We reserved a cabin at Huntington Lake Resort (resort is a huge misnomer) when picking up our kids from sleep-away camp. We were assigned Cabin 2 which is in no way reflective of the pictures on the website. The cabin was tiny (~9'x9'?), dark, musty, and dirty. The glass in one of the two tiny windows was cracked, one of the two doors had been obviously kicked in and never repaired properly. The drapes (if you can call them that) and bedspread appeared decades old, musty, dirty, and not representative of a $180/night room. We camp a fair amount and are not overly picky about hotel stays but it is safe to say that in my 30+ years of travel, this cabin was among the worst I have seen. It appears that little-to-no attempt has been made in decades to improve the cabin. I was not keen to stay the night in the dark, dirty cabin. My wife flat out and unemotionally refused. Prior to leaving, we spoke with the caretaker who was quite kind and told us they were fully booked and no other cabins available. He gave us the email of the owner and instructed us to send an email to request a refund. I followed up as instructed and sent three emails. Not a single one was responded to. I expected at minimum to receive at least a polite rejection of our refund request but our emails were ignored. Some of the other cabins appeared somewhat refurbished and consistent with the website. Our Cabin and Cabin 1 next to us, and perhaps others, appeared original and untouched for the past 3-4 decades? I very rarely write a negative review but my strong advice is to avoid this property.

At first glance, the property appeared dilapidated, however, once inside our cabin, we were delighted with the condition, cleanliness and appearance . It was quite charming and comfortable. Upon arrival, we were cheerfully greeted by George. He was very friendly and accommodating. All of the staff we met were equally professional and helpful. We unfortunately had a few glitches, there was no wifi in our room, the smoke detectors did not work and our refrigerator stopped working after a couple of hours. The previous guest did not leave the key and so we had to wait to have another lock installed. We waited for quite a while because of the limited staff. Several of the staff are performing double duties and we had to wait a long time to have our lock changed. Despite these set backs, we had a great time and are very grateful to Hamar who graciously granted our request for a change in the date of our booking. We look forward to coming back.

I arrived and was greeted by George the manager. He was great throughout my stay and took care of all my desires, from a light bulb change to changing the shower nozzle. He was always there ready to help and interested in how my stay was going. He left nothing to complain about and was the perfect host. On my final day I had to get down to my sailboat race and the Grill was not open so George jumped into the kitchen and prepared a great omelet for me to start my day. I would heartily recommend Huntington Lake Resort to everyone.

We rented Captain three for the weekend and we're not disappointed. The cabin slept for comfortably and room for more on the futon in the kitchen. Cabin 3 was beautifully renovated and had a modest kitchen, bath, and was quiet with a fire pit adjacent outside. Take your groceries with you and cook in the cabin and enjoy the outstanding scenery!

We had planned on 2 nights in Cabin 10. Upon arrival (check in at their restaurant) we were told that it was being cleaned. I questioned this because I knew that no one had occupied this cabin the previous evening. This was my first red flag. Finally checked in at 3:00 & noticed that this cabin was absolutely filthy!!!!!! It was disgusting!!!! No coffee pot, railing on deck was broken, sponge in kitchen was used, no barbeque, which was advertised. Since we had no service we had to drive back to restaurant with our list of things for them to fix. They said that they would Take of them. We took off for a drive & when we returned we noticed that they did bring a coffee pot, new sponge, but the barbecue was a piece of junk. Nothing was cleaned. The maintenance man was there fixing the deck railing. We then checked to see if the beds had sheets. Both beds had only one sheet. Shower floor was absolutely disgusting!!! This place was going from bad to worse !!! Checked teflon pans for cooking & they were scratched with food still left on them. Wanted to cook lasagna for dinner but oven would not turn on. Had to contact them again ( another drive down the hill) & was to told that that it just need to be turned on. But why was it turned off? Was there a leak somewhere??? Maintenance did not know why ??? Really???? No smoke alarm 🚨 no fire extinguisher!!!! Red flags all over the place!!!! This place was now the Bates Motel !!! They suggested we could move to a different cabin since there were so many things wrong with this one. It was late at this point & said that we would move in the morning. They said they would be by at 10:00. We wanted them to come at 9:00 but they said that was too early for them. Later that evening my sister went to get in their bed & saw that it was covered in hair. Shame on the owners of this place!!!! Needless to saw that the next morning arrived & we were packed up ready to leave this horrible disgusting filthy dangerous place!!! Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine that a place would ever be allowed to rent such a place. The Health Department would have had a field day in this place. I spoke with the manager on Sunday when we returned from Huntington Lake (and yes we did find a beautiful place to stay for Saturday night) & she was the rudest woman ever. She said that she would not return any of our money, $416.12 (which included her cleaning fee..that was the biggest joke ever.. really????). She actually hung up on me..!!!!!
