Pros: View from our cottage, the Farallones, was fantastic. (Only a couple of the cottages have a good view.) Perfect location to access all this beautiful area has to offer. The gardens are pretty and well kept. The cottage was clean. A split of wine was made available. Cons: The interior and the furnishings are quite tired. The bed seems smaller than a queen. The cottage lacks ambiance eg, no cozy throws or pillows on the sofa, just the bare necessities. The kitchen has very little counter space, and certainly is not a “gourmet” kitchen. Again, just the bare necessities. No sharp knives. The cottages and grounds are not very accessible for the elderly—lots of steps without handrails. Parking can be a ways away from the cottage and down a flight of stairs making schlepping luggage and groceries difficult. With so many choices in the $300+/night tariff, we will stay elsewhere when visiting the area.…
Great value, location and views. Clean and comfortable. This is the first time we've ever traveled with our dog and our experience was terrific. We brought her bed but didn't need it as they provided one along with bowls, treats, a frisbee, a towel (very helpful after our beach visit) and bags for "clean up". So it's not a "gourmet" kitchen but it is definitely functional and worked well. Definitely recommend if you are traveling to the Mendocino area.
Very comfortable and reasonable price for the area. The cabins are laid out nicely and have really good amenities, including a full kitchen. We booked a cabin with a hot tub and the previous guests broke the hot tub. Geneva, who works for the hotel, called us while we were on the road. They were very accommodating and offered to put us up in a different property. We spent the first night in the original cabin we booked and they moved us to an upgraded cabin for the second night at new extra charge. In addition they gave us a partial refund for the first night. We were extremely satisfied with the way they handled it. We would stay here again. A couple of things to note, the cell phone reception is very spotty. We were not able to use our cell phones, however, we were able to link up to Internet which meant we could text and WhatsApp people. The second thing Is that it is a five minute drive to Mendocino which is not a problem.…
This was our first visit and it was for 3 nights. We have already booked for 4 nights in the fall. We stayed in the "Albion" cottage and were very happy with the close parking and easy access to haul in our ice chest and bags. We have chosen the "Farallon" for our next visit, as it is a bit more spacious and has an outdoor balcony facing the cove. We had everything we needed to cook our meals. The staff is super friendly and our room was ready earlier than anticipated, so we got to check in a couple hours early! This is definitely our favorite go to place while staying at the coast with our little rat terrier. She loved the lawn area for play and socializing. There were fun treats, frisbee, and poo bags with holder for her welcome package. This is a very pet friendly establishment and we were not charged an arm and a leg for our pups stay. The overall experience was SUPER and the rates are fair.…
This was our second visit to the Cottages. The view, comfort and ease of staying here brought us back. It's quiet and relaxing, perched on a hill overlooking the bay with easy parking. The cottages are clean and equipped with everything you need to be self-sufficient. Plus it's just a quick drive to hiking, beaches, Mendocino and Fort Bragg.
Great place to hang your hat for a long weekend on the Mendocino Coast. The cottages are spacious and can sleep up to four, there is a kitchen where you can cook. We used it for breakfasts and lunches, as well as using the fridge to chill our wines. The views from the cottages are to die for.
We came for two nights and will definitely book longer next time. Our unit (Humbolt) was sparkling clean, spacious and had a spectacular view. We brought food that was already prepared so we didn’t really use the kitchen. The bed was super comfortable and the front porch is perfect for reading, drinking wine and enjoying the amazing ocean views. Kate made us feel so welcome and was always available for questions or concerns. You can see how much they’re focused on safety with contactless check in, as well as masks, sanitizer and spray in the room. So happy we booked and look forward to a return visit soon!
We stayed four nights in the Gualala Cottage, at Little River Cove, at a cost of just under $1,000.00. I would like to address the discrepanies in the Room Details listed for this particular cottage. One good point is the view, on the down side is the overall condition, which is very tired. The full 'gourmet kitchen' contained a Black & Decker toaster oven which took about 10 mins. to toast a piece of bread. The range seemed adequate, although we didn't utilize. The kitched was far from gourmet, from my experience. The 'designer Queen bed' appeared to be a Full size and the mattress was not comfortable at all and appeared to need replacing. The 'deluxe rainfall showerhead' was an old Waterpik that leaked when turned on. The furniture was old and damaged. There was also a hole in the wall of the bathroom. I would say that if you have a dog, this might be the place for you, but I, myself, would not stay in this kennel again.…
As a Californian, I love our Northern California coast! I typically stay in vacation rentals, but discovered the Cottages during research. To be honest I spent a lot of time in this area in my past and couldn't wait to return with my dog. I'll start by complementing the staff. This is not a big lodge like the place next door. I chose the Dylan Cottage and I wasn't disappointed. The cottage with the best view would probably be "Elk," but I loved my cottage, so did Rocco. Although they do not have a restaurant onsite, it doesn't matter. Cottages are located 2 miles south of Mendocino and there are two great restaurants next door and across the street (Little River Inn and Wilde Fish) where I ordered food to go because I didn't want to meet my furry guy at home and hotels and rentals frown on that. Weather was in the 70's the whole time. Loved Cottages for the small personal feel. My bed was sooo comfy!…
This was our second time here and we had another wonderful weekend. Humboldt cottage was really our favorite, the bed is so comfortable and the view from the front porch is amazing. This property is very dog friendly, they have a huge lawn in the middle of the cottages and really make an effort to make your visit with your dogs comfortable. We really recommend this place and will certainly be back the next time we are in the area. Be sure to visit their other property for breakfast, you can even bring your dog into the restaurant!
