was a dirty sponge and no dish soap (which would have been inexpensive but very welcomed touches to the cabin). The trash from the previous guests was still in a bin outside the cabin that was crawling with maggots and flies which prevented us from having a place to take out our own trash. The bathroom sink was also plugged when we arrived. We were not able to contact the front desk because the phone in the cabin was dead (no dial tone) and we did not have cell service in the remote location. This required us to walk back to the main property. However, there is no direct path (the map we were provided did not have a helpful level of detail) except for a private road that was barred by a locked gate - which we could not get our double wide stroller around without taking our kids out and pushing it over bushes. Needless to say, it was actually very inconvenient to walk to the front desk to ask for help. They were polite - however, no one actually came to fix the sink. 24 hrs later we had to make another trip back to ask about the sink which we could not use and to request linens for one of the beds (there was just a mattress and no sheets or blankets so our girls had to share a bed the night before). A polite gentleman came soon after and improved the sink (he needed to do more work but at least got it to drain) and sheets were delivered but still no blanket. The cabin itself felt dirty. There were cobwebs in every corner. I understand during the summer the spiders are out and the property is nestled against a wooded area - but there were several spider carcasses and it was clear no one had dusted for a long time. We were also disappointed that there was not stocked firewood as we were looking forward to making a fire to roast marshmallows with the kids. We were able to buy firewood and a frying pan at the local general store and had a fine time in the end but there was nothing about this cabin that justified 4 star prices. We did receive a discount due to the trouble with the sink - but I still felt I grossly overpaid for the quality of the accommodations. I rarely leave reviews but I don't want others to experience the same disappointment that my husband and I felt - which definitely put a damper on our weekend that we went in with such high expectations. You get what you pay for but not in this case...
