Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa offers a lively atmosphere often highlighted by live music and festive decor, although a few guests have noted noise disturbances and lackluster decorations. The hotel's prime location near local attractions, coupled with its extensive amenities, including beautiful gardens and pet-friendly options, is frequently commended.
While rooms are generally celebrated for their comfort and style, some visitors mention inconsistent housekeeping. Despite the professional and attentive service, the value is questioned by guests who point to high costs and hidden fees.

Detailed Reviews
Love this Hotel- we have stayed here several times through the years. It has recently experienced a remodel and it is much improved even though it was nice beforehand so thought this time we should share a review on our recent stay.
The rooms have been remodeled to really embrace the heritage of the property and it all ties together nicely with the unique art and decor. The lobby has a completely new layout with a new large bar area, several cozy seating options, a central fireplace and live music for the happy hour. Additionally there are several outside seating arrangements and fire pits. A large pool and hot tub with restaurant / bar service. Many dining options and a cute trading post for breakfast sandwiches and coffee / tea and a full service spa - all of which we took advantage of and enjoyed.
The rooms are nice, stayed in a room with a patio - property was quiet and private felt like a luxury resort without the outrageous price tag to go along with it. They do a turndown service which offers that extra special level of service (I feel like these days it’s difficult to find a hotel where housekeeping comes once a day and at this place you get them attending to their guests twice a day)Wow!
Only drawback - which really isn’t a bad thing - but when staying at a property that has expansive grounds - you need to drive to get to downtown La Jolla, really cannot walk there - but again that is also good in a way because at Estancia you are in a secluded area and it feels safe and private.
When visiting at hotels we really like when the staff is personable - we had fun talking with many of the staff and they were great you can tell they enjoy their work and meeting new people. We will definitely be back - Looking forward to returning soon!

Stayed here as a family for 3 nights in celebration of our 15th wedding anniversary. The room was quiet and clean, and the staff made sure we had the best time with a friendly service that included a small upgrade for a room with a balcony and a complimentary bottle of champagne to greet us. The whole hotel is beautiful and well kept with newly renovated spaces - all very well done. The hotel is in a convenient location close to many beautiful sites. We all genuinely had a beautiful time here.
Now, I gotta comment on how out of hand the fees are. You pay for your accommodations, then another “occupancy fee” that turned out to be $40 more per night. In other words, you pay for the room, then a little more to occupy the room. It’s almost funny. Then in addition to that, you pay a resort fee that is another $40. Then it gets better: when you order a drink at the bar, you pay a surcharge fee on top of the tip (for those out of Cali, that’s already about 20%). We had room service which included a surcharge fee, a delivery fee, plus tip. Oh, add another $45 per night for parking. When you sum it all up, you pay about 50% more than you knew you would. I mean, I never been smacked down with so many hidden fees like here. It feels dishonest. That’s my hunch.

This is our second time staying at Estancia and every time we leave we find ourselves saying that we can’t wait to be back. Everything about this hotel is just perfect. Customer service, staff, location, amenities, rooms, pool and poolside service is always top notch.
The moment you pull into the valet you automatically feel relaxed. The hotel lobby is beautifully decorated and the hotel is not too big, so it feels like you’re right at home. Rooms are easy to get to and there are beautiful grounds to see along the way with beautiful gardens and even a wishing tree, a little oasis if you will.
The pool is always mellow and offers great music. The poolside staff are very attentive to everyone. Chad the bartender is awesome and makes great local recommendations for dining and more. I always like a bartenders choice of cocktails and Chad never disappointed. He also went into great detail about the ingredients in his speciality cocktail and everything was “freshly made that day from whatever fresh produce was in the Chefs refrigerator.”
All in all, it was another amazing stay and we can’t wait to come back.

This hotel has the potential to be a perfect place for a stay in La Jolla. It is about 20 minutes from the SD airport, close to the beach. The hotel itself is just lovely, lovely garden and architecture, and very quiet. The service, particularly the housekeeping service was really spotty and incompetent. Our room wasn’t ready till 6 pm. Upon entry to the room, it was clear that someone had used the bed. The bathrobes were strung over the sofas. My husband took photos of the room and went back to the reception. The director gave us free dinner and had the room “cleaned” again for the night.
The next day, upon return to the hotel, we found that the complementary toilet goodies were not only not replenished but the what was left in the original bag was gone, along with the bag. The coffee service was cleaned but not replenished.
We tried to have a lunch at the pool, waited over 45 minutes with no food or explanation for no food, and gave up as we would be late for an event in the after noon.
The food was good, dinner and breakfast, and the snacks at the bar were all good. The service at the bar and restaurant were really good also.
I wish they would improve their housekeeping

Luis, the bartender, was exceptional—his cocktail skills and passion for mixology truly enhanced the experience. Although I didn’t catch the name of the elderly maid who spoke only Spanish, she was incredibly friendly and kept my room spotless. I wish I had her name to acknowledge her excellent service. I also suggest a designated adult-only period after 9 PM for the hot tub.

i wanted to like this hotel. The location is good, the entry area is nice, the little coffee shop/ boutique is well-stocked. Some of the staff were diligent and sincere.
BUT, the hotel just doesn't quite get it right - especially when it comes to rooms and noise. They must have used cheap door construction because noise comes in from the hallways (on wedding weekends people seem to be really noisy, and they were having 2 weddings while i was there) and the noise is even worse through the connecting room doors, even when closed. I tried putting pillows and towels around door cracks, but that didn't mitigate the noise. i could tell you all about my neighbors' conversations, while i wanted to be sleeping.
Also - housekeeping was erratic. Turndown service only sporadically - every other night - could hear them go to some rooms and not others, bizarre.
The yoga teacher showed up 30mins late - only after one of the waiting guests texted the front desk.
While the resort grounds generally seem to try to send a relaxing vibe, the pool area is a total mismatch - constant music, and cabanas with TVs - more of a wanna-be Vegas vibe.
Adequate gym.
Cute botanical garden, but the signs aren't related to the items actually growing there.
So close to the beach, but no beach views sadly, although they do offer a trail map showing how to get to famous Blacks Beach nearby.
The Greenfinch restaurant was nice but again loud.
No pencils or notepads in the rooms.
Note selfpark charges: $45/night and valet $50.

The layout of the property is quite confusing. Navigating through various doors to reach your room can easily lead to getting lost in this hotel. The check-in process is chaotic.
This hotel is significantly overpriced. The interior decor is among the least appealing we’ve encountered; the colors are dull, and there’s an oversized hanging lamp above a wobbly table in the corner—it's quite awkward. Sitting there is uncomfortable, and the couch isn’t any better, forcing you to sit on the bed to have a proper conversation with visitors.
We’ve stayed in much nicer places that cost less. For example, other close by hotels offers a more comfortable experience at half the price. It’s not that we’re unwilling to pay more for quality; we just expect a better experience than what this hotel provides.
If you're looking to spend money without getting value, this might be the place for you. Everything here is overpriced, and you can’t even get a complimentary cup of coffee while waiting in the lobby.

The hotel is very nicely appointed and the rooms are modern and well laid out. Our check-in process was disappointing though as we were given a room of a lower rate class than the one we booked without being informed of that fact (we checked in late at night and the room we booked was supposed to be garden view, instead we got one facing the parking lot). Other small requests were either not carried out (requested a knife to be sent up to the room, told no problem, never showed) or flatly denied (1/2 hour later checkout, understandable but hotel wasn't full and seemed unreasonable to flatly deny).

I stayed here for 4 nights for a business trip. My room was nice and spacious. Wi-Fi worked well. The gym was nice but small. When I went to the gym in the morning (5am) it was crowded. The hotel provides refillable water bottles from a fountain. I had no problems during my stay.
