There is a lot to like about this boutique hotel but the management needs to step up its game. The location on Lake La Quinta is picturesque and the basic layout of the hotel is very appealing. We were staying in Room 108, which is on the first floor just a few doors down from the entrance way. The room and bathroom were a good size; it featured both a patio facing the lake and a fireplace -- neither of which we used as, with outdoor temperatures hovering around 110 we had no interest in sitting outside much less making a fire. Also, blessedly, the AC in our room functioned just fine. AC malfunction is evidently a real issue with this property. Aside from the other TA reviewers who mentioned it, the AC in the lobby and restaurant were not working during our 3 day visit. We'd not planned to eat in the restaurant, so we did not care but it's notable that AC problems appear to be a chronic issue. Other less satisfactory aspects of our visit included: (a) The lock on the French doors leading out to our patio was broken. Any one determined to intrude into the room could have forced the doors. (b) The weakest WiFi signal that I have encountered in years in any hotel on any of the 4 continents where I have visited. The signal regularly just cut out. Even when you had WiFi, it took forever -- and this was just for checking email or reading the news, not video streaming, which we did not try. (c) Even in this pandemic era of reduced housekeeping, the housekeeping at The Chateau was not acceptable. The room has bare wood plank flooring that must not have been swept or washed in weeks; I'd walk barefoot from the bathroom after a shower into the bedroom and my feet were instantly dirty. There was a large volume of accumulated dust on the blades of the overhead ceiling fan; again, more than would have accumulated in our 3-day visit. The handle on our toilet was loose to the point of almost falling off; surely if the maid had cleaned the bathroom between when the last guests had checked out & we arrived, this problem would have been identified and fixed before we checked in. Happily, once we did report the problem, it was rectified within a few hours. (d) More evidence of lax attention by housekeeping related to the Keurig machine in our room. It's nice that they included it but clearly housekeeping had not paid any attention to making sure that the necessary supplies were stocked. Of the 5 capsules in our room, there was 1 regular coffee (i.e., with caffiene), 2 decafs, and 2 for tea. There were no coffee cups and, although there was sweetener and containers of cream, there were no stirrers. (d) Similarly, there were no glasses or plastic cups stocked in the room. This is basic stuff for hospitality before a new guest checks in. We got a very good rate for this room -- not surprising since July is definitely off-season for a visit to La Quinta. But, regardless, these flaws are matters of basic housekeeping that should apply regardless of the rate. Despite these issues, I am giving the hotel a 3-star rating based on the size of the room & the setting.

Booked my stay here through Booking.com for two nights. There is not much signage pinpointing the location of the property. Check in went very well; it was late and with a little assistance from the on duty manager, the front desk person got it done. Our first room, 104, and the first of two rooms we would eventually stay in, was sized very well. Room had a king bed but, the mattress was worn; it had two dips on each side and a hump in the middle. The room had a patio that was lake shore and has a nice view of Lake La Quinta. There was a wall mounted television, a red colored chandelier that hung from ceiling above the TV, a small frig, a K-cup coffee machine with several K-cups provided, and a nice sized well equipped bathroom. The demise of our stay in this room would be the faulty A/C unit. Temperatures at the location were well above one hundred during the day and the eighties at night. I noticed that it seemed the A/C unit may not be operating at it's full potential after being in the room for a couple of hours. I made the front desk aware of this and was told the unit may be frozen over and she talked me through a reset procedure that, she said, would hopefully solve the problem. After about thirty minutes of waiting to see if the reset would work, there was no change in the A/C. The unit is mounted in the ceiling and controlled by a wall mounted thermostat. I finally realized that maybe a room change was needed. After telling the same desk person that the unit was not cooling, she suggested either a removal of the resort fee from my bill or a room change. I asked her if I changed rooms, had the A/C in the new room been running for some time or would she be turning it on if I changed rooms? I was concerned about waiting for the A/C to cool the room down which would take some time. I was told that yes the A/C had been on for some time. I went to the front lobby and requested to see if the room she was reassigning me to was actually any cooler than the room I was in. I was told I had to wait there while she went and checked my proposed room out. Once this was done, she said I could come to the room but I could only walk into the room as far as the bathroom door which was about six feet. I did this and I knew right away that the A/C in the room had not been running long or was not cooling properly because the room was not cool. I felt that she had been dishonest with me by telling me earlier that the A/C had been on for some time. I decided at this point to just remain in the room I was initially given and receive a refund of the resort fee. The next morning, after an uncomfortable night, I requested that a maintenance person check the A/C. This was done and the person sent agreed that the A/C was not cooling properly. He performed the same reset as the night before. I then left the room and did not return for a couple of hours. The A/C was still not working correctly. I requested a room change at this time from the manager. The manager, Carla, came to my room and informed me that she had changed my room to the room next door. I went to this room and the difference in the coolness there was like night and day! I had Carla agree with me that the old room was very stuffy and I thanked her for changing my room. At all times, she was very friendly, caring, and professional. The second room, 105, was twice the size of 104, had a very comfortable bed, and was very enjoyable. As a note, both of my rooms were supplied with two bottles of sparkling drinking water and bath robes.

We had a very nice stay. The view of the lake is really pretty from the room, there are turtles and beautiful swans swimming around... The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very nice...We will stay here again soon.. Also the service was awesome!

Finally found this “hidden gem” after driving around it for 20 minutes as the signage was inconspicuous. We wished it had stayed hidden! As soon as we walked in we wished we had stayed at our favorite luxury chain resort in the middle of Pam Springs. There was a strange pretentiousness in the air as we checked in with a very rude receptionist. There has no elevator to the second floor. The hallway was very strangely configured... almost as if we were being sent off to an older wing of the hotel. The tiny little room was not at all luxurious as represented. The bed was old and very lumpy. The drapes were of disrepair - they didn’t close all the way so the balcony light shined in our eyes all night, Thank goodness our restaurant server, Alfredo, was so very personable and pleasant, he made up for this gaucherie!

Phoned ahead to make certain that our teen daughter had a rollaway bed placed in our bedroom. Was assured that it was available and that they had seen the instructions on the request when I had booked online. There was no rollaway bed when we arrived, we were told that it was first come first served! Then when we questioned it the male manager told us that they are a hotel that caters for couples and not children?! He was not interested in the fact that I had called ahead of time. It took over two hours for them to come up with a different plan, by that stage it was after 10pm and we had to make a plan for where our daughter would sleep. Thankfully she had a friend that lived 20 mins away that could accommodate her. As we were leaving to head off to her friend we saw that the manager had found twin mattress that were placed outside our door. The mattress had stains on it and we told him that since it took the manager so long to make a plan regarding our daughter we were forced to make alternative arrangements. The manager clearly showed his agitation which was interesting to note since it was his lack of honoring our request that forced us to make this decision and we are the paying guests in the hotel!!! His handling of the situation was naturally disappointing. At check in the manager informed us that our fireplace was not working and that wifi was not available and that they would wave our resort fee, which they did! Once in our hotel room, it is spacious and clean but the bedside light was not working and we tried swopping the light bulbs to no avail. Given the slow service we opted to accept that we would not have a reading light next to the bed. For dinner we went to the restaurant at the hotel. There were many people seated and only three servers available. Service was slow, from the time we ordered our glass of wine and flat bread it took almost 50 minutes to get both our wine and our food to us. What happened to getting the wine to the patron first and then the food or checking in with the seated guest to see if they are okay? We witnessed our server going to another table with our order and placing it in front of them only to be told it wasn't their order. Once we got our food, my husband had a big greasy finger mark on his wine glass. Given the long wait and not enough servers, we opted to try and wipe the greasy finger print off the wine glass! I had pieces of cork in my glass of wine and opted to fish them out and drink my glass of wine and get out of the restaurant as quickly as possible as the experience was proving to be a terrible dining experience. On Monday morning we awoke to a beautiful sight of the lake, a black swan gracing us with their beauty and a gorgeous clear morning. We thought we would grab the coffee that was available in our room but there was not bottled water for us to fill the coffee maker and we did not want to use faucet water. We had a giggle about it and decided to grab coffee and breakfast at the hotel only to be told that they do not serve breakfast on a Monday (was the first time we were hearing about this). The hotel itself is quite lovely, in a beautiful location and it has the potential to be an incredibly good hotel, but there is a lack of management and quality control. I am certain if the staff are better trained and reminded that the hospitality industry is all about service and good people skills then the hotel can only soar to greater heights.
