The Lodge at Torrey Pines is an award-winning luxury resort set atop the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Beach in La Jolla, California. Awarded the AAA Five Diamond rating for 18 consecutive years, the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, and Travel + Leisure’s Top 50 Hotels in the United States and Canada, The Lodge provides stunning views of the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean and endless opportunities for guests to enjoy San Diego’s warm climate – from outdoor dining and relaxing at the spa to hiking, golfing and more. The Lodge is modeled after the famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena – two of the finest examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture. Its post-and-beam construction features a natural color palette, graceful wing-like rooflines, shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich woodwork, and natural stone surfaces. Arrivals are greeted by doormen attired in kilted Scottish dress, while inside are 170 spacious guest rooms and suites designed for supreme comfort. The Lodge’s signature restaurant A.R. Valentien – rated Best Hotel Restaurant in the West by Sunset Magazine in 2015 – is a destination for fresh regional cuisine served in an elegant setting overlooking the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Artisan Table Dinners highlighting farm-to-table fare in a communal setting are offered weekly, while Executive Chef Jackson headlines The Lodge’s annual Celebrate the Craft event, one of Southern California’s premier showcases for regionally grown ingredients and innovative cooking and winemaking. For a more casual vibe, The Grill at The Lodge offers a full menu of favorites whether dining indoors or on the patio, while its bar is an ideal gathering place after a day on the golf course. The Spa at Torrey Pines features signature treatments themed around the beauty and purity of the Pacific coastline. This 9,500 square foot space uses botanical and marine-based extracts from European product lines Phytomer, SkinCeuticals, Farmhouse Fresh and NV Organics to replenish and restore the body and mind. Additional features of The Lodge include a croquet lawn, heated outdoor pool and cabanas, whirlpool, outdoor terrace with chaise lounges, hiking at the adjacent Torrey Pines State Reserve, a fitness center and the Scripps Library, a public space featuring a pool table, board games and more. Adjacent to The Lodge, the Torrey Pines Golf Course is an iconic 36-hole course that hosts the PGA Tour’s annual Farmers Insurance Open. Whether on the North Course or South Course, our guests have the opportunity to play where the pros play with the stunning La Jolla coastline as a backdrop. Nearby attractions include downtown La Jolla and Del Mar, Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the La Jolla Playhouse performing arts center and the Museum of Contemporary Art. During spring and summer, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club entices visitors with the thrill of live racing, while a popular year-round choice is the Torrey Pines State Reserve, a magnificent 2,000 acres of protected rare Torrey Pine trees featuring pristine beaches and eight miles of trails; The Lodge offers complimentary guided hikes throughout the preserve daily. The Lodge is located just 15 miles north of the San Diego International Airport and downtown San Diego.

We recently stayed at The Lodge at Torrey Pines for four nights and there is truly nowhere in the entire United States where we would rather visit. From the moment we stepped into the lobby to our departure, it was totally perfect in every way. The setting cannot be beat with the majestic, fabulous ocean in the background, beautiful grounds everywhere, without question the very best service of any resort of hotel we have ever experienced. Every single employee is cheerful, helpful and totally professional in every way. There is NOT better service in any hotel anywhere. The rooms are so cozy and comfortable, clean, clean as can be and so incredibly relaxing. We were in two Palisades rooms, which cannot be beat with the ocean view, wonderful balcony and spaciousness. We have also stayed in the other rooms, both Signature and Reserve and love them as well. They offer a lovely setting and total privacy on the great balconies. Bathrooms are large and beautiful. Don't forget to be sure to make a reservation to sit on the patio overlooking the golf course at The Grill. I joke with everyone there that the eggs benedict are the BEST in the entire US! But, they are!! The Belgian waffles are fantastic also, along with fresh squeezed orange juice, but the eggs benedict are the standout. Everything on the menu is great and for lunch, you cannot beat the hamburger. The best in town! Service in The Grill is as perfect as can be. Kudos to Ivy, Stephanie, Eduardo all are so professional and give you wonderful, wonderful service. The best! Valet is great as well and took our golf clubs for us to the area where we were to tee of to play the Torrey Pines course. A very nice service. And of course, the fabulous golf courses! We have continued to come to The Lodge for many, many years and plan to come again in August for a very extended stay. Just our favorites destination anywhere. Mr. Bill Gross, the general manager, does such a spectacular job being sure this resort is top notch in every single way and it shows. We are most appreciative to him for his excellent service. Thank you so much for giving us this gem.

Hotel's Favorite
We enjoyed 3 nights at The Lodge at Torrey Pines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Other than wearing masks and seeing the staff clean more frequently around the hotel, everything was very smooth. We ate and drank poolside and also at the Grill. Mariah at the front desk was quite helpful in locating the best golf and oceanfront room for our stay. All staff were warm, welcoming and very helpful. Ricardo and Mary Jane at the pool were excellent! We will stay again and again!

My husband and I spent the night at The Lodge at Torrey Pines as our first getaway after the pandemic. The grounds are beautiful the service is 5 star. Our room overlooked the golf course and ocean. As we entered we found the room quite dark and furniture quite old. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom bright. However they had one ply toilet paper and only one roll in the room. Due to the pandemic they are using plastic glasses and give you only two. No ice in the room or in the hallways. You need to call for additional glasses and ice. the lightbulbs in the lights were quite light and gave out little light. For a hotel that charges $30 a night to park $13 fee for room service and fees that add up an additional $100 a night for your room you would think the little things would be better.

The lodge sweeps you off your feet, from the time you arrive and venture through the elegant stained glass doors to the aroma of the fireplace and stunning views of the legendary golf course perched above the pacific ocean and La Jolla cove. You know you are in for a special experience and the Lodge at Torrey Pines does not disappoint Our room had a garden view, which was peaceful and tranquil. Every detail harkens back to the American Craft design and illuminates the feeling you are in a Historic lodge, not a hotel!. The room was generous in size for our family of four. The pool is quiet and and serene where the hours vanish as you enjoy the views. Staff regularly offers drinks and food if you wish to indulge. DON'T miss lounging in the Hot-tub with its views of the course and ocean.... any cares or worries evaporate and disappear like the morning fog that creeps onto the course in the early morning hours. We ate at the grill three times and enjoyed our choices each meal. Our waiter offered excellent suggestions and helped us chose a 'warmer" table, to assure as the sun dipped into the ocean that our family would remain comfortable. There are many seats with fire pits and even an outdoor fireplace. Even if you are not staying here, after golfing you must stop by the grill and linger.... for the view and the cuisine... There is a spirit that seems evident in every staff member that adds to the experience at Torrey Pines Lodge. Everyone greets you with a smile and an offer to help. Each interaction with the lodge evokes historic memories from the pictures tot the views to the rocking chairs that invite you to pause and linger. Somehow the lodge and its staff weave their magic to enhance the views and the spirit of Torrey Pines. We played golf three times. Tip: As a single, it is VERY likely you can get on either course by checking the SD Golf app, or speaking to the folks in the golf shop.... be flexible and if you can, walk the course to get the feel and nature of this historic course. The spa was closed when we were there but the fitness center was open by reservation. Torrey Pines lodge is a special place, made more so by the staff.... visit if you are in San Diego, golf if you can and stay for a few nights to step back into elegance and charm of this coastal pacific lodge.
