The Lodge at Torrey Pines is an award-winning luxury resort set atop the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Beach in La Jolla, California. Awarded the AAA Five Diamond rating for 18 consecutive years, the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, and Travel + Leisure’s Top 50 Hotels in the United States and Canada, The Lodge provides stunning views of the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean and endless opportunities for guests to enjoy San Diego’s warm climate – from outdoor dining and relaxing at the spa to hiking, golfing and more. The Lodge is modeled after the famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena – two of the finest examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture. Its post-and-beam construction features a natural color palette, graceful wing-like rooflines, shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich woodwork, and natural stone surfaces. Arrivals are greeted by doormen attired in kilted Scottish dress, while inside are 170 spacious guest rooms and suites designed for supreme comfort. The Lodge’s signature restaurant A.R. Valentien – rated Best Hotel Restaurant in the West by Sunset Magazine in 2015 – is a destination for fresh regional cuisine served in an elegant setting overlooking the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Artisan Table Dinners highlighting farm-to-table fare in a communal setting are offered weekly, while Executive Chef Jackson headlines The Lodge’s annual Celebrate the Craft event, one of Southern California’s premier showcases for regionally grown ingredients and innovative cooking and winemaking. For a more casual vibe, The Grill at The Lodge offers a full menu of favorites whether dining indoors or on the patio, while its bar is an ideal gathering place after a day on the golf course. The Spa at Torrey Pines features signature treatments themed around the beauty and purity of the Pacific coastline. This 9,500 square foot space uses botanical and marine-based extracts from European product lines Phytomer, SkinCeuticals, Farmhouse Fresh and NV Organics to replenish and restore the body and mind. Additional features of The Lodge include a croquet lawn, heated outdoor pool and cabanas, whirlpool, outdoor terrace with chaise lounges, hiking at the adjacent Torrey Pines State Reserve, a fitness center and the Scripps Library, a public space featuring a pool table, board games and more. Adjacent to The Lodge, the Torrey Pines Golf Course is an iconic 36-hole course that hosts the PGA Tour’s annual Farmers Insurance Open. Whether on the North Course or South Course, our guests have the opportunity to play where the pros play with the stunning La Jolla coastline as a backdrop. Nearby attractions include downtown La Jolla and Del Mar, Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the La Jolla Playhouse performing arts center and the Museum of Contemporary Art. During spring and summer, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club entices visitors with the thrill of live racing, while a popular year-round choice is the Torrey Pines State Reserve, a magnificent 2,000 acres of protected rare Torrey Pine trees featuring pristine beaches and eight miles of trails; The Lodge offers complimentary guided hikes throughout the preserve daily. The Lodge is located just 15 miles north of the San Diego International Airport and downtown San Diego.

Chose this hotel because it was closed to family but was thrilled with the experience. Service was impeccable. Staff went over and above. Food was very good. Pool was huge. Our kids loved it. We enjoyed the view from the hot tub. My brother and kids just moved to the area and the Lodge was so welcoming to them even though they weren’t guests at the hotel. We will stay here every time we visit!

Hotel's Favorite
It was with great pleasure that we were able to once again spend a couple of nights at this magnificent hotel to celebrate my spouse's birthday. We adore the architecture, beautiful rooms and wonderful views. What makes this hotel standout, however, is the extraordinary staff. Everyone makes each guest feel like they are the most important guest they serve. The first staff member one encounters is Bryan (or is it Brian) at the Port Cochere. He is a welcoming face with a gracious manner. At the front desk we were helped by Nicole. She made sure we had the loveliest room and was so helpful. She's very professional and kind. Each morning we called room service to have our breakfast brought to our balcony. Sarah, in Room Service, who took our order could not have been more friendly and warm. By morning #2, I felt like I was calling an old friend. When we checked out, again with the wonderful Nicole, we were helped with bags and car by Andreas. He was delightful. Each and every staff member we encountered treated us extraordinarily kind. Only issue was in the lobby bar. We had a cocktail late afternoon while trying to enjoy the view. The music was a fusion type jazz which was not pleasant. The waiter was not attentive as he was busy talking to the bartender. We can't wait to stay at The Lodge again!

This review is about our Reservation Agent Renee Stauffer, who was outstanding. She made our reservations, added amenities, answered all our questions all the while dealing with computer system problems and the phone line going dead. She was cheerful, friendly and professional. All around a delight to work with.

I am a chill and relaxed person and I resonated with this place. There is this wonderful relaxed atmosphere, that I much enjoyed. The room was spacious, the bed super comfy and I loved the fireplace. Actually I haven’t slept so good in years! Thanks so much for that, by the way 😃👍. Overall a great place, super amenities and a great positive vibe! I can’t wait for another reason to get back to San Diego and stay with them again!

My husband and I just returned from a 5 night stay at The Lodge. I booked this trip with Renee in reservations and she was outstanding and so easy to change a few things with our previous reservation. I booked a golf day for my husband on the south course-- with a cart-- not an easy thing to do as they get very busy. ( this is a public course) yet you will pay over $300 dollars to play-- with a cart being extra of course etc. Anyway, well worth it and the views alone are a reason to play. The weather was great the first 2 days-- but quickly turned cold, rainy and windy-- but that's San Diego/LaJolla. Check in was fast and easy. Our room was room number 539 with a " botanical view"( they claim).. we had a giant pine tree for our view-- If you " upgrade" to the ocean view/ golf view rooms, you are looking at about $850 per night. Now, this does not include the resort fee of $50 per day or the valet parking fee of also $50 per day-- not to mention all of the taxes etc . Our room was about $660 per night alone--- plus all the extra fees I mentioned. Our total bill at checkout for one golf game, one massage, a few meals and a few drinks including the room for 5 days was over $5,500 -- just be aware -- it is very , very expensive . Our room was very clean and cozy. It is quite dark, as some of the other reviews state. Housekeeping was amazing. They took care of everything so nicely in the room and their turn down service is awesome! We did notice a funny thing in our hallway--- many of the curtains have huge rips in them. They definitely have seen better days-- quite an oversite for a room that costs $660 per night-- you would think the hallways would be maintained much better or attention to detail would be noted. The spa was nice. I had a massage and it was wonderful. The Grill restaurant was nothing great. The reviews rave about it but, it's expensive for what you get and a very limited menu. Service was not very good nor was the hostess very polite. Same with AR Valentine for breakfast on their little porch. We did not have dinner there. The pool is large but, not very warm. There were workmen working out there all week so it was really noisy with their equipment etc. You will also hear the training of the fighter jets that fly over the the property and it is extremely loud! The valet guys are super and very efficient. Gift shop ladies are eager to please as well. As I stated we stayed 5 nights-- I would recommend a shorter stay and then travel into San Diego for more places to go and eat etc. We did stop in at LaJolla Cove to view some seal watching and to eat. We, along with about 56,945 other folks-- sooooo over crowed -- parking is a nightmare so be advised on when you go. The Lodge is a perfect place to play a round or two of golf , spend a night or two and recharge. It was a nice stay with amazing golf.
